With the disclaimer that I'm new to the Bay Area, but not the concept of a burrito, Taqueria San Jose was a very solid start to my personal search for the best around. The staff is super friendly and I appreciate there's caldo and plates on offer, but I was there for a burrito. Inspired by the phenomenal trompo mural, I went for an al pastor California burrito. The meat was crispy, well seasoned and not too pineapple heavy. The beans and guac were creamy. And the fries were that just right combination of crispy and creamy of a once fried potato gone soft. The proportions are just right and there's no loose wrapping done here. Great bay burrito start.

Honestly just ok. With the abundance of other options on the same block, I will probably never be back; food just wasn't good enough. It's quite spacious inside with a lot of seating, and is nowhere as bustling as some of its neighbors. The food is honestly pretty expensive; $5.50 for a taco, but to be fair, they heaped the meat on. Still would have needed 3-4 tacos to be completely fully, which is a lot more expensive than other spots. The food also took quite some time to finish, around ~15-20 minutes for takeout. The food itself was also just ok. I got chorizo and chicken, and the main seasoning I tasted was just salt, no complexity at all. The meat was also quite dry. Tortillas were basic and didn't have much texture either.Overall, not worth, and wouldn't recommend.

The carne asada taco meat was burnt , and the lengua meat had like water dripping out of it made all my Tortillas soggy and rip as I was trying to eat them , never coming back here again , could see the cashier and cook laughing , don't know if they made my tacos like that on purpose but I love supporting small business and trying new taco spots in the mission , never coming back here again ! Disappointed Negative 5 stars

Was with my Nino last night , ended up here. Tacos were ok , nothing to write home about. Service was good. Tacos are really messy make sure you grab extra napkins cause the ones they have here are really small. I won't be back but I'm glad I gave it a try. The pastor wasn't very pineappley so that was something different . Salsa was good some decent heat. - FOOD GOD

I received my burrito hot & freshly cooked. The price was decent. I paid $14 for a super burrito and it did not disappoint. The person who took my order did it quick, fast, and was very professional. The restaurant has a mural painted inside on the walls verses picture(s). It's a great grab and go place which is what I needed tonight. It did not disappoint. This place is a repeat for me.

We have been living in San Francisco since 1988, 2001 and 2004 respectively for my wife, me and our 19 year old son who was born here.So needless to say, we KNOW the best California Mexican food in The CIty. Taqueria San Jose is a favorite of ours. Although we haven't been here since COVID19 global pandemic but it's that place we know it always going to be great Mission style burritos, my wife and son, love to my non-burrito entree of Camarones A la Diabla. As usual, the biggest issue with this taqueria is that it's in location since trying to find parking is very challenging. It was a Sunday afternoon, so we circled around Mission and 24th Street seeking a spot to park. As luck would have it, we found a spot after only our second circle around the block. Eureka! As we entered the Taqueria, there were only two people ahead of us, which gave us time to familiarize ourselves with the menu. We were great with a smile by our order taker, and we placed our orders. We chose a seat next to a mutal, and as we waited, I took photos for this review. I was very impressed with Taqueria San Jose bright ambiance, seating capacity (which is usually an use when in The Mission). Our entrées were brought to out table and we throughly enjoyed the presentation, taste and temperatures. If you are in San Francisco and looking for fresh, simple and authentic/causal Mexican food make sure to add Taqueria San Jose to your list!

Taqueria San Jose is touted as having the best Mexican burritos in town, so my husband and I ordered two super burritos through Grubhub.George's Experience:George opted for the chorizo (Mexican sausage) super burrito, requesting everything except salsa and cilantro, along with very little rice. He also wanted refried beans. According to him, it was the best burrito he's had in years. He has had several disappointing burritos this year, often finding cilantro in them despite his dislike for it or receiving burritos that were all meat with none of the other fillings, rendering them inedible. However, this burrito was a pleasant surprise. It was perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of each ingredient. George was thrilled with his meal, which made me happy to see.My Experience:I ordered the lengua (tongue) super burrito, requesting refried beans, but unfortunately, I received whole beans instead. The difference between refried beans and whole beans in a burrito is significant. Refried beans offer a smooth, creamy texture that melds with the other ingredients, adding a rich, cohesive flavor. Whole beans, on the other hand, have a firmer texture and a more pronounced bean flavor, which can overpower the other components and create an uneven bite. This mistake turned my burrito into an unpleasant experience. The burrito was dominated by whole beans, which I absolutely do not like in my burritos. There was very little lengua and the little they had lacked flavor--it was very bland. It was completely disappointing, especially since we could have chosen any burrito place in San Francisco and decided on Taqueria San Jose.Other Items:The chips were great--crispy and thick, just the way I like them. The salsa, however, could use a bit more heat to complement the chips better.Overall:I'm never ordering from Taqueria San Jose again. George's burrito was stellar, but mine was horrible. This inconsistency makes it difficult to know what to expect. Price:Chorizo Super Burrito $13.99Lengua Super Burrito $13.99Chips $1.50Grubhub Service Fee $2.36Driver Benefits Fee $2.00Sales tax $2.88Tip $1.00Total charge $37.72After all that has been said and done, having to pay approximately $18.11 (I subtracted the price of the chips) for a horrible burrito (mine) with very little substance isn't worth it.

When $1 chip has good portion, the super taco is really too small. I was tricked by the "super" and thought it should be bigger than the regular taco. But I was wrong. This "super" taco is a shame. You can see how big it is from my photo. I put the beer bottle in the same photo so you can compare.

I was craving menudo, and saw they had it on during the week. The flavor of the broth was really good but the tripe was really tough. I asked for no pata, and it said it on receipt but they still put it in there. I asked for extra lemon and the gave me one wedge that was super dry !
