Unfortunately, everything about this place in my opinion is great. while I'm not a fan of the owner; I saw a few reviews about him recently that my heart feels were taken out of context. I've been a loyal patron of this establishment for over a decade. Monroe, Unlike most bars in the city has retained the (mostly) same staff for that entire experience. #loyalty Nightlife isn't easy, however if you decide to come (my preference on SUNDAY) I believe you will HAVE to acknowledge the sense of community you will find there. While the owner (as mentioned in other reviews) is named Payam, I feel like I must disclose we are not and could never be described as friendly. However, I continue coming for the qualities he brings to the venue. the artistic direction is delicious, the speakers are loud, and if you catch mr. P in the right mood...... I heard he has a wicked fog machine. (there is more but this is a review not a love poem )I suggested Sunday because it's my favorite dance party. I can understand it's not everyone's vibe. yet I've been enjoying this spot for too long to not let it be known..... I have gone to bed at 8-9pm on a Saturday to wake up at 4 am Sunday, excited to do my makeup and hair so I can arrive when they open at 6 am sharp. Their Sunday talent booker fu€ke$! the music is always so good. (My taste)I love this place & the people employed to work there. More than any other venue in the city. this place and my bed are what I miss when I travel. I hope one long weekend / night / or perspective doesn't dissuade you. please come enjoy Monroe for yourself.

I have never had an experience this racist at any place in San Francisco. Halloween night we come to this lounge and the bouncer told us to wait in a long line so we waited for 30 minutes and once we reach the front, the manager (Payam) in the photo began to tell my friends and I that we could come in, but my fiancé could not. Payam refused to let my fiancé in and claimed it was because he was wearing a jersey for Halloween and he doesn't think his costume is elaborate enough. The other bouncers literally said that my boyfriend had a great New Yorker costume on, but they couldn't do anything because their boss was making the rules. If your employees don't see an issue with my fiancé entering, obviously you just looked at him and had prejudice. Then in front of us Payam continued to let in several people who were not Black who were wearing a T-shirt and jeans. If you are white or Asian, Payam will let you in with no problem. Payam is simply racist towards Black men especially and was only turning away Black men, and trying to make excuses. My friends and I checked the website and there was no description of this no jersey rule also on social media they never said that they would not let people in for dressing up as a basketball player. Notice in the picture the people they were letting in had no costume on.My fiancé and I are both hard-working school teachers, and we literally educate our youth to not end up with racial prejudice like Payam because we believe it simply has no place in the Bay Area or in America in general.

Battle is the decades on Fridays is so, so fun! They start at 5 with music from the 60s and drinks are a dollar. Then every hour they go up a decade and drinks go up in price. We try to get there for the 90s which is 8 to 9 and then stay for as long as the body lets us. Everyone is dancing and having a great time. The staff are nice and efficient, and I really appreciate the older security gentleman who is usually on the back. They have two bars, plus tables and bottle service. We'll come here for birthdays, anniversary, we even came after our wedding with our whole wedding party from like 22 to 80 years old. Everyone had fun.

I've been here a couple times with my friends after a night out of bar hopping. On Friday nights, they play music from different decades at every hour. On Saturday nights, they play top hits and throwbacks.Definitely come early if you don't want to wait in a long line! Majority of the crowd are college students, so it does feel like a frat party at times. Their drinks are also more affordable than other clubs.Going to the bathroom is always a mission, once you're deep inside the dance floor. The bathrooms are next to the bar and the intersection gets really crowded. However, I love that they offer complimentary coat check downstairs. Great spot if you enjoy dancing and don't mind the college students.

Line for this place doesn't really make sense. Takes forever to let people in , and they can pick and choose who gets in first. Even after we paid at the front of the line, there was no movement for another 30min. We asked for a refund and promptly left to go else. A lot of other options with no cover charge and great music n drinks.
