I've been to Odori a couple times now and it has met my expectation every time. I ordered the omakase, chirashi bowl, and the salmon Kama. The restaurant does take a while to make the food but it's to be expected because our server mentioned only 3 people are working at the time. Our server was very attentive though and nice. No complaints in that department. The interior of the restaurant is just like any other average sushi spot. So don't expect a fancy ambiance of a 3 dollar sign place. I'm only basing my review on the food and service and both were stellar! I'll definitely be back. I highly recommend the omakase, the sashimi is very fresh and so affordable (only $39.95 for 10 pieces!!!). I genuinely do not think you can find that price anywhere else.

I love Tonkatsu as a comfort food. So when we had to be at the hospital overnight and the cafeteria closed I decided to order here. They stayed open 20 minutes later for me to make it out to them. I wasn't that far but traffic interfered . The people were sure kind and reassuring. We talked for a bit as I paid and the food was 1000% worth the trip.

I honestly think Odori is such a hidden gem in palo alto! Their food is so fresh and delicious, and at a very affordable price. Me and my friends ordered the gyoza, spicy garlic karaage, chirashi bowl, ramen, salmon mango roll, and salmon kama! I really liked the spicy garlic karaage as our appetizer; it's not spicy at all and has a sweet and tangy taste to it. It's not really like your typical japanese crispy karaage, but definitely saucy and delicious. The chirashi bowl is a must if you love fresh sashimi. The bowl is extra delicious because they also season the rice with sauce and furukake! I got the ramen, and this may be biased because i love noodles, but i thought it was a very solid ramen. There's actually a decent amount of ingredients and a lot of noodles. The salmon and mango roll is one of my go to rolls when I come here because the combo is so unique but it pairs so well, because the mango adds some sweetness to the rolls. If you love fatty salmon, you have to get the salmon kama, it's so fatty, juicy, and meaty. The place is a bit small for a restaurant, but there are still a decent amount of tables. I think this place is family owned and is quite short staffed, but our food still came out punctually. The waiter was super friendly and nice and gave us honest recommendations. Overall definitely think this is a hidden gem in palo alto and would recommend to everyone that loves sashimi and sushi!

No idea why this place is under 4 stars. The sushi is spectacular. Maguro, toro, loving heart, 49er, all fresh and made to order with the highest quality fish. The staff is incredibly nice and the restaurant has a lovely welcoming Japanese environment. Prices are well within normal. Come try for yourself. Sushi places this good are hard to find.

We were at Stanford Mall, and wanted sushi. 4 out of 5 stars with 600+ reviews. Not bad right?!We walk in 4 adults and 2 toddlers on a Saturday at 7, the place was empty. Red flag!Prices seem fair, dinner combo for $23, not bad!Werent given any utensils, but food comes out! We have to ask for napkins, waitress with an attitude gives us literally 2 sheets of napkins.Service- 1 outta 10The only reason they got a 1, is because once of the chefs gave my nephew a pockee stick because he was crying. But we didnt get utensils, get checked on once, and didnt get our drinks refilled. On top of all that we got charged an 18% gratuity charge for a large party. Which was 4 adults and 2 kids, I asked our waitress about it. She said toddlers are considered people too. Food- 4.5 out of 10Quality was a little below averageBut the portion size was really bad.I seen a sign going to the bathroom that their business took a hit because of Covid. Let me tell you. It wasnt covid! Its your SERVICE & food portions!Nobody was in that restaurant but us, and your service was horrible!!Our bill was $150, with an automatic 18% tip! Wild!!!

More like a 3.5. Tbh when we first walked in I was very worried. The restaurant was empty save for one other table and the decor feels old and yellow. The cooked dishes aren't worth getting but I was pleasantly surprised by the nigiri.

I'm spoiled by our fresh fish in Seattle so take this review with a grain of salt. I have higher standards for sushi and fresh fish because of that. The fish here wasn't super fresh and could be better. Dinner entrees were a bit underwhelming.California Roll - a standard California roll, comes with 6. When in California, I had to go for a basic.Stanford Roll - this is just a Rainbow Roll renamed and marked up. So a bit disappointing, I thought everything would be on each roll. Fish was alright, not fresh but not bad.Dinner Combination with Saba Shioyaki and Salmon Teriyaki - the salmon had too much sauce so each bite was just salty soy sauce. Also a tiny little fillet. Comes with one measly somewhat embarrassing scoop of rice which was really small. Saba (mackerel) was actually pretty good though.

Have you seen the show Interior:Chinatown on HULU? The restaurant becomes successful for reasons other than the food. I'm thinking about that as I write this review. We arrive at 4:30pm Sunday. Another couple just after us, they sit at the back. Otherwise, it is wide open. As soon as we walk in, we are greeted by some guy at the bar. Thinking he works there, we say hi. He tells us that he has been there since they opened. Our server comes out and we are seated right away, only steps from the bar. Then the man at the bar points out that my companion looks like the guy in American Sniper and how that man was a g-d hero. Did you see that one shot he made from a mile away? A few minutes later he invites my friend to go outside and smoke some THC and that it's good, Hell's Angel's THC. (My friend, who is sober, declines.) He politely asks if he has served in the military? (No.) We have managed to order karaage, kama, some rolls, toro sashimi and single uni and unagi nigiri. The karaage was seasoned with 5 spice, which is Chinese. Maybe you won't care; My companion didn't, but maybe that was also a legit thing to focus on to avoid stray conversation. The man at the bar is telling the cook that he knows that even though he owes them a back balance and that tho he has a wallet full of money, he isn't able to settle his tab that night (Sunday) but after one more drink he will then owe $80 and pay $100 on Wednesday. Would they be interested in taking his jacket instead of the cash? (they politely decline and prefer money, even thought they know it will not be that night.)The salmon kama was legit. The most legit item on our table. 100% recommend. In a soft voice, the man at the bar earnestly explains to the cook that he wants him to know that the prior incident wasn't his fault and that he is truly sorry. The other guy had pulled a knife and what was he supposed to do but defend himself. There was nothing he could do, but he was sorry nonetheless. The rolls arrive, we can't figure out if we got the other table's order? Our server is talking with the man at the bar. The Dept of Corrections let him leave the state, but he had to leave Hawaii because they wouldn't give him his methadone. Otherwise, Hawaii is a beautiful place, but they just wouldn't give him his medicine. She silently places a baked roll on the table, we have no idea if we ordered it. We eat it anyway and keep listening to tall tales getting taller.Over the course of an hour, we learn directly and indirectly, that a producer thinks he looks like Jason Statham and wants to put him in the movies, sure he can punch but he can't do the martial arts though this morning his roommate went to slap him and he side stepped it; that he has a restaurant in Sunnyvale and that the staff should bring their whole family and he will pick up the tab; that he is in love with our Chinese waitress who works in a Japanese restaurant and that if they made love she would break him.My toro arrives, I am 2 of 5 pieces in before my friend points out that I'd ordered sashimi. Well, damn, so engrossed in eavesdropping I miss entirely that it is toro nigiri instead. I debate flagging our server down and decide to let it slide. The man at the bar insists that the cook should give him a discount on the drinks, he is told that is not possible. Later, he offers a sip of his beer to the cook, who declines, saying he must work. Maudlin now, the man at the bar apologizes, sadly. The cook kindly asks him why he apologizes and that he doesn't need to be sorry. By this time, some people have come to pick up a large to-go order that is not quite ready, they stand at the bar to wait. The man at the bar learns that one customer is a land use lawyer. What kind of lawyer is that? The man at the bar needs a good litigator for a matter involving The White Mafia, IFYKYK, and him taking down a child sex trafficker. The customer agrees that a criminal attorney is what he needs, but sadly, his firm doesn't do that sort of work. His jacket, given to him by Jerry Rice, is valuable. It turns out that he used to procure women for Jerry Rice back in the day. He has a 2002 BMW but prefers to take the bus back to Sunnyvale where his roommate parks their huge SUV, meaning he has no parking for his car. After we settle our bill, $130, without knowing if it was right or not, we go across the street to the international market. He is there getting a little something before he catches the bus. As we drive away, I see him waiting at the bus stop, his deep red jacket illuminated under the street lamp.

The food and experience at Odori is unmatched. It is the perfect off-campus spot for students and alumni alike. We go back every year we are on campus, and David makes us feel at home.
