We walked in without a reservation around 5pm on Friday. We were the only diners until about 6pm. The restaurant is dark and a bit intimate if it wasn't for the dance club music. For a moment I thought I was in a gay bath house or at circuit party. Staff were friendly. We ordered the following: crispy rice with spicy tuna, soft shell crab, 3 omakase temaki hand rolls, Okane roll and a yuzu sorbet for dessert. Crispy rice was great. For the omakase temaki hand rolls we got: salmon/squid, uni/scallop and tuna. A good deal at $7 for each hand roll. I've yet to have a bad soft shell crab anywhere. It's the same anywhere from my experience. I did have to ask for the spicy mayo because we got ponzu instead. The Okane roll was overly sauced. The yuzu sorbet was perfect to end the meal and a palate cleanser.

Located in north San Francisco, it's a very small shop and tables fill fast. You can make reservations but not when they are super busy. We ordered a bunch of nigiri and sashimi but the highlight was the beef sukiyaki, one of the best I have ever had.Salmon sashimi 10/10Yellowtail sashimi 10/10Uni nigiri 10/10Otoro fatty blue fin tuna 10/10Soft shell crab sushi 5 rolls 10/10Beef sukiyaki 15/10Agedashi tofu 10/10All these items for two came out to about $182 with sake. Kind of expensive but a nice treat.

Absolutely loved this little spot. The fish is fresh and we got a mix of classics and unique servings. Would highly recommend the Okane roll and getting the omakase options. The handrolls especially were served beautifully and a delicious surprise.Gotta go back to try the full omakase and then their flagship, Omakase ;)!!

Nice place in the Design District. It's quite pricey, but the food is pretty decent. The Hamachi Kama was really good and the Temari Omakase stood out as well, everything else was pretty standard, good quality sushi. They gave my dad a free scoop of ice cream for his birthday.

I love everything about this spot! The staff is so friendly and the food is super fresh. Their sake selection is fantastic and I loved the ambiance. I love hole in the wall spots and we found this place randomly on open table. I felt like the meal was worth the price and they even gave us complimentary sake because we couldn't decided between two. Will 100% be back whenever we're in town.

OkaHas a Michelin bib to this restaurant but it was the most disappointing sushi restaurant I've been to. Everything was overpriced and quality wasn't much different than a lower end sushi restaurant. Hamachi carpaccio: what you'd expect normally Beef skewer: lowkey tasted like a meatball lol but the sauce was a good compliment to it.Happy spoon: probably my favorite. A little pricy but there's so much going on at once and everything just blended together.Sashimi- very fresh, too fresh? The toro did not have texture and was way soft.Don't listen to everything Michelin says!

Okane offers a nice change of pace from its Michelin-starred sibling, Omakase. Located right next door, Okane provides a more relaxed vibe for enjoying Japanese comfort food. Think shareable plates, creative rolls, and other Asian specialties. The restaurant itself is intimate, with limited indoor seating, including bar stools. It creates a cozy atmosphere, perfect for a casual date night or catching up with friends. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, to avoid a wait. Our server, Yui, was fantastic. He was attentive and friendly, even taking the time to chat with us about the menu and the nigiri as he was preparing them. We opted for the nigiri combo, hamachi carpaccio, uni nigiri, and Wakadori Karaage (crispy chicken). The hamachi carpaccio was a bit underwhelming - the slices were thinner than we expected. We also had to request ginger (after our first few dishes), which seemed like an oversight. The star of the show, however, was definitely the nigiri combo. Our 10 pc. nigiri combo included -1. Hirame2. Shima aji3. Hamachi4. Salomon belly5. Kurodai6. Ikura7. Maguro8. Hokkaido scallop9. Japanese baracuda10. Toro with caviarEach piece featured generous cuts of fresh fish. My personal favorites were the kurodai, salmon belly, Japanese barracuda, and the splurge-worthy toro with caviar. These were melt-in-your-mouth delicious! On the other hand, the uni nigiri was a bit of a letdown. At only $18 for two pieces, it felt like a steal, but unfortunately, the uni itself wasn't as sweet as we'd hoped and had a bit of a fishy aftertaste. The Wakadori Karaage was decent but a bit dry and could have used more sauce for the amount of chicken.Okane is a decent choice for a casual Japanese dining experience. The fresh fish in the nigiri combo was excellent, especially some of the premium cuts. The service was friendly and attentive. However, a few minor stumbles with the hamachi carpaccio, uni, and karaage kept it from being a perfect experience. If you're looking for a more relaxed take on Japanese cuisine with a focus on fresh fish, Okane is worth a try. Just keep in mind the limited seating and make a reservation!

Recently went back for dinner and there were changes to menu and quality. Menu updates included sashimi orders decreasing from 5pc to 3pc, more roll options and more hot plates. We got chicken karage, a few sashimi orders and rolls. food came out very slowly, rolls were sitting at the counter but server didn't bring to our table until we asked if that was our food? And sashimi was oddly room temperature and not the usual fresh taste as in the past. The restaurant itself is unchanged in the layout and has the same moody vibe with low lighting and relatively quiet music as before*TLDR-- would recommend other sushi places in the city for the price and quality*

Excellent sushi spot with a wonderful chefs choice nigiri. We loved all the unique fish on the Chefs Choice and also tried the A5 Waygu Tataki. Finished with a couple hand rolls as well as the Townsend Roll and everything was super fresh and flavorful. Definitely be back to to the chefs special again.
