The three of us arrived tonight Sunday around 5'ish. Good thing too as people dribbled in soon after. The front dining room filled up first then the private room and the back dining room. Ordered - * both hubby & daughter went with combo A bento box. Chicken teriyaki, choice of tuna or salmon sashimi, shrimp tempura, rice and green salad. Also miso soup and scoop ice cream for dessert. Either green matcha or strawberry. * I ordered the ling cod dinner special. It's served on a sizzling hot plate with a big mound of sauté bean sprouts. Also miso soup and scoop ice cream. Our food came quickly once we placed our orders. Everyone enjoyed the food. BTW - We would like to place to go orders. But every time I call the phone rings and rings. I asked our server why no one ever answers the phone on to go orders. He said all calls are picked up. He said keep trying. I called from our table while there. Sure enough he picked up. Going forward I'll see if the call is answered.Being a neighborhood restaurant we tend to see someone we know. Tonight was no different.

The sushi here has to be one of the best in the area. So fresh and decently priced. Owned by the sweetest people. Okazu is one of my favorite sushi restaurants. If you go, you must try the volcano roll! It's a must! Next time I'll remember to take photos before devouring the food lol

I've been a loyal fan of Okazu Ya since the early '90s, back when I was still dating and life was a whirlwind of new experiences. Time has flown, but the memories of this beloved restaurant remain as fresh and vivid as the food Michael and Joanna serve. In those early days, I'd come here with boyfriends, and Michael's exquisitely decorated sushi plates were always the highlight of our dates--beautiful, artistic, and utterly delicious. Everyone was impressed, myself included. I even used to bring my aerobic instructors here after classes at the gym nearby. The food was so good they couldn't stop eating, joking later about nightmares filled with sushi and tempura. There were funny moments, too--like the time I brought a new date shortly after a breakup, and Michael, ever observant, couldn't resist asking, "Who's he?" It was hilarious and perfectly encapsulated the warm, personal atmosphere they've always cultivated. Joanna, Michael's wife, is just as lovely--a gracious presence who made everyone feel welcome.Over the years, my favorites became staples: the fresh sashimi, soft shell crab rolls, spider rolls, dragon rolls, tempura shrimp, katsu, and the unforgettable Chilean sea bass. Such perfection! One night, a friend and I got so carried away with the incredible food and sake that he ended up swinging on awnings. It was the kind of carefree joy that only a special place like Okazu Ya can inspire.Though I moved away 30 years ago when I got married, and my husband's tastes lean more toward meat and potatoes, my family still keeps the tradition alive. My parents and sisters regularly order takeout from Okazu Ya for Mother's Day, Father's Day, and birthdays. The food continues to bring us together, even if I can't enjoy it as often anymore.Okazu Ya isn't just a restaurant; it's a part of my story, a place filled with laughter, love, and countless cherished moments. I miss it dearly, but I'm so grateful for the joy it brought--and still brings--to my family and me.

The wife and I where driving around Taraval st. Seeing what was going on since all the street work. Pleased to say that it's a much smoother ride, loss of a lot of street parking. Change is inevitable. But the business is a nice place to have dinner. Was packed for a weekday. Service was fast and friendly. Food was on point. Looked like a family restaurant. But I was able to engage with conversation with the workers because they were busy. Which isn't a bad thing. We will definitely come back and try more on the menu.

Came here with my girlfriends, a group of six, and tried this place out.Upon entering there is seating available in the front with smaller tables for a group of 2-3 people per group. In the back is seating for larger groups. They post their daily specials on a blackboard near the bar.The owner/manager seated us in the back. We ordered a few appetizers, and shortly thereafter our entrees. They have vegan menu items available. We proceeded to order our entrees, and we didn't wait too long for everything to be served. Food was good, but not great. They put too much bean sprouts on some of the entrees which wasn't to my liking. All in all, it was a pleasant experience.

I've been coming to this neighborhood family run gem for over ten years now and it never disappoints. My go to is always the TEISHOKU Combo A or Sakura Combo. Both are a great value, have large portions, and come with ice cream! Sushi rolls are always fresh and a good size. A must get is the pumpkin roll and if you like cilantro get the snake roll. Service is super friendly but can be a little slow at times but it's worth it! Vibes of restaurant are casual, inviting, with an old sushi restaurant charm. Takeout orders are also packed with care and travel well to enjoy at home.

Not happy with my takeout order today. Got fried oysters. The batter tasted old and it was hard. If I didn't know better, you'd think it was reheated or refried from the day before. The rice was lukewarm and didn't taste fluffy like you'd expect. The salad was good but there's never enough dressing. Jr Yelper's chicken katsu better was the same. Hard and it's as if they didn't get the oil hot enough. It didn't taste rancid, just not like usual. Hubby was satisfied with his meal, chicken kaarage. Now I'm not sure I want to do takeout from here again.

This place is a long-time favorite of ours. We like to come here for the fish entrees, especially the Chilean sea bass. The fish comes out on sizzling platter over a bed of sauteed veggies, mainly beansprouts. For under $25, you get two pretty solid pieces of fish along with a bowl of rice. The other dishes such as the sushi and other entrees are average. Service is consistent and fast. The restaurant itself could use a remodel, fresh paint and flooring would really spruce up the place. Parking can be difficult since it is on Taraval surrounded by a residential neighborhood.

No wait on a weekend evening. They have a seating section in front and in back. We ordered the combo A bento box: teriyaki chicken, salmon sashimi and shrimp (2 pieces) and vegetable tempura. The chicken was standard and the other two were good. However, was no carrot or broccoli in the tempura. We also got the beef teriyaki and this was quite salty and cooked rare. Both meals came with rice, tea, miso soup and ice cream. The ice cream was green tea and strawberry and we got one of each.
