This place has been around for years but surprisingly, this was my first time here. When you walk in, it gives off the vibe that it used to look like the elegant but homey vibe. It still has the same vibe just a little worn. From the outside it is definitely a hole in the wall, you wouldn't think it was that big from the outside. I think we were one of the first ones here? We were greeted and seated right away. It wasn't too busy when we went but you can see the regulars slowly coming in. We ordered:1. Nilagang bulalo - Hot and fresh for the cold afternoon. It was very meaty and had a variety of vegetables like carrots, potato, and bok choy2. Pork sisig - I'm not sure why I was expecting it to come out sizzling, surprisingly it didn't. After mixing it the flavors were on point. It was the perfect amount of spiciness from the jalapenos, crunch from the onions, and saltiness from the soy sauce. This is one that I highly recommend, maybe even with a fried egg on top or garlic rice. It's also perfect as is with steamed rice. 3. Pinalutong tadyang- I thought this would be crunchy and hard. It was the opposite, it was tender and didn't need much to get it off the bone4. Pancit bihon- I liked there was a lot of noodles and not all vegetables like some places. Service was good, food was delicious, and reasonably priced. A lot cheaper compared to filipino restaurants nearby. It's not bougie, it's home style cooking good ol comfort food. I will be back soon and try their other items. The breakfast plates people were ordering looked delicious and the portions were generous.

Located in downtown San Mateo area. Plenty of parking in back lot which charges less than parking in front. Plenty of seating, separate dining area for medium Sized parties. Celebrated mom's birthday early at 11:30am on a Sunday. We called prior to them opening to rsvp for 10 including a highchair. A few diners inside where we arrived. They were accommodating as we also brought cake. We mostly ordered silogs. Food was good. Quick service by 2 older friendly Titos from Cavitè manning the dining room. Quick refills on water. Would come back again if in area.

Conveniently takes over-the-phone orders, but also has a cute restaurant just enough to sit down in. Located in quaint strip of San Mateo

Zero stars. Horrible experience with disappointing food, considering that my husband and I ordered food to go. The restaurant was completely empty, and we weren't sure if they were even open as it was dark inside. The host appeared to be playing some game on her phone, yet had the audacity to tell me to go behind the podium to pick up our order ourselves. To my surprise, I immediately said, "Excuse me?" She responded with, "You ordered online, right? Your order is ready - you can get it yourself." Never had we experienced such rude customer service elsewhere, especially when no one else was there. Had we known that we were to be treated that way, we would've opted to walk just a few doors down to Isla, where we know the service and food are exceptionally better than Kuya's. We'll never come back here ever again.

We had a feast here... the server said the food we ordered is good enough for 15 people and its just the 3 of us. Taste: the crispy tadyang hit the spot & the fried fish. I find everything else salty to my taste, but the portions are undeniably big. When we went here, there was a family who are eating & there are people who come and go for their takeout. All I can say is the food is affordable & I like the servers- they are helpful and attentive

Good food great service and clean restaurant. We use to buy food next door to ISLA but no more ISLA made it to a point that they will not serve us silogs after lunch working at SFO food expensive we rely on neighborhood restaurants ISLA has a problem with SFO workers coming in with our uniforms but now we have Kuya who doesn't discriminate who buys their food. Kuya is great!

The pansit we ordered was fine. We opened the container and it had like a soy sauce sabaw. ( sauce) nowhere was the eggplant and bagoong - which is shrimp paste. I don't understand. Then when I went to pick up the food the lady repeats my order to confirm. This is not what I ordered. It's not crispy binagoongan.

Ordered Bansilog, Palabok and bbq chicken skewers. What a rip off! The bangus wasn't even a half a fish. It was barely enough fish for 4 bites of food and I barely eat! The palabok was also very dry with barely any sauce. Dry and overcooked shrimp. Very disappointing. I am writing this review to remind myself to never order from here again.
