This was the second stop on self guided Mission taqueria crawl, and probably my favorite stop. We ordered one each of the poc-chuc and cochinita panuchos. First bite of the cochinita panucho and I was in heaven. Everything about this dish was perfect. The flavor of the pork, the richness of the beans, the acidity from the onions, the freshness from the cabbage. I truly could not believe how good it tasted. We swapped panuchos and each took a bite of the other, while I also liked the poc-chuc one, the cochinita just couldn't be topped. Lucky for me, my boyfriend liked the poc-chuc better, so we each were able to finish off our favorites. The service here was very friendly. It looked like you were supposed to order at the counter, but we were told to take a seat and quickly brought out menus and drinks. The food was fresh and made to order, so it didn't come up all that fast, but the short wait was worth it for the freshness and flavor of our food. Would absolutely come back here to try more of the menu and especially more of the panuchos.

In any just world, there would be a line out the door of Loltun every day of the week. It's a non descript storefront on an otherwise uninteresting block of Mission St and it may look empty if you walk past it, but trust me, go in. This is the kind of food that makes you happy to be alive. This is the best of the several Mayan-influenced Yucatan Mexican restaurants in the Mission. Classics like poc-chuc and panuchos are spot-on, but they also have some of the best tacos in the neighborhood, stacked high onto hand made tortillas. The soups are excellent too, and there are several types of chicken and pork soups and stews that I haven't seen anywhere else in the city.My single go-to recommendation though is the fried whole fish. The fish balanced against the pickled vegetables on the plate and served with a basket of handmade tortillas is both visual and gastronomic perfection. There must be a wizard of some kind back in the kitchen, but everyone working there is helpful and friendly. There are a couple of waitstaff who don't speak English, but you should take that as a good sign of just how direct of a pipeline this is from the Yucatan to San Francisco!

I stopped by Loltun for a treat after a dentist appointment :) The pork tamale and panucho were delicious! I think some other reviews mentioned poor service but I received fantastic service from the woman working that day.

Goodbye, Tech-eria.Hello, Loltún!I was happy to see Loltún, a new Mayan & Yucatán restaurant take over Mateo's Taqueria (loved by hipsters and techies). Loltún has been open for over two months and there's only 4 reviews - what's up with that?! The food is REALLY good so they deserve more love than they're getting. Loltún is open for takeout, delivery (DoorDash), and indoor dining. I visited after work, a little before 3 pm on a weekday and they were not busy at the time. M E N URegional Mexican: Mayan & Yucatán Cuisine; some popular dishes: Panuchos (fried tortilla stuffed w/ black bean puree), Salbutes (fried tortilla puff tostada), Cochinita Pibil (slow-roasted pork), Poc-Chuc (marinated grilled pork), etc. NO upcharges for DD delivery orders. F O O D* Pork Sabultes: Fried tortilla puff w/ grilled pork, onions, red salsa, cabbage, avocado ($4.50): https://tinyurl.com/mu5yrsv6A popular Yucatán street food, the sabultes is like a tostada with a puffy fried tortilla. The fried tortilla could use more pouf but it was fully loaded. The grilled pork was a tad dry but the black bean purée, salsa roja (mild) and liberal amounts of their house habanero salsa (more tangy than spicy) provided moisture. Lots of satisfying textures and I liked the pickled onions for a pop of acidity. Two is enough for a small meal. * Poc-Chuc: Marinated Pork w/ diced cabbage, avocado, red salsa, radish, beans, rice, handmade tortillas ($16.50): https://tinyurl.com/2ax2s68kA signature Yucatán dish, the Poc-Choc was the highlight of my meal. And, a great price!--Poc-chuc: The thin slices of citrus marinated pork were rice and tender with deliciously smoky charred edges. It reminded me of KBBQ without the sweetness. --Frijoles Colado: The black bean purée was savory, smooth, and comforting. --Rice: Fluffy and nicely separated.--Handmade corn tortillas: Hot, soft, chewy, and pliable. Not too thick. --Accompaniments: Cabbage, radish, cucumber, pickled onions, avocado, and lime were all fresh.I asked for a box for my leftovers and everything was taken away for them to pack. When I opened the box the next day for lunch, I noticed the handmade tortillas were missing. =( S E R V I C ERead reviews on Yelp and elsewhere about how great the service is. Seems like I caught them on an off day because that's not what I experienced. Walked in and was directed to go to the back to order. Placed my order with the cashier who was not friendly (I perused the menu before visiting so I knew exactly what I wanted to order). There was no option to leave a tip on the touchscreen so I asked if I could add a tip. Tipped (30%) and no thank you. I saw a water dispenser with glasses to the side and asked if water was self-serve and he said, "no". No number or placard was given to me so I was confused on how I would retrieve my order. While waiting for my order, two tech bros walk in, are immediately seated, and are given menus. Umm ok, so it's not fast casual after all.My order took a bit long and was staggered; 15 minutes for the salbutes and 25 minutes for the poc-chuc. The food runners were really nice tho!A M B I A N C EBarebones with an open kitchen, communal table seating, and window counter seats. P A R K I N GDifficult street parking.Overall, l really enjoyed the Poc-Chuc and highly recommend this dish when visiting Loltún. Unfortunately, my interaction with the cashier was a turn-off so I can't give 5 stars. The mondongo (Yucatán menudo) is calling my name so will DD it to me next time!

Giant portions, home cooked vibes and mouthwatering presentation. Authentic Mayan food, happy to see a new option similar to Poc-Chuc restaurant nearby. I put the habanero salsa on everything with no regrets. Spacious and clean interior and attentive service!

Delicious sizzling entrees. Large portions, good value. Loved the poc chuc. The meat has a lot of flavor, and the salsa is delicious. Interior vibe is very casual, and I liked the server a lot as he went out of his way to make sure we were happy. They have a TV and play the warriors!

What a gem. Fantastic people! I had a burrito here it was amazing with chip and creamy green salsa. They gave me a bottle of hot sauce and it has a great kick to it. The horchata is one of the best I ever had for a long time. I am coming back again to try their other dishes
