Have you ever had Fujian cuisine before? Now you can at Taste of Shaxian in San Mateo! All of the dishes were very simple, but surprised us with a lot of flavor! Whether you're a fan of dumplings or not, this place has good ones and a bunch of other must-try dishes all priced very reasonably. For 2 people, we ordered just enough to be comfortably full. * Shaxian Wonton Soup* Soup Dumplings Combo* Spicy Cold Noodles (highly recommend!)* Braised Chicken (bone in) Clay Pot w/ Rice (highly recommend!)

San Mateo is blooming with Chinese restaurants lately. It's always been like that but it feels like there are even more Chinese restaurants popping up in the last year or so including Taste of Sha Xian. You order via a QR code on the table. They have a lot of food options including appetizers and main courses!I tried the hot and sour wonton soup. The flavors were really nice and strong. The soup is a bit on the salty and spicy side so I could not drink a ton of it at once but I really liked the overall flavor. It's basically like liquidy sauce. The wontons were also not bad. The meat inside was pork but I almost thought it was shrimp based on the texture for a little bit - then realized it was more like a meatball.I also tried the pan fried dumplings. The Chinese characters said something like fried 小籠包 which it didn't really taste like that to me; they tasted more like a regular 生煎包. They were a bit on the oily side but I did like how juicy the inside was and how nicely cooked the webbed crunchy skin was.Overall I liked the food and would come back again to try other items. I did find the food to be on the saltier and oilier side so I drank a lot of water but still liked how tasty the food was.Service was fine and good. The server spoke way better English than most Chinese establishments which is nice.

I'm from China so I was expecting something similar from the same brand in China. But tuned out it's quite different. They have much wider varieties here. We tried a bunch of things here. Seems like peanut sauce is all over the place. The noodles are really good. The signature soup 瓦罐汤 was good too. The oyster pancake somehow was a little undercooked tbh. The service was good. The place was very clean though. They don't have outdoor seating though. So overall it's a different Shaxian than I expected. I may still go back just to have some true Chinese flavors.

Came for dinner on a Friday night and the restaurant was pretty empty. We ordered the wonton soup, pan fried pork from a with combo of corn soup, steamed pork buns and a sha xian noodle dish. Hubby and I agree the noodles were probably the best dish of them all. Had great chewy texture and the seasoning was just right. Buns were decent but I've had better at other restaurants and the wonton soup which is supposed to be one of their signature specials was underwhelming. The wontons tasted of low quality and the soup itself was watery and bland. Our meal came out to be $50 without tip so for the price I'd rather go somewhere else but if you're looking for quick cafe style eats then this could hit the spot.

I usually come here for to go orders, plenty of seats but seems like they are never busy. The little dumplings in soup and scallion oil noodles are decent, they also don't get soggy when enjoy the to-go order at home. The portion can be small so you may have to order more items.

Love this place. My daughter and I really enjoy their wontons, noodles and sesame balls. We always get the combo that includes the wontons and sesame noodles. Always hits the spot! I've tried a variety of their dishes including spicy cucumber salad, clay pots, fish and tomato soup. Some of the clay pots could be a miss but overall portions are fair and great to share along family. Service is fast. You order via the app and dishes start showing up pretty much right after you submit the order. Dined in and had them delivered and quality remains the same.

This place is a hidden gem! Their dumplings are absolutely delicious; perfectly wrapped with flavorful fillings that taste homemade. But my personal favorite is the boiled fish fillets which's so tender and packed with just the right amount of spice! Everything tastes fresh, and the portions are generous. Definitely a go-to spot if you're craving comforting and quick.

Please make sure that the English translations are correct. The "Mala Combo Noodles Soup" isn't actually a combo soup. It's blood. It doesn't have any other meat and it's not a combination of anything. We got it to-go based on their English translation and only found out after we got home and translating it ourselves. We paid $18.62 for something we did not like. It's a bit pricey considering it's only blood and rice noodles.
