We used to live near the Fillmore/Haight Lo Cost Meat Market, before the landlord raised the rent and chased him out.( Haha, it wasn't rented for a long time.)This butcher is phenomenal! He is so proud of the meat he buys and will answer all your questions. Did it smell like meat? Yes, duh! They were generous cutting off the fat before weighing the meat. Go there to get real meat and poultry at honest prices. So glad I found this, I will drive to this location now that I know where he is.Support small business owners, it is vital to our economy.

My boyfriend has been coming here for about 2 years now. He likes the quality and especially the cuts (no too thick) of the steaks. He also likes the chicken legs. I've enjoyed many of the meals made from the meat purchased here. Our only complaint is how unfriendly the counter staff is...never a "hello" and never a "thank you" or any other gesture. It feels unwelcoming and May even boarder on feeling a bit hostile. It's never a nice experience and TBD if we continue to ship here...which stink b/c the meat is good.

Meat is of good quality, but this place does STINK! I will be honest, every time I walk in here it makes me question myself, "Why do I eat meat!" I guess it's hard when you grow up on it, but the whole thought of eating dead animal it gross........

I have been shopping at this market for several months this year. I am happy with their products. Their prices are good even thought prices have been spiking up recently. My only complain is the attendant at this market. I find him unfriendly and rude. I have finally decided to shop some other place in search of a more pleasant customer experience. Bye, Bye!

I have never had the pleasure of living near a neighborhood butcher. Now, I'm just a few blocks away from the Lo-Cost Carniceria. I'd prefer this place called itself "No Frills" Carniceria, because Lo-Cost seems to say low quality, which it's not. The place isn't not much to look at...it smells like meat, there are a few flies around the door, and they aren't going to put a bow on your roast before putting it in the bag. Who cares. I've bought bacon, chuck roast, and chicken here and been very pleased with all of it. It's an awesome spot to snag larger cuts if you plan on feeding a big group. The guys here are incredibly friendly, and are happy to cut/chop/carve to your liking. Pro tip, don't go here for the first time immediately after watching The Revenant. That was tough. 0__0

Cheaper than Safeway on standard meat and fish cuts, plus some interesting items (feet, tripe, liver, head cheese) that otherwise you'd have to go to a specialty shop and pay $$$ for. I have had good pork chops, very good ground sirloin, and great bacon from here. Place was clean and fly-less when I was here. Smells more or less like what you'd expect for a place that handles meat and fish. P.S. a lot of the comments about "gross" practices describe pretty standard handling of meat... go tour an industrial slaughterhouse before hating on this place.

Cheap. Bacon is $2.99/lb. Skirt Steak is 4.99/lb. I even scored some shrimp for $4.99/lb.If you live near here you should definitely buy meat here. There seafood selection is a bit slim. As for the meats, they carry all the basics. No sausage, however. I don't even think I saw chorizo---weird.

So CHEAP and good quality.Seriously, this is an old school meat market. Don't expect to have fancy pants whole foods/traders/safeway packaging here. The meat comes directly from the ranch and are cut in this shop. I always stop here before I have a big potluck or bbq to prepare for. For $100, I can feed about 20-30 people. What???Get that somewhere else!

Stinky gross. Flies everywhere. Blood and animal fat on the floor and behind the counter. Scary looking meat, bloody giant knives. Yeah, I know it's a butcher, but can't they keep the freaking place clean?Used to buy pork neck bones and chicken backs for a killer gravy (tomato sauce). I figured if I cooked them long enough I'd kill any food borne diseases. Always came out yummy.

What a gem! Super friendly helpful staff. Great meat at low prices. I'm so grateful a place like this still exists. Really makes the street feel like a neighborhood that we have a butcher on the block. And you can grab all your veggies right next door at Casa San Lucas. Highly recommend!
