Kippu Japanese Cuisine

Placed an order to eat outside since I had a dog with me. The server brought out the miso soup, and a bowl of water for my dog. So nice of her. Next came my sushi order, and then my order of gyoza. Everything came out really fast. Super delicious. Everyone was so nice.

Came here on a Sunday evening and got to sit right away. The bento overall was good. The California roll (4/5) was made really well and was my favorite out of everything. The chicken teriyaki (3/5) was cooked well but I would prefer the sauce to be sweeter.The dragon roll (3/5) was just all right. It barely had any avocado and the unagi sauce was pretty liquidy.

ONLY GIVING ONE STAR BECAUSE YELP REQUIRES IT. If you're looking for an enjoyable and relaxing dining experience, Kippu is not the place. My friend and I used to love coming here, traveling all the way from San Pablo to enjoy lunch. Unfortunately, after our most recent visit, we've decided--never again.From the moment we walked in, we felt rushed. The waitress barely gave us a moment to settle before dropping the menus and immediately asking if we were ready to order. We hadn't even been seated for 15 minutes when she came back to clear our plates, drop off the check, and linger around the table, clearly waiting for us to pay and leave.Feeling unwelcome, we gathered our things and stood up to leave. That's when the owner approached us, telling us they needed our table for a large group and asking us to go. It felt unnecessary and disrespectful--especially since we noticed several open tables as we walked out.This experience was humiliating and disappointing, making us feel like we were being shoved out the door. If you value a relaxing meal where you're treated with respect, I'd recommend finding another spot. We certainly will.

I stopped in here on a Sunday for lunch with a couple of friends. We each ordered a bento box with beef teriyaki, sashimi, and a California roll. I found the food to be just alright, it lacked flavor overall and my beef teriyaki was lukewarm. I wouldn't return.

Food - ordered the bento box (they only have dinner prices for weekends). i ordered the bento box with chicken teriyaki, California roll and sashimi.sashimi was good - pretty fresh. California roll and chicken teriyaki was pretty standard. I did not like their salad, the greens were super bitter!Service - could've been a lot better. felt understaffed with only one person. had to flag them down to order. food came pretty quick, but also had to flag them down again to get the check / boxes and had to essentially keep flagging them down anytime you needed them. Also, on our way out, we had a stroller and had to carry it up the stairs (not ADA friendly) and the waiter was rushing to serve food outside and kinda just squeezed by us while we were trying to get the stroller up - felt like they could've just waited another few seconds for us to safely get the stroller up before squeezing through to deliver their food.Ambiance - interior felt super warm and stuffy; a little uncomfortable. wish they had a window open or a fan or A/C.

A couple of tourists from Hawaii and our first stop is....Japantown?! LOL. Well, when you get off a 5am flight, slept through breakfast on the plane, and you're hAngry, your stomach sticks to what it knows. Strangely enough, with my usual diet being ramen almost daily, I was surprised to find myself not wanting ramen. Kippu was one of the restaurants that didn't boast ramen being the main dishes they sell and I was very satisfied with my breakfast replacement/late lunch/early dinner.After I sat down, I noticed some past reviews suggesting subpar service. We visited during a quiet lunch/early dinner time with only a few other tables occupied, and the service we received was excellent. The staff were attentive and friendly. The ambiance is cozy and casual, making it a perfect spot for both casual meals and special occasions. I also really LOVED the art on the walls!My husband and I ordered the bento sets, and our friend ordered one roll. Those sets were a wonderfully balanced meal with great portions to match the price. The sushi rolls and sashimi were the perfect start for our first meal off the plane. The teriyaki and tempura offered a filling meal while the salad helped balance out the richness of the food. Kippu is definitely a go-to in Japantown if you're looking for something light and refreshing with good service and cozy dining.

We have been there 4 times with my husband, as we liked the food and the ladies were very nice. But yesterday - we were almost ready to leave and we were finishing our hot sake and beer (large).. still had half each - and we were literally kicked out by the older Asian server! He took my box - that I JUST finished eating a second ago, and said "are you done?? I have people waiting for a table" (was only ONE very young couple waiting and the lady near us just left - so he could sit them at her table?). I said - "we are finishing our drinks..." and he yelled to the couple that was waiting: "2 minutes!!"??? I was like WOW LOLSo we literally had to chuck the rest of the drinks and left. How sad that food is good but he just can't treat the customers right?

I was craving some sushi and since I live right near japantown I decided to look for a place i haven't tried. I'm so glad I found this place. The service is amazing and fast. The rolls you get are very fresh and packed with yummy fish. We sat outside since it was a beautiful warm day. I definitely recommend this place. And I will definitely come back again to try some more rolls.

I used to like this place several years ago. Decided to take my girlfriend here after a movie. Tonight was one of the coldest of the year at 46f. When we arrived, we both were cold and noticed that both front doors were wide open. I asked the server to please close the doors. She asked her manager who said no. What?4 other customers, seated, dressed in full coats, were also cold and asked to be moved farther away from the doors where we were: it was cold there, too.I was very upset at the manager's lack of any awareness and how very cold it was for customers. We got sushi to go, to escape the 46f restaurant. Once home, after all the poor customer service, our sushi rolls were very average. NEVER going back! Thank you for ruining a very nice evening out...
