I've been coming here for the last 20 years since I was little. Solid place with great quality sushi and comfort foods like zosui (seafood rice porridge), steamed egg, and teapot soups. Always solid, servers are attentive and the ambiance is great for casual or special occasions. They have the tatami rooms for bigger parties that you can reserve.

My family used to go to Tomokazu pretty frequently during my upbringing and I feel like this Japanese restaurant has basically been open my entire life. I recently got to try it again during a work lunch break and the restaurant definitely looks the exact same. Which feels a bit outdated, but still comfortable enough. The customer service isn't too friendly, but what mattered the most was if the food makes up for it.Their lunch bento boxes are what I always used to get. In my recent visit I ordered the Ichiban B with Tempura and Chicken Teriyaki ($17.75). Pretty simple choice and my dad ordered the Ichiban C which is the largest portion. The bento boxes also come with a miso soup which is a pretty large bowl of soup, but sadly was a bit too salty for my taste. The bento box itself was good though. They give a huge bowl of rice on the side. The tempura was crispy and they didn't overdo it with the batter. The shrimp, cucumber, sweet potato, broccoli, etc. were all really flavorful. I was also impressed by the large portion of the chicken teriyaki. The skin left a lot of flavor and it had a slight crisp too. The chicken was moist and tender which is great considering that I have had plenty chicken teriyaki that were extremely dry. The side salad was also surprisingly good and the dressing they use it tasty. Also respect the variety of veggies used in it.Honestly the food is pretty solid, but I did only choose the safe option by choosing cooked food and my dad didn't like his sashimi or Hamachi Shioyaki at all. The service left a lot of be desired and they don't really speak to you much which some customers might not care that much about. The inside of the restaurant is definitely old and not the cleanest in the world. Can't deny that they have some good teriyaki, tempura, and California rolls though.

Always a peaceful time with good food! Came her with my sister for a nice catch up! Service is always so kind here and quick to seat us and get us settled with water and a tea pot. There are lots of spaces for seating, traditional tables where you take off your shoes to sit, private rooms for big parties or reservations, and even bar space in front of the sushi chefs. By the bar, they also have their specials that change every few times we have come, so it must be what's freshest each day! There is a waiting area too (even though there usually isn't too long of a wait since they have lots of seating- I don't think my family has ever waited longer than 30 minutes on their busiest days) with some seating and tanks where you can see some HUGE lobsters! The waitresses are always so sweet when they come to take our order and fill our waters regularly. The salmon and oysters were super fresh that was evident in their texture and taste. They didn't have a fishy, ocean taste and the oysters were cleaned well! The lamb chops had great flavor and were tender enough that we just bit through them. We also ordered the four seasons roll and the summer roll (not pictured) that have great flavor and are consistent favorites of ours! And my favorite part: complimentary ice cream! I LOVE that they have Asian flavors, so I had the black sesame and my sister got green tea. I know they also have jasmine flavor, another I order from time to time. Public parking is also available (but is free if after 6pm, Sundays or holidays) as there is a structure on the same block and is a bit off from the business of Burlingame Ave. Love this place!

Food is great but you get what you pay for so things are pricey. You could easily drop three bills (including tip) on a two person meal if you like the specials. Very disappointed that they stopped offering whole Unis for dinner though. That was the whole reason for me going last time as finding a place that sells whole Uni is tough

I'm done gate keeping my favorite sushi spot in Burlingame. I have no idea why this place was such low ratings because i've only had great experiences here. It has EVERY item you could possibly think of--from udon, to seafood, chicken wings, and best of all FREE DESSERT Ice Cream!!! All within reasonable prices. Theres always seating on the weekend too so reservation isn't even needed.

I just had the most incredible dining experience at Tomokazu Japanese Cuisine in Burlingame! This hidden gem blew me away with its amazing selection of sushi and seafood. First of all, the customer service is above par. Our family felt so welcomed, and loved sitting in an intimate semi-private room that we packed with hungry people!! The California rolls are a beautiful blend of fresh crab, creamy avocado, and perfectly seasoned rice--every bite is bursting with flavor. And the raw oysters? They're an absolute treat, with a hint of lemon and a refreshing brininess that takes you straight to the ocean. Now, let's talk about the hamachi kama. The grilled yellowtail collar is a dish worth raving about--the tender, succulent meat, and crispy exterior were a sensory delight. And don't even get me started on the uni--it's fresh, buttery, and simply melts in your mouth, leaving an unforgettable taste that lingers.Tomokazu Japanese Cuisine is a must-visit for any sushi and seafood lover. The quality of their ingredients, the skill of their chefs, and the inviting atmosphere make it a dining experience to remember. Trust me; you won't want to miss their California rolls, raw oysters, hamachi Kama, and uni - it's an exceptional meal that you'll love.

Authentic Japanese dishes served in an unassuming restaurant on the edge of the downtown Burlingame scene. My nephew typically decides where the family eats and he wanted sushi. Too bad they use real crab in their California rolls - the kid wouldn't eat it! Tamago sushi saved the day, though. I had the grilled fish, which was honestly a bit fishy for my taste (not the just right amount of fishy taste..it was more teetering on the edge of not so fresh and needs more lemon to cover it up.) Luckily I had the chawan-mushi and dobin-mushi as well as the miso soup and salad that came with my entree. Nobody left lunch hungry.

This is my second time visiting this restaurant for a birthday and each time I've really enjoyed my experience! The ambiance is beautifully set with tatami seating and Japanese decor. The service is quick and the bussers keep the table always clean and rid of dirty dishes. The sushi is fresh, tasty, and affordable! I absolutely love this spot!

It was my first time sitting at the table where you remove your shoes before sitting down and although it was a cool experience, it was uncomfortable as the seats do not have padding, the tables are a tad too high and the backing is too far. We ordered:-Salmon: Great presentation and melts in your mouth like butter-Four seasons roll: I normally don't like sushi with a lot of sauce, but I make an exception with both of these rolls because they don't overwhelm me.-Phoenix roll-Nabe yaki udon: This comes in a huge bowl and they served us the first round in smaller individual bowls. I love having this in between every other bite.-Hamachi cama: Soft and we enjoyed it with the lemon.-Shrimp Tempura: crunchy! This was plenty for four people. We ate family style and everything was good including the service!

Good value for the area. It's right near the downtown with the typical Japanese food and sushi. I had the teriyaki chicken, tempura udon and gyoza appetizer with California roll. Everything was good quality and decent service.
