Taqueria El Metate

This is a fantastic spot for authentic Mexican food in Belmont! The dishes are not only delicious but also reasonably priced. The complimentary chips and extensive salsa bar are a great bonus. This wasn't my first visit, and it certainly won't be my last. Worth a stop if you're in the area craving some quick, tasty Mexican food.

If you're looking for flavorful, authentic Mexican food el Metate is the place for you. This has been my go to place for burritos for some time now. I normally get a carne asada burrito with black beans, rice, sour cream, cheese, lettuce and green salsa. I promise you this is the best tasting burrito. The carne asada is season and so juicy, my favorite thing is the green salsa. It's medium spicy, but the flavor is amazing. This place gets really busy specially during lunch, I normally order over the phone. It saves me about 20 minutes.The only reason I didn't give them five stars is because one of the cashiers is not so friendly, but that has not stopped me from getting my favorite burritos

I've been coming here for years as I enjoy their wet burritos. Unfortunately I bit into a rock the size of a penny on my visit today. I'm not sure if I will be back here much now as this is a big health hazard.I hope management can inspect the way their food is being prepared to avoid this for future customers.

Good selection and just good Mexican food set in colorful surroundings & chairs. Proved to be much better than the picture of the outside.

Tried the lengua (ox tongue) plate too. Meat is so tender! My precious review still stands!

Went here for lunch with some coworkers and got a super carne asada burrito. The food came out pretty quick after ordering. The burrito was huge and packed with a lot of food. The flavor was good as well. They offer complimentary chips and have an extensive salsa bar. Love that they have grilled Serranos and other sides. Their salsas are great with the chips and the burrito. There's a good amount of seats in the restaurant for dine in but parking can be tough. Parking is limited and the spots are usually taken.

Stopped by this place to grab some dinner, and their "wet style" super burrito sounded like just the thing. Me and my girlfriend both got one with different meat options to split.The service was not particularly friendly, but that may not be the case if you happen to speak fluent Spanish. So, your mileage may vary there.That said, we were absolutely not prepared for how super the "super burrito" actually was haha. You can see in the pictures I took, the burritos were enormous. They were really good, though!Just prepare yourself for one of the largest burritos you've ever seen in your life if you order the super burrito.

El Metate is one of those last bastions for the neighborhood blue collar workers, and these days, add in a good layer of tech laborers. In days past, someone wearing a puffer jacket or gray hoodie might be assumed to be from one of the metal works or plumbing supply warehouses in the surrounding area, but that person could also have walked over from one of the many bioscience/tech startups. And that worries me a bit about this gem of a place. I hope higher salaries doesn't always equate to higher menu prices. The current menu prices are easily the most reasonable along the peninsula and the food is really high quality. On any given lunch day, the line of customers snake between the bar counter and the salsa bar. The place is really popular and located immediately off the Harbor Blvd. exit (slow down or you'll miss it). Indoor and outdoor seating available. The usual go-to is the carnitas - simply tasty and generous in volume. On a taco or burrito, it will the best decision of your day. The service is quick and the ladies at the cashier are cheerful and welcoming. During the evenings, the bar is usually seated with clocked-out laborers and enjoying a cerveza or two.

The place was crowded and appeared blue collar. I got the three tacos and they were tasty, filling and not greasy. The side of beans was good too. Service was fast and no fuss, you seat your self. Overall a good fast lunch spot

Super good. Everything you like about a taqueria and fast. Call for pickup, they don't mess around with ubereats and the like. Been in NYC for a decade and was back in CA up in Redwood City last week craving some good Mexican food and my sister in law said this was her spot and boy, what a reminder that we just don't get anything like CA Mexican food out East... everything is just a little better and at a fraction of the cost. Good stuff!
