I usually look at prices so that's on me but I was surprised after swiping my card that I had spent $5.99 on one clove of garlic at this store. I understand that corner stores are going to mark up for convenience BUT that amount seems unethical to charge. To add to this frustration, the first bulb I unwrap is already softening and browning. I no longer trust this store.

So grateful to have this cute little corner store around the block from me. The fact they put out fresh cut flowers out front just adds an extra something special.Sunny Country Foods has a great selection of wine and beer (no hard alcohol), soft drinks, dry foods, and some fresh foods. The price point is a bit higher than the grocery store (which is to be expected), but the convenience and friendly customer service from this local shop more hank makes up for it. So happy to have Sunny Country Foods in my neighborhood.

Little family-owned convenience store near my apartment. They have what you'd expect: basic foods, basic drinks, basic household stuff. They also have a great selection of fresh flowers--something that's very convenient to have near home indeed. They're across the street from Walgreens and the contrast couldn't be starker. Come here for human touch--you won't regret it.

I was very disappointed with the way I was treated when I entered the shop there was nobody to be found. After 5 minutes a guy with a shaved head comes out " I think it was the owner."I attempted to purchase a five hour energy and the guy told me "no you can't use your credit card unless it's at least five dollars." That's bs. I use my cards for smaller purchases all the time. I told him "OK then. No thanks." He sneered at me and muttered something rude, which I won't repeat. Then he stomped away like a little kid who's daddy told him he couldn't have a toy. I don't appreciate being treated like that

I've only bought flowers, greeting cards, and a single glass bottle of orange juice from here. In other words, I know nothing about their foods. The orange juice was OK. The young lady to whom I gave the flowers (twice!) quite enjoyed them. She was also touched by the fact that I thought to send her cards purchased from Sunny Country after she had moved away from San Francisco. (She used to live around the corner from here.)Come to think of it, I did eat eggs and maybe even sourdough bread bought from here, but to be quite honest, I wasn't paying very much attention to breakfast at the time. Thanks for the memories, Sunny Country!

A late night grocery oasis in the area.I've always loved walking past Sunny Country. Their hanging baskets, blooming flowers, and glowing fruit have always struck me as being so European. The owner or one of their staff is usually outside tending to the fresh flowers and greeting passerby with genuine smiles and hellos. It wasn't till my most recent night walk that I actually stepped foot inside this quaint store. I was so surprised to see it still open at around 11:30pm. Their fruit lined their sidewalk in big bins - inviting in late night customers.I roamed around inside and was pleasantly surprised to see a variety of granola and oats, organic chicken apple sausage, brown rice cakes, Casa Sanchez chips, salsa, and guacamole, and a plethora of healthy frozen meals intermingled between your standard convenience store items.I didn't end up purchasing anything - since I was on my way to meet someone, but I am absolutely delighted that a late night, inviting grocery spot like this this exists in the hood. There's no need to lug your wallet over to Safeway - when Sunny County radiates such good energy on Stanyan.Trust.

Very convenient neighborhood shop run by nice people. They have a great beer and wine selection, and a grocery section where you can pick up basic stuff you might need. They have nice fruit and sell flowers as well.

I've lived in the neighborhood for nearly 18 years, and although I'd always been intrigued by the bright flowers and hanging baskets outside, until yesterday I'd never set foot inside Sunny Country Foods. I was walking by when it occurred to me that flowers would be a perfect way to acknowledge a milestone in a family member's life, so I selected a beautifully vivid bunch of dahlias. Stepping inside to pay for the flowers I was struck by the difference between the inside of the store and its street presence. Inside is dark and gloomy, with none of the cheer the outside exhibits. The products are mostly snacks, soft drinks and alcohol - a shabby corner store dressed up on the outside. The service was quite pleasant, though. While ringing them up the merchant asked me if they were a gift; when I said yes he tied a ribbon around them and carefully cut out the price tag.Three blocks later I'm home. I select a vase and start to unwrap them to arrange them. The moment I remove the plastic, a blizzard of petals falls off the blossoms. Working gently, I lift each one, make a fresh cut in the stem, and place it in in water. Petals continue to fall. Not just one or two, but loads of them. By the time I have the seven stems in water, one bloom is almost bare on one side and all are looking tired and bedraggled.$8.00 for seven half-dead cut flowers. The merchant was polite, but I imagine it is easy to smile when you're off-loading garbage and charging for intact goods. I wish I'd kept my money and my perfect record of never having shopped at Sunny Country Foods.

This review is for the liquor/convenience store section of the family business that runs both the restaurant and market. Typically the older family members at the register are very friendly and pleasant. Tonight the younger dark haired/dark skinned family member was an absolute dick. I asked about the pricing on several items that didn't have price tags on them nor any signage with prices. He seemed to make up the prices on the spot and I questioned that as nothing was posted. He didn't appreciate that and kicked me out without letting me buy the items I wanted. You've permanently lost my business and will always order from amazon.com. I was trying to honor and support local business but you blew it. No wonder mom and pop businesses are being pushed out of the city. What's the point when you have to deal with egotistical asshole attitudes from the owners son.

We absolutely love the store and amazing family that runs it. They usually have those few items needed to complete your meal and all the beverages options from beer to wine as well. They are a fixture in Cole Valley!!!
