The food took very long. We got in there around dinner 6pm but the food didn't come out until 7pm. We ordered the food as round 6:15 pm. And the food didn't come out until 45 mins later. There was only 2 table at the time. The waitress was very nice and apologizing for the long wait. But I felt the food took too long.

Local Japanese spot- that is an absolute gem. Nigiri had a huge portion of fish. The sushi rice was just the rice texture and flavor. Their gyoza was really good too! Lots of filling, thin skin and pan fried to perfection! Not your typical store bought ones.

Delicious. Friendly service. I will definitely return here to try more. Try the miso soup...best I've had anywhere and made fresh in house daily.

Local Pacifica joint with authentic Japanese food! Entrees pricier than other local Japanese restaurants but you get better quality and a good portion. Located tucked behind the Pacifica Community Center and open for dinner. Small business--saw a sign out the door to call for reservations since they can be short staffed. However, they were nice enough to seat us, giving us a heads up food wait would be a little long (and it wasn't). Seating is comfy too. Love their hot tea (combo of matcha, brown rice). App and Sushi prices were pretty comparable to other restaurants ($4+ for nigiri; $10-$20 for apps and specialty rolls) and they use actual Japanese rice. Entrees are pricier ($35-40) but pretty generous in addition to including miso soup, salad, rice. Miso soup was better than other restaurants--waiter was gracious enough to give all 3 of us soup though only one of us got an entree. Even the salad included was thoughtful and pretty in presentation, with a light dressing that tasted similar to what you get in seaweed salad.Highlights:Agedashi tofu app: Light fry with a clean slightly-salty broth and fresh green onions. Yum! Soft Shell Crab app: Lightly breaded and fried perfectly, still juicy in the centerSushi Moriawase Deluxe: 9 pieces of nigiri + a chef special roll of their choice. Nice sampler! Fresh salmon nigiri: Fresh and fatty salmon; a textbook salmon nigiri with good riceTamago nigiri: They make their own egg :) Will get more next time to try and make a reservation in case :)

Lovely, genuine customer service. This mom and pop is run by a woman who has been in Pacifica since '69 and officially started this restaurant in '93. Quality assortment of rolls and plating. The tea mugs had a crab on the bottom of the inside of the cup and on the outside. Very Pacifica!Hot Sake came in the bucket of boiled water since it was a cold day. It's a smaller restaurant but the intimate feel added to the authentic experience.Support Local Pacifica

Ok I bought the idea that I had to make a reservation often days in advance. Too many times of poor service so I will not return.

We have been coming to Kani Kosen for years and have never been disappointed. I always have the Ahi sashimi, a great bowl of miso soup, and a side of great sticky rice. We absolutely love the edame beans that are always brought to the table right away, with some warm sake. My hubby always has the combo of sashimi, teriyaki steak and tempura, which comes with the miso soup and sticky rice. His plate is so full that I always score a few of his tempura. Hubby says that the steak is always perfect. We are never rushed - we are always there for at least an hour and a half. Kani Kosen is in our regular rotation for Sunday date night!
