Best sandwich I've had in SF the sandwiches are big with a great menu to choose from or you can build your own. Also if you want whole roasted chickens this is your spot.

I bought a small watermelon and I noticed they charged more then the listed price of $6.99. They ADD 4% to all credit card purchases. You charge $3.00 more then Trader Joes for a smaller watermelon and you still need to add 4%!!!Not going there again

Truly a friendly neighborhood place. My bf got the skinny jean and I was wondering what those little dough pockets w/ meat were. The guy at the counter described it as "mini middle eastern pizza with ground beef and onions". My curiosity got the better of me and I asked him to heat one up for me - then when the sandwich was done he said we didn't have to pay for the mini pizza! Later I looked up the proper name - I think it's esfiha.Skinny jean - 4 stars(roast turkey, had it on dutch crunch)Can't go wrong with dutch crunch! Best buttery bread ever. As always they pile on the ingredients and smush it all together so each bite is still do-able. Very good.Esfiha - 2 stars(ground beef, onion, on dough)As awesome as it was that this was free, it was actually really dry and flavorless =(. But as I live around the corner, Polk & Green Produce now has a loyal customer!

Needed a quick bite to go en route to Baker Beach. Saw that this grocery store had a deli in the back so we checked it out. Wow talk about tons of choices for some gourmet sounding sandwiches! I was overwhelmed by the different choices so I decided to build my own sandwich for 6.49 You can choose from a bunch of different breads like rye, wheat, white, Dutch crunch, sourdough and choose to have it toasted.I got Dutch Crunch, untoasted, with peppered roasted turkey and it came with mayo, lettuce, tomato, oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, etc. The sandwich was HUGE. Its cool to see them cut the meet and the fresh cheese slice. Lots of choice for cheese! Got the pepper jack cheese. Yum. Since its in a grocery store you have your choices of drinks, chips, etc. I'd love to come back and try the other sandwiches. Located in the prime spot of Polk street in Russian Hills where you are next to fro-yo shops, shopping, bars, hardware stores, etc.

I'm not the type of person who buys potatoes on impulse, but when walking my dog past this bodega I saw a basket of them and remembered the curry I had planned to whip up that evening. So I grab a couple of Idaho's finest and walk in to pay. The guy behind the counter is about 70, unremarkable except for the fact that he's holding his false teeth in his right hand. Seeing me, he casually drops said dentures into the nickel drawer in the register, and at this point I'm praying he's ambidextrous but nope! he rings me up, takes my $2, and hands me the change, all of course with the denture hand. The potatoes were old and green and wound up in the compost bin. Can't say I'll be back to this fine establishment.

Okay, so I'll be the lowest-starred review on here, that's fine.I've been in this store, like, three times. Their sandwiches always look really good, and smell really good, but I'm not reviewing the sandwich shop. I'm reviewing the STORE. I've never really found what I absolutely needed in here...because it's mega overpriced. I'd rather go to the Real Food Company 150 feet away. It has more variety, fresher vegetables, good, fresh meat, and more of the brands that I like to buy...at reasonable prices. However, I have one experience that will ensure that I never come back here again. All I did was ask the guy in front if they had one item. He said, "No." And I'm like, "Bummer, alright, later." BEFORE I EVEN WALK OUT THE DOOR, I hear him and a customer inside laughing at me and mocking me. I almost walked back in, but I decided it wasn't worth it. That was awful and made me feel awful. Just because you don't know what something is doesn't mean you immediately start bad-talking your customers. And trust me, I was a supervisor at a grocery store for a year...and sometimes I didn't know what the hell my customers were asking me for. That's what Google is for. I would give this place ONE star, but that sandwich shop in the back seems to be their saving grace. I honestly don't think this is the place to go if you want groceries. If you can help it, go to Real Food Company or even Walgreen's. And if you need alcohol, go to The Jug Shop. If you need cheese, go to Cheese Plus. Honestly, just anywhere but here.

Technically, the deli in the back of the store that is run by the owners of the produce market is called, "The Boy's Deli" so I'm going to write a separate review for that (they get 5 stars!!).This neighborhood market is great when you can't find something at Walgreen's or don't want to pay $8 for tomatoes at Real Foods. I would actually start here, but the sequence in the location of the stores goes in opposition to my walking path. They have everything from household items to good wine.

Let me first start by saying that the guys who own and run this place are some of the hardest working and nicest people I have ever met. I know this because I have lived nearby for over 12 years now. They are dedicated to making their business better and are always looking for ways to make it better suit the neighborhood needs. Recently in the past several years the next generation of family has started working in the store and they are also hard working and very nice which I think speaks well of the two original guys. This store is not a Real Foods or Whole Foods, but they fill a niche that the other two don't - furthermore, they really listen to the needs of the customers about what they would like to see stocked on the shelves. Recently they opened a deli in the back, since I work from home, I frequently eat from all the nearby neighborhood places. The deli is delicious! I like the Mediterranean sampler plate so I get to taste everything. Also, I like to make my own pita with their fresh roasted chicken, hummus or babaganoush and tabouli salad - YUMMY
