Tonton - A Hidden Gem for Japanese Comfort FoodI'm obsessed with Katsu. Tonton is a must-visit for Japanese comfort food lovers! Whether you're in the mood for rich ramen, crispy katsu curry, or flavorful gyoza, this spot delivers high-quality dishes with bold flavors and perfect execution. Ramen - This was the standout dish! The broth was deep, rich, and spicy, packed with umami and topped with tender minced pork, crisp green onions, crunchy wood ear mushrooms, and a perfectly cooked egg. The noodles had a great chew, making every bite satisfying. Pan-Fried Gyoza - These dumplings were crispy on the outside and juicy inside, served with a savory dipping sauce. They were perfectly cooked and full of flavor--definitely a must-order! Katsu Curry - The pork katsu was incredibly crispy, paired with a thick, flavorful curry sauce and fluffy rice. The addition of pickled radish gave a nice contrast to the richness of the dish. It's one of the best katsu curries I've had in the city! The portions were generous, the service was warm and welcoming, and the casual atmosphere made it a great place for a cozy meal. If you're a fan of Japanese comfort food, Tonton should be on your list! Must-try: ramen & katsu curry Perfect for: Ramen lovers, comfort food cravings, and casual diningI'll definitely be back for another bowl of ramen and more of those crispy gyoza!

Tonton is a cozy spot with limited seating, and everything comes out steaming hot, which is a big plus. However, service was slow--even as the first customers in, we watched someone who arrived 10 minutes after us receive and finish their meal before ours even came out.The food itself is just decent--nothing special, but it'll get you through the day. The spam musubi was disappointing, lacking the proper glaze and falling apart instantly when unwrapped. The karaage chicken was one of the better items, lightly battered with a nice hint of ginger. The curry, which I was most looking forward to, tasted like a basic S&B curry paste mix over rice. The pork katsu was crispy on the outside but dry on the inside. The house ramen with tonkotsu broth was probably the highlight--the broth was well-seasoned without being too rich, the noodles were bouncy, and the toppings were generous.Parking in the area is a hassle, with most meter spots restricted until after 6 or 8 PM, so garage parking is the best bet.Overall, it's a decent option if you're in the area and need a meal, but nothing worth going out of your way for.

Ton ton is comfort food. While the wait can get quite long especially on Friday nights, the food is definitely worth it. My go to is the katsu curry with chicken katsu. The katsu is perfectly breaded and crispy while still being moist and juicy inside and the curry it's paired with has tons of depth and just the right amount of spice! I also really enjoy their karage appetizer :) Definitely check out Ton Ton is you are around Union Square!

I enjoyed the house ramen. I was the first customer and got my ramen first and finished my food before all the other patrons got their food. Either I ate fast or the cook was slow. Ramen was perfect for me. It had a lot of green onions woodear, bean sprouts, 3 slices of pork, and one perfect soy sauce slightly undo yok, and ramen. I nearly drank all the brothl Normally I don't drink it all. It's a tiny place with 15 to 20 seats.

For the price in sf it's good! The ramen was made to order. They take card and they also had beer and a lot of choices :) there's a bathroom. A lot of ramen and rice places to choose from and under $20.00. The waitress was also nice

Treated my mom out for dinner here. We got the chicken karaage curry over rice and a seafood noodle soup. The portions are very generous. The chicken karaage was crispy and juicy, and the curry was nicely balanced by the sprig of pickled radish on the side.We chose mild for the seafood soup and it was a nice kick (definitely more on the spicy side but it enhanced the broth well). The ladies serving us were super sweet and the food came out quickly. Very home-y feel to the place which we liked.

Was here on a weekday and it was fairly empty. We got Japanese curry. The curry didn't taste fresh/tasted a bit artificial. Maybe they are known for their ramen, and we just didn't order the right thing. But at the time, we were hungry and this was the closest to us. It took us a while to get seated even though there were open seats. The food took a while to come out so we had thought it is being made fresh, but something about it was off. Again, didn't get to try the ramen so it may be good? We were sitting and enjoying each other's company, but felt somewhat rushed to leave once we paid. People were coming in to get seated, however there was still many seats left. Overall just an odd experience and won't be revisiting this place, but hope it is a spot for others!
