Beautiful vintage ambience with nicely spaced seating and decor.Service was friendly. The crab dish was very flavorful, however, not sure if it's a whole crab or a mixture of shells, meat and stuffing shaped as a crab and deep fried. The creamy vermicelli base complimented the dish well. The sea bream though along with the coating tasted super dry and chewy. The fish didn't taste very fresh. Upon asking, the server suggested that's how their guests like it - chewy and dry! Dahi puri is flavorful and a very good palate cleanser. The dessert was very well made, delicate, fresh, soft and the components synced well together with just the right level of sweetness

Food was not filling, of small portions, and not all satisfactory. I was hoping more from this place honestly. The lamb chop was the best, followed by the chicken, and then one more dish We also got a cocktail and it was alright. We did manage to get last minute seats via walk in and sat outside. However, our waiter did order one of dishes incorrectly and it was super difficult to flag down our waiter. The floral decoration outside was very pretty -- it felt very fairy-like and garden. The interior is also gorgeous with moody jewel-toned colors.

Rooh is an upscale Modern Indian restuarnt with locations in SF and Palo Alto. Only 3.5 stars on Yelp. We ordered carefully by sticking to more Indian dishes than fusion ones. Beautiful restaurant that was not busy on a Sunday night.Food is about what we expected. Not great, beautiful, but not bad. Drinks were expensive and fair. We'd go back to Ettan instead.Safety Pluses - Online menu, Delivery services available, online ordering. Food Review:Ananas Collins ($12) was pretty ordinary. 6/10Ratnagiri Sour ($17) was also not the best cocktail. 6/10Gun Powder Paniyaram ($19) was vegan and hit the mark. Several tender balls surrounded by a beans. 8.5/10Dahi Puri ($14) looks really beautiful but was a bit too sweet and rich. Less yogurt would be better. 8/10Rooh's Potato Tikki Chaat ($18) is also a beautiful dish with while pea ragda, tamarind gel. Uses the same yogurt as the Dahi Puri. 8.5/10Malai Brocolli ($26) is an expensive veggie dish but was cooked well on with burnt chili oil. 8/10Butter chicken ($30) had a lot of chicken. Not very spicy, nor too creamy. Good but not great. 8/10Garlic Naan ($6) is eggless and lacked form. 7/10 Overall - Very GoodFood - Very GoodDecor - ExcellentService - Very GoodValue - GoodWould we come back - No

Went for a work dinner here and would not go again. Some of the most expensive food I've ever seen for Indian food. I understand it's "modern" Indian food, but it was $50 for a regular $15 looking biryani. $20 for 4 bites of the pinwheels.Service was solid, but nothing to write home about. We were sat outside on the street in a little corner and didn't like it, there really was no ambiance.Would not go here again.

A disappointing meal given its reputation - and the substantially better fine dining Indian spots in the Bay Area. I wanted to like it, and I was excited to try it, but it's elevated only in that the plating is beautiful. And every dish comes out looking stunning. But I can't remember much of the meal, other than that the meal tasted like any other meal anywhere else - and that the naan was massively disappointing - almost too dry, with none of the texture or bounciness that I like. Service is great - and attentive - especially because the place was empty. The restaurant is beautiful, the plating is beautiful, but we skipped dessert because it was better to just go somewhere else by the end.

This is a solid modern Indian spot with lots of good food options. It's a great place to bring your friends and family to introduce him to Indian food. The vibes are great. The ambience is great and the restaurant was packed. The service might be a little bit slow, but you will definitely get your food and drinks and we really enjoyed the chicken, tiki masala and all the appetizers. Try asking for recommendations on what's popular and you won't be disappointed.

Came here for my birthday dinner, I loved the decor and ambiance. Service was good too, and the dessert was my favorite part of the meal. I enjoyed the main dishes too but I felt like the curries we ordered could've been better.

Were at Rooh for their special menu night and the food was amazing! So much more than the boring same Indian. The Chef , Apurva is outstanding and continues to out do himself. The mackerel curry was fantastic. I am a Goan and very picky about my Goan curries, it felt like a taste of Goa. Took me back to the banks of Mandovi and the Arabian Sea huts. The desserts were also extraordinary and there was nothing left on the plate! :) We will continue to be regulars here!

Food, and ambiance:It was so cold so asked for a cup of chai to begin with. Told that no chai/coffee was served during dinner. Anyways almost got up and left. They forgot my son's appetizer, when asked they finally brought it out with his main dish. Horrible service, overpriced, as for ambiance poorly done. Never going there again.

Rooh is an upscale modern Indian restaurant with great reviews for the SF location. We wanted to try it out and went to Palo Alto one for my birthday, hoping it lived up to the hype. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed, with a refined ambiance that makes it a great choice for special occasions. However, the high prices make it less of an everyday dining spot.We appreciated the elegant plating and presentation of the dishes. That said, while the food was visually stunning some of the usual dishes like butter chicken or pinwheells were all great but not extraordinary.the kulcha was really nice with some fusion and we liked it. Service is pretty good too. Although it's on the pricier side, the creativity and quality make it a memorable dining spot in Palo Alto.
