I've walked past this coffee shop on my way to work so many times, and it always caught my eye. When I finally stopped in, I was glad I did. Not only is the space inviting, but I also noticed it's part of the city's Vacant to Vibrant program--so it's great to see the owners bringing life and energy back into the city.Inside, the vibe is just right. They play great music, and the atmosphere is relaxed--perfect for enjoying a coffee, getting some work done, or just taking a break with a book. They offer a solid selection of coffees and lattes, along with some pastries if you're in the mood for a bite. There's seating available too, which makes it a nice spot to hang out.On top of that, the people here are genuinely friendly. It's always nice to visit a place where you feel welcomed. If you're in the area, definitely check it out!

New, solid spot for coffee in SOMA! I stopped by here on a work morning, and it was pretty empty, so quickly got my coffee. There's some seating around, but not enough to make it feel like a good cafe to work at. I got a cortado, and it was overall good. It was pretty clear the milk frothing wasn't done by an expert (pretty weak on the texture), but the underlying espresso was well done. Definitely give them a shot if you're in the area and need some coffee!

This little jewel of great coffee that recently has opened in the 303 plaza is a great addition to downtown. Nice vibes, friendly staff, excellent single origin selections.Seems to consistently have people, which I'm so pleased about. I hope they are finding this to be a welcoming home. Check 'em out. And then have a lovely relaxing coffee break at the fountain park in the plaza.

I was SO happy that paper son opened up a closer location to work. The drinks are creative and yummy. They just hired a new pastry chef who is at this location from W-F and he is amazing!! The cookie we got was so chewy and fresh out of the oven - the other stuff too looked amazing and we will definitely be coming back to try them. We arrived at opening (8am) and all the pastries were all ready for us! The cafe itself is super cute with 4-5 tables. My only complaint would be I wished this place opened up slightly earlier!!

Love the matcha tea drink here. The ham & cheese croissant was okay, but still enjoyable. Also, such a lovely vibe for a pop up. Love the interior. I believe this is their second pop up location. They have another one in the Dogpatch area next to Neighbor Bakehouse.I have to admit that I was intrigued by this business because of the unique name. The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 was a very racist law that prevented immigrants, specifically Chinese immigrants from entering the United States during the period of 1882-1943. This is after the U.S. benefited from many Chinese laborers that built the transcontinental railroad. This law was the first and only major law that ban a specific nationality. The Act was later repealed in 1943 (61 years later). According to Harvard Business School's 2022 Working Paper Series' Abstract, "The Act lowered income for all workers, and caused a sharp contraction in manufacturing, mining and agriculture. (Citation: https://www.hbs.edu/faculty/Pages/item.aspx?num=62403#:~:text=The%20Act%20lowered%20income%20for,in%20manufacturing%2C%20mining%20and%20agriculture.)So not only was this act racist, it also caused economic harm to all Americans.Paper Son referenced the buying of papers from Chinese-American citizens so that the children of non-citizens can enter the US during that time-period. These Paper Sons often take on the last names of the Chinese American citizens who may not have had kids.I did ask one of the staff and was told that one of the owners' grandparents(?) was a Paper Son and the name pays homage to them. History aside, I hope this pop up does well.Located on 2nd St. and Folsom St.

Stopped by this coffee shop and grabbed a pandan iced coffee and added oat milk. It did taste a little watered down though so maybe I shouldn't have added the oat milk haha. I really liked how it wasn't too sweet and the pandan was subtle which I liked. I would definitely come back again to try the guava iced coffee in the future! There happened to be a croissant pop up so of course I also grabbed some bites to eat - I'm saving the matcha strawberry and the dubai chocolate ones for dessert tonight with my boyfriend but the croissant on the ham and garlic cream cheese one that I ate was delicious! A little too much of the cream cheese filling for me personally but I enjoyed it still. Everyone was really nice when I went in, especially the person who was selling the pop up croissants! Super helpful with my decisions

One of my friends told me about the Paper Son Coffee pop up in SOMA and I had to pop in! One of the best matcha's I have ever had, got it iced with oat milk. There was a bit of sweetener in it but it was the perfect amount. Not a lot of places to sit (there's a few small tables, but that's about it) but will def be back! I hope they stay here permanently as Paper Son Coffee will def be one of my go to's.

I've been wanting to try Paper Son but Dogpatch is farther for me, so I hadn't made it down there. Recently, they opened up a location in SoMa near the ballpark (and on 2nd street! A major bike lane street! For me, at least.) I walked in on their fourth day open and there was a line shortly after 10am on a Tuesday. Service was friendly, prompt, and warm, and remembered my name. They seemed friendly with everyone inside. Great location and decor. It's bright and airy (and of course minimalistic.) I tried the pandan aeropress which the barista said was like a cold brew. It was refreshing and delicious, I love the flavor and aroma (yes, its default is iced.) There were cute tote bags I wanted to take but they were attached with clasps so it seemed like you needed to take a few steps to get one.)I'll be back to try more! Their menu looked interesting and it's extremely on my way to my office. Excited to see them take off in popularity going forward.

Paper Son has a downtown location! I've been a fan of their coffee from Neighbor Bakehouse for a while and am so excited they have a more accessible location!Visited mid-morning on a Wednesday. Not a huge line (it's a bit of a walk from Montgomery station) and only one staffer/barista working. But service was quick and the barista helped me decide on the guava pillow - one of their seasonal offerings. The guava foam was my favorite part. Super tropical feel to get over the Wednesday hump! I'm not a huge cold brew fan (the base is a sparkling coffee concentrate), but this is a great choice for a warm summer day.Coming back for more of their coffee and to try their pastries. Highly recommend!
