This cavernous space was previously the Golden State Grill, an oddly anomalous but fairly satisfying Mediterranean restaurant that didn't seem like a compatible match with the Excelsior. It has become an authentic Honduran restaurant and now it looks like it belongs in the neighborhood. Is that culinary profiling? Yeah, probably...But there was a constant stream of customers through the door, which is more than I can say about the two times I patronized Golden State. 'Know your market' is what I say. Now my familiarity with Honduran cuisine is limited. I believe it consists of hearty bowls of the menudo-like mondongo soup at El Paisa and Mi Yucatán further up Mission.I forgot about asking whether they had mondongo or not, so I ordered the $17 Camarones Fritos (Fried Shrimp) off the menu where many of the plates appeared near-identical. It was a pretty standard lunch plate - stir-fried unshelled shrimp with peppers, fried plantain slices, rice, refried beans, and salad (photo: https://bit.ly/3j3KEgn). Kinda oily for my taste, especially the plantains. Ay caramba.FOOD - 3 stars...a healthier execution would've appealed to me moreAMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...big space in hereSERVICE - 3 stars...pretty perfunctory TOTAL - 3 stars...decent Honduran plates but it could be moreRELATED - Exploring the Excelsior? 3.75 STARSBaleadas!IFYKYK. The end. J/k.Though you know, some reviews be like that these days.So helpful. =/I was driving through The Excelsior and saw that Mi Lindo Honduras took over Golden State Grill...which was one of the best hidden gems in the city. It was a place where you could find Kokkari caliber food for a fraction of the cost...because the chef worked at Kokkari's for 20 years. They were rarely busy so I guess not many people knew. So sad. In any event, I saw the banner for Mi Lindo Honduras and immediately thought: Baleadas! It's a Honduran street food consisting of a thick, handmade flour tortilla filled with mashed beans, crema/sour cream, and crumbled queso duro...with variations that include scrambled eggs, chorizo/meat, and/or avocado. It's like a large Honduran soft taco. I've tried several in the city so had to see how Mi Lindo Honduras stacks up. Mi Lindo Honduras is open for takeout and indoor dining only. No delivery or outdoor seating. If you're doing takeout; def call ahead as it took awhile for my order. M E N UHonduran fare: Apps, breakfast, soups, entrees, etc.Nothing is over $20.CASH ONLY!I was told they'll have their POS up and running next week. F O O D* Baleada Regular w/ beans, cheese, and sour cream ($3.50)* Baleada Super w/ beans, cheese, sour cream, eggs, avocado ($5): https://bit.ly/3o9DJRKThe handmade flour tortilla was warm, thick, and chewy but the edges were a bit tough. The beans were soft and chunky (like refried beans) and the queso duro was not overly salty which is appreciated. Very light handed with the sour cream.Def preferred the super baleada over the regular one because of the ripen, buttery avocado. Plus, with the scrambled eggs, one was enough for a small meal.I asked for hot sauce and was given a mild salsa roja; maybe they don't have hot sauce yet? * Sopa de Mondongo: Tripe Soup w/ handmade corn tortillas ($16)Ordered this for a friend so I didn't get to try it. Friend said, the mondongo included soft tripe, yuca, zucchini, cabbage, and coconut milk. No pig's feet; not sure if you need to request it? Non-yelp pics show rice with the mondongo but no rice was included, just corn tortillas. I know they're brand new but they need to improve on better packaging their soups. During the car ride, the container fell to the side and souped leaked out because part of the lid wasn't secured. Easy fix by using a small baggie to secure soupy items. S E R V I C EFriendly staff. My takeout order took awhile; 30 minutes. A M B I A N C ECasual, sports barish type vibes with counter, table, and booth seating. They kept the 49ers gold/red booths from Golden State Grill. P A R K I N GDifficult street parking.Overall, I'm still sad about Golden State Grill but glad to see more Honduran restaurants popping up in the city!

Impeccably clean. Great prices and, given the clientele, seems to be authentic food.I've had the tacos, which are very different from Mexican tacos, but very delicious. The cotija cheese, with the pickled onions, are great mix with the curtido that they put on top. The toppings really make the dish. One of the few restaurants in the area that I actually enjoy.
