Glad that Toishan clay pot places like this still exist in the Richmond! The yellow eel clay pot here is the way to go, and the rice soaks up everything as the bottom grains crisp up. Just enough soy sauce to heighten the flavors. The free soup of the day was a classic lotus root and pork bone, perfect for a rainy day.The mushroom and chicken steamed (in lotus leaf) rice was a hefty packet of deliciousness too, a lighter flavor, bright with carrot slivers.Carb mountain, and each clay pot or steamed lotus rice feeds two. We got a vegetable side to balance us out, ask for what's fresh and then pick a way to cook it (we got potato greens wok-flashed with garlic).Neighbors and a construction duo popped in and out picking up eel rices, and there was plenty of seating. Curious to see this place at capacity.Service was speedy, one waitress seemed to do it all.

Looking for a Chinese restaurant in this part of town, I found this one. It was clean (especially the restrooms) and nearly deserted even after 6 when I was done. The menu included some standard westernized dishes - sweet and sour, salt and pepper, Mongolian beef - but I wanted something different and characteristic. Setting aside the clay pots and fried rice, I found among the entrees a peanut fish. That turned out to be unusual and not quite what I'd expected. Tiny fish, possibly anchovies (certainly aromatic enough), in breading thick enough that there was more breading than fish, lightly coated in a slightly spicy sauce, with some peanuts and a few veggies, mostly peppers, mixed in.I'm not sure what I think of this, but it was interesting to try once.

Went here for a clay pot rice meal. This place is awesome as it rivals a Chinatown restaurant which have disappointed me a couple times when they said the clay pot portion of their menu was not offered. This place will be my go to restaurant when I have a clay pot rice dish craving. This yelp find was spot on. The other dishes with salt and pepper fish and tofu was lacking of the said flavoring so that was what accounted for the restaurant losing a star. If you go here for the clay pot rice, you cannot go wrong. Highly recommend this place.

===TL;DR=== - Five spice spare ribs steamed rice - Sauted pork belly with bell peppers - Egg white fried rice with XO sauce ===TMI===I was in the neighborhood so thought I find a place to eat around the area. Stumbled upon this place so why not, seemed quite empty inside. Placed our order and now we wait. The wait was so Iong, I was able to make 2 separate trips to nearby grocery stores on foot and back.. and still no food on the table. Seems like there was only 1-2 lady working there and she was mainly catering towards her toddler. Food finally came and they were ok. The steamed rice felt like there were more rice than noodles and the soy sauce was the salty one instead of the sweet one. Pork belly was on the saltier side and omg the XO fried rice... the scallops were fried till there were no more life in them, so hard to chew on! And then we finally asked for the bill. That also took a decade because the only thing those workers did was chit chat with no urgency. Wouldn't come back.

Saw this place pop-up on Yelp some time ago and have been wanting to try it. A friend recently ate here and highly recommended. I decided to takeout one day after work. Online ordering is available for a small fee and you pay for your order at the restaurant. I ordered a preserved meat clay pot rice, a Chinese sausage and pork spareribs steamed rice with lotus leaves and a salt pepper chicken wings. The restaurant is pretty decent in size with quite a few tables. It looked like just a young couple running the whole place. The dad was napping in a makeshift playpen/play area near the order counter with his toddler when I arrived. The mom was behind the counter on the phone. It was early in the evening so only one table of two was occupied.I arrived about 10 minutes earlier than my quoted time so had to wait a bit. The toddler kept me entertained playing peekaboo with me.Credit card is accepted for orders over $20. I opted to pay cash seeing how truly mom/pops this place is.All three dishes were really good. The crispy rice at the bottom of the clay pot rice was mixed in with the rest of rice and preserved meat so gave us bits of crispy surprises throughout our meal. The chicken wings were plump and juicy!I'd love to go back sometime to dine in.

Taisan Huakee is most likely the place you're looking for if you're craving a solid clay pot rice with a crispy bottom. This is the newest addition to my list of SF go-to spots. Also, my friend and I did not feel bloated after chowing down here!recs: salt and pepper fried chicken wings, any of the clay pot ricesprice: ~$25/person before tip- Salt and Pepper Fried Chicken Wings: Comes with six pieces. A bit pricey for the amount, but each piece comes out piping hot and perfectly seasoned. Definitely worth a try!- Garlic Pea Shoots: Large portion and really flavorful, but a little tougher than other restaurants' versions since there are more stems- Five Spice Spare Rib Clay Pot: Rice was perfect and short ribs were small, tender, and juicy.

I'm not that big a claypot aficionado, and I've had Taishanese food just a couple of times. However, the mention of poached and steamed chicken always perks up my palate, so I took the always-full 38-Geary to the Avenues to come try this restaurant. It must've been the tail end of the lunch hour because there were just a few occupied tables finishing up their meals as I walked in.I think the servers were already checked out because I could hardly get anyone's attention. The menu was pretty extensive running on for four pages with no subcategories. Like I said, what caught my eye was the $14.95 Salted Chicken Steamed Rice. What arrived was a large bamboo steaming basket lined with lotus and covered with an inordinate amount of steamed rice (photo: https://yelp.to/SBqUA2jLxG).The steamed, skin-on chicken was chopped into bite-size pieces and topped with green onion and dollops of grated ginger. All was tasty except the bones were a chore to eat around, especially with the chicken pieces too hot to touch. BTW I liked the complimentary soup. It had nothing to do with the chicken, but it had tofu and various root vegetables so I was satisfied (photo: https://yelp.to/0ImnUjbPIx).FOOD - 4 stars...the ginger makes this steamed chicken work, the bones not so muchAMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...big enough Chinese dining room, that's itSERVICE - 3 stars...middling attentionTOTAL - 4 stars...for your steamed chicken fix...if you have oneRELATED - Exploring the Richmond? * date visited: 09.05.2024* ordered: preserved meat claypot rice, assorted vegetables (lol), and duck first of all, i paid $22 after tax and tip which is insane in sf for this amount of food.the service is efficient and they came by a few times to refill tea, and they also gave us complimentary soup! the claypot rice was sooooooo good and crispy af and i loved both the pork belly and chinese sausage. the "veggies" were 98% meat, radish, taro, and peanuts in oil but im honestly not complaining -- i enjoyed tbh LMAO. super good flavor.the duck was big for the price and cooked well, super salty and flavorful and fatty.will 100% be back

This location replaced Dong Bei Mama, which we felt was a good restaurant. But congrats on your retirement.Quality/Quantity - 4 page menu with their specialities. Some "general" popular dishes; see pictures. My daughter ordered all the specialities:Complimentary Soup - See picture, fairly standard for a "Taison" restaurant. Mild flavors, generous daikon radishes, some carrots, and one bone with a little meat on it.#5. Chicken & Dried Mushroom Steamed Rice - Single serving...? Well this could feed 2 - 3 of us and yes, we are light eaters. So we felt they had generous portions, but the flavor was mild. It needs more sauce, spices, etc.#10. Sauteed Preserved Meat with Cauliflower - This was the "hit;" everyone's favorite. You get the option of choosing cauliflower or chinese broccoli; we chose the cauliflower as it is more tender for our guests.# 12. Beef and Egg Clay Pot Rice - Generous tender meat/beef and good sized. Maybe too large, lol. Mild flavors, I would have preferred more spices, etc.Atmosphere - Small local restaurant.Open 6 days a week from 11am to 9pm, closed Tuesdays. Two unisex bathrooms.Metered street parking, or free residential parking if you can find a space.Service - Good. Family business. One of our waitresses was a mom with her 1 year old on her back (for privacy reasons, I did not take a picture); but so so cute. And obviously a hard worker. The grandma converted a corner to a play area for the other kids; again so cute but shy. When we see this, we try to support more. Hard working families that will do anything to make their business successful. Most of the family spoke only limited English, but the owner spoke enough to help us.Price - $44 + generous tip.Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since April 2023. Support local businesses.

A Chinese hole in the wall restaurant with good Chinese food and cheap prices. Aside from having pretty good claypots I have found that they have a salt and pepper deep fried fish which is really good. The staff is very friendly and service is quick. Also no corkage fee.Only complaint is the noise level is a little high from their tv or children's toys.
