I'm liking the concept of this fast casual Chinese place! The interior decor is fun and it's a chill order at the counter experience. The food overall was really creative, but I thought the plating combinations were not quite cohesive enough. Additionally, the food was overall a bit salty. The MSG chicken rice plate with fried rice: the chicken was fried really well and the "MSG" (mushroom, seaweed, garlic) seasoning was really good! Unfortunately the mushroom sauce was too salty and overwhelmed the dish. I don't think it needs a sauce at all. The fried rice was solid. The lotus root salad was disappointing since it lacked flavor and also barely had lotus (mostly Napa cabbage). It was really cold when I expected it to be warm, given there were sautéed vegetables in the salad. I didn't think the flavors overall worked together very well in the plate. Super savory fried chicken sandwich: Again, the fry on the chicken was really nice and crispy and I liked the aioli and onions in it. The hot and sour soup that came with it was neither spicy nor sour enough.Giving it 4 stars--solid quick dinner, hoping for better seasoning and cohesion of the dishes.

Ah have been wanting to try this place for so long after seeing a reel for it a year ago. Pineapple bun + fried chicken just sounds like a no-brainer combo.Unfortunately, I thought it was a bit overhyped, the pineapple bun didn't add much novelty to the sandwich -- genuinely forgot it wasn't regular bread at one point. I thought the chicken was on the drier end, the breading was thicker than expected make it quite tough to eat. I well say the jasmine house made soda was a pleasant surprise. Jasmine tea + club soda should be adopted more in menus.

My husband and I were huge fans of Brandon Jew ever since he opened Mister Jiu's in Chinatown. Mamahuhu's been opened for a few years now, which is his more casual outpost located in his very own neighborhood he resides in. This was the original location, and since then, he's opened other locations in Mill Valley and Noe Valley!I love this fast-casual Chinese food here. It's definitely not your traditional Cantonese style, but rather more refined, American-style Chinese food. It's not trying to be traditional - it's modern, it's a different interpretation. There is fun contemporary music, booth tables, and small tables for 2-4 people, not trying to be some large banquet hall for a big Chinese family. They serve wine and beer, and fun desserts. The dishes can be family style, but they also have individual plates for one. I wasn't a huge fan of Mamahuhu's when it first opened, but I think it's actually gotten better of the years. The food quality has always been great, but I think the flavors have kind of just found their way. We've been here countless times now, but most recently we ordered:Mapo tofu with pork, Broccoli and mushroom, MSG chicken, and Tomato Garlic Chow Mein. All were wonderful. I like the mapo tofu because it has this richness to it, something in the spices, different from how you would get a traditional Chinese restaurant. I also loved the Broccoli and mushroom, which I guess is the vegetarian version of the Brocolli & beef, but the veggies were incredible!!! You could really taste the quality of the veggies - kale, broccoli, and mushrooms that were so superior. I think the MSG chicken was a little soggy, and a little too salty - not my favorite dish, but I still liked the pushing the envelope flavors with the mushroom, seaweed and garlic (MSG) seasoning. The Tomato Garlic Chow Mein is one of my husband's favorites, but to me, the sauce is a little too saucy for my taste. In the past, we've also ordered the regular beef broccoli, and I have loved that dish too, for the great quality of the beef you can taste. We've also gotten the Jade Fried Rice, which for some reason tastes a little salty too. For that reason I give this restaurant 4 stars, instead of 5 - I still generally really enjoy the food here, except there are few small misses in some of the dishes (very minor, can't say they're BAD dishes per se). Desserts cannot be forgotten about here either - I love the Malted Milk Sundae!!The prices are a little higher than your typical Chinese restaurant, but we always have leftovers, and remind yourself that this isn't a traditional Chinese restaurant, but rather a modern take on Chinese cuisine, from a Michelin-star chef. As a Chinese-American from San Francisco, I do appreciate the unique approach Brandon Jew is trying! Come try a meal here at Mamahuhu's and be prepared to be satisfied.

Such interesting flavors in this more than Chinese take out spot. Today I had done crispy chicken in an unusual but luscious sauce. I can't eat rice so they substituted a double portion of a lovely lotus based kind of slaw. I appreciate the ease of making substitutions and the uniqueness of the offering. Yum.

I've had the pleasure of ordering takeout and dining in. Mamahuhu has been a regular delivery staple in our household for a while now. We were originally introduced to Mamahuhu back in the day when family-style delivery meals were present during shelter-in-place. However, it looks like these package deals have been discontinued. Nonetheless, the robust and flavorful menu lives on. The sweet & sour chicken is a must-try, superstar dish. Broccoli & beef is another star. I always order a crunchy cabbage salad to accompany my main dishes. What's most notable is the consistency here- as mentioned, we have ordered several times and each time we know that our dishes will arrive perfectly packaged, correctly prepared, and tasty.

We went to Mamahuhu's food tent at Hardly Strictly and were impressed! No line around 1:30pm on Sunday of Hardly Strictly. $27.48 for a fried sandwich/garlic fries combo.* Garlic Fried Chicken Sandwich ($18) - 2.5 stars. Dry, small. Incomprehensible fixings.* MSG Garlic Fries ($5 add-on) - 3 stars. Good/ok. The waffle fries were soft on the inside, evenly crisped, but not quite enough crunch for me.

Yum! Mamahuhu has solid Chinese American comfort food is a casual cafe setting. We got the pork mapo tofu and sweet and sour chicken recently and really enjoyed both with some jasmine rice. It can definitely get busy on the weekends so do beware of that but this good spot for a quick meal.

Stopped by for lunch since I had heard good reviews of this place. You order your food at the register and grab a number and a free table. I got the Honey Hawthorne chicken sandwich and my bf got the mushroom mapo tofu entrée. The chicken sandwich, which sounds so good on paper, was very disappointing to me. The pineapple bun was dense and dry and the pineapple topping didn't add anything to the sandwich. The chicken itself was juicy, but the batter was way too thick on the outside. The sweet and sour sauce was so overpowering, it was basically all I could taste in the sandwich. I could see the vision, but the execution was lacking. The mushroom mapo tofu was better. The tofu was soft and silky and the sauce was flavorful but could have been spicier. My bf liked the lotus salad on the side that came with the entrée. The biggest downside was how small the portion size was compared to a normal Chinese restaurant. I think that is my biggest gripe with modernized Chinese food - I can never justify paying a premium for fried chicken and mapo tofu that is smaller in portion and not as good as a local Chinese restaurant. We tried the mango coconut soft serve, which was really banana oat milk soft serve with mango syrup and dried mango and coconut. It was fine, nothing special which really summed up the meal for me.

Mamahuhu is definitely one of my favorite spots for some delicious Chinese-American food! I discovered Mamahuhu by trying the Tomato Garlic Chow Mein at Outside Lands a few years ago. The taste and unique take is something I haven't been able to find anywhere else. I find myself going here often if I am in San Francisco. My only complaint would be to bring back the Tomato Garlic Chow Mein to Outside Lands in 2025! When attending the festival in 2024 I was definitely surprised to see it wasn't on the menu, and instead opted for the Sweet and Sour Chicken which was still delicious. Definitely give this place a try!
