needed a cute little place for a lunch date with friends and found this place on Yelp. I was surprised I'd never heard of it since I love so close. Visited on a Saturday afternoon and was able to be seated upon arrival. There was one person serving and taking orders for every table. Considering the interior is more on the intimate side, they did their best serving everyone as quick as possible. The menu is very straight forward. I'm not the most knowledgeable about pasta names so I had to use Google for a visual reference, but I heavily used the descriptions to decide what to order. I tried the mushroom pasta and loved how creamy the sauce was. The noodles themselves were very good as well. Overall the food was great and would like to experience their brunch service.

Warning, they will ask you to leave your table before you're done eating. The most rude, awful thing I've ever experienced at a nice restaurant. We had a reservation and after our main course and right after we order desert coffees were told "We are going to need this table back. There is a wait" during our $450 dinner. Food was incredible, glassware flatware plate were just gorgeous. Absolutely cold, awful treatment.

I loved everything! Really appreciate the unique, well thought out vegetarian dishes that were so delicious! The prices were definitely steep for a restaraunt with a more casual interior but it overall felt worth it for a nice dinner out! The service was also great

Great place for creative pasta. We got the Rotelle and the Mezzelune. The Rotelle was a nice, little bit sour duck pasta with a white wine sauce. I really enjoyed it and was quite savory. It reminded me of a chicken wine soup in Chinese cuisines. The rotelle pasta choice is a bit odd though. The Mezzelune is a more sweet dish. The sweet potato part was great and the grapes are also delicious but wasn't the biggest fan of the sauce. All in all, the place is very nicely decorated. We got sat at the bar and got to watch the cooks do their thing and they were definitely very meticulous and attentive. The staff were also very helpful and nice. Would recommend if you're looking a great pasta place without a budget.

Amazing neighborhood restaurant. The "casual" sister restaurant to SPQR around the corner is a must if you are looking for great Italian cuisine. I recommend grabbing a seat at the bar and watching the team prepare your food in front of you, especially on the open-flame wood grill.

I'd definitely recommend Mattina to anyone who wants a good lunch spot. Their brussel sprouts and arugula apple salad are divine. Somehow, I feel like the pasta is not as rich in flavor compared to others I've tried. The pasta is still very good and it's a great dining experience all around. Every dish is very fresh

I like the decor a lot, except the placemats. Maybe it was their lunch setting. Idk. But the woven plastic placemats cheapened the vibe? It was giving first college apartment. Weird next to their Design Within Reach chairs. The placemats also kept sliding around. Service - they felt understaffed in the kitchen and on the floor. There was one waiter that we saw at noon on Sunday. There were many open tables (85% open tables?) but he told us that there were a lot of reservations. We convinced him to allow us to add one more table for our party of three instead of three sharing a table for two. He finally acquiesced on our third inquiry when the reserving parties didn't seem to materialize before our food came (nor after - not all, still at least 60% free tables). Oh, they also brought the wrong beer but already opened it. The beer was pretty good though.Light order since we had a late breakfast and planned to get donuts from Johnny's after around the block:- asparagus and smoked egg. I thought this was not bad, well prepared but a pretty skimpy dish. - pasta pie. This was actually really good despite my guilt over carb on carb. Would get again based on taste but really they should call this slice of pasta pie to be clear that it's not an enclosed pie like chicken pot pie.- mushroom tagliatelle. This took like 30 minutes to come after the first two items. Mushrooms were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Pasta was al dente but needed more salt. Sauce packed mushroom flavor but also needed salt and also it was oddly kinda more liquid than sauce. I can't complain too much because I'd still order it again even though it could be improved. All in all, some decent dishes but I don't think I'd revisit for lunch. Perhaps it is a better spot for dinner.

Beautiful restaurant with an open kitchen. It's a combination of casual sit down restaurant and counter service coffee, where you can buy pastries and other sweets.I stopped by for lunch by myself and got 1 pasta dish and nothing else and the final check with everything included turned out to be $37... The portion was honestly a little small.I want to give it a better review because the food was fine, but honestly the price just wasn't worth it

Matinna is a hidden gem just off the bustle of Filmore Street. You can get an early morning coffee and exquisitely prepared baked goods. Lunch and dinner are also prepared and served with love. The gem salad is a favorite and combined with the blue shrimp and pork sausage just takes the meal to another level. Pair it with the Prosecco . Shout out to Sonia who answered questions about the food and wine and brought tastes or Primitivo and Chianti to choose to pair with the succulent lamb Tbone. She worked the floor on her own and was gracious and had a great sense of humor. Don't miss this place.
