The restaurant vibe was one of those with barely any lighting which wasn't a problem for me until the table next to me started accidentally flashing me with their phone's flash light in order to see the menu. The servers were all very nice and constantly checked up on the table. Order: Vegan scallop $16.00-this was soooo good, the sauce and the "scallop" ( probably mushroom) were addicting. I just wish there was more Always sunny roll $20.00Well seasoned, no soy sauce really needed, great for salmon super lovers Kabocha roll $16.00I was surprised that it was made with pumpkin. It tasted so good it was well seasoned. It felt light and healthy and I definitely wanted another one or at least to try another vegetarian dish since this one was so delicious and creative. All the food was really good but the price did hurt the wallet a bit.

Came here on a Friday night with no reservation and luckily we got a seat outside. This was my first time at Kaiyo and everything was amazing. We had two roles that were so good. One had unit on top with coconut rice I believe. Very delicious. We also had the Kaiyo roll. The jalepeno gave it a nice kick to everything. The drinks here are amazing. I think you can go wrong with anything on their menu!

I came here for dinner with my friend a few weeks ago and overall had a good experience. We tried a wide assortment of dishes, including the Karaage Pollo, Wagyu Toast, Ceviche Clasico, Scallop Tiradito, Lima Roll, and the Ube-Mochi Cake for dessert. My favorites were the Ceviche Clasico and Scallop Tiradito; they used fresh white fish/scallop and the flavors were strong but refreshing. The Wagyu Toast was quite decadent (wagyu blend with kaluga caviar) but a bit too salty for my liking (i.e., worth a try but unlikely to order again). The Lima Roll was standard (nothing special), and the Karaage was below average (chicken was quite dry). Finally, the ube-mochi cake was good - the texture was excellent (nice and chewy) and they did a nice job highlighting the ube flavors. Service was friendly and efficient, and the interior is modern and clean. Overall glad I gave them a try - would consider going back (especially to their rooftop location!)

My friend and I came here on a Saturday night to celebrate her birthday! Our reservation was for 6pm. Because it was an eventful Saturday night, I didn't want to be late and arrived early in case parking was a mess. Luckily, the restaurant was still empty when I arrived and they were able to seat me 20 minutes early.I ordered the sailor Pluto Pisco sour (delicious), while I perused the menu and waited for my friend. Once she arrived, she ordered the Koro's big day out, which was apparently sold out, so she switched to the pom koto (which was so good that I ordered it as my second drink). The waitress then returned and we placed the rest of our order. Oddly, my friend's drink took forever. The restaurant was barely half full, but it took about 15 minutes for her drink to arrive. As far as food, we had the following:*Black cod - this was by far my favorite dish! It was perfect!*Scallop Tiradito - this was also delicious, and had a really lovely sauce and overall texture to it*Kaiyo roll - this was fine, though nothing super memorable*Curry clam udon - I was really excited about this because I love udon, and clams and figured curry would be a nice twist. This ended up being my least favorite dish as the curry just tasted weird to me, but I think it's more my palate. One thing I'd note is that we had a small two-top table, and the food wasn't timed well - i.e. the dishes just kept coming out despite us not having space on our table. It all felt really rushed. In fact, at 7:10pm (so 70 minutes into our reservation) and while we were still working on a couple of the dishes, our waitress came by to tell us that if we wanted any more food or dessert, we should order it now and that she had someone slated for a 7:30 reservation. I went back and looked, and checked Resy and nowhere does it say anything about a 90 minute limit. If it had, we wouldn't have come here because we wanted to catch up and celebrate without being rushed. I fully understand that some places, especially since the pandemic, have implemented time limits, but maybe tell people? Either put it on your website, on Resy, or at least tell people when they come into the restaurant.Anyways, we tried to place an order for dessert, but the one we wanted was sold out. So the waitress brought us the matcha custard (the waitress said she'd bring their normal bday dessert). My friend and I were pleasantly surprised because I hate matcha and she hates custard, so we would have never ordered it! But it was less custardy and more solid, and the matcha was very faint. So, what I'm saying is, if you like custard or matcha, don't get this! The waitress told us we had a bit more time as the two-top next to us left, but we opted to close out and move to the bar for one more drink so we wouldn't have to deal with her continued pestering. So overall, there are some really good dishes on this menu and I liked the drinks. But the service left so much to be desired that I'm having a hard time getting over that!

I went here with my fiancé for dinner before a Giants game. I couldn't get one at the rooftop spot (it's right across from Oracle Park).I was intrigued because of the numerous vegan/vegetarian options and fusion of Peruvian and Japanese cuisine so wanted to try it.The drinks were amazing 10/10!! I got the Pisco Sour & he got the Space Adventure Cobra We ordered 1 each of the vegan nigiri. My favorite was the Singo Pear nigiri. We also got the vegan scallop shareable app which I think wasn't as big as I thought to be "shareable" (three "scallops") but it was still delicious! Then we each got a sushi roll. I had the Nasamurai roll and he got the Cow Hollow. Both good.I'd probably go again to get the other rolls but I do love how creative they are with the vegan/vegetarian options!

It's one of those higher end fusion japanese places and so not my usual dinner choice but definitely a good treat. The scallops were delicious, tender and light. it had a nice bite to it and the whole dish was pretty acidic and tangy. The nigiri was also high quality and seemed fresh. I sat at the bar and service was pretty standard. The ambiance is moody lighting and good talking volume.

KAIYO is so cute!! They wanted to try this place out and I'm always down for new food spots. Enjoyed some food before exploring San Francisco and wow. I heard of this place before as they have a rooftop bar that I've been meaning to check out closer to downtown sf. There were outdoor and indoor seating but we opted to sit outdoor to people watch and chat. I do want to come back and enjoy the indoor seating or bar since it was so romantic.

Absolutely delicious! Seriously took me back to Lima with this Nikkei experience - which is the name for the beautiful fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisines. We each got the prix -fixe menu for V-day.In addition we got the trio ceviche, wow! Tasted just like Lima.-Clasico ceviche- perfection - hamachi-ceviche Nikkei- wow also perfect - blue fin tuna-scallop ceviche with squid ink - okay was really looking forward to the scallops but wasn't nearly as good as the other two.The Branzino was okay, had better at Jo's modern Thai and Abstract tableIn terms of drinks, we had the Maracuya pisco sour and it was delightful. I accidentally spilled mine, and they still charged me for two.... until my boyfriend told them something. They eventually took the one that spilled off the bill- which I know was generous. They could've told me, "darn but I have to charge you for another one" to be clear.Wish we could have enjoyed the ambiance inside, maybe next time!

We came on a Saturday evening for dinner without a reservation, and there was only a janky outdoor table or the bar as seating options. I recommend making a reservation ahead of time for the weekend, event though earlier that day we had checked and all of the reservation times were available. We first decided on the outdoor sidewalk table but then quickly changed our mind in favor of the bar instead, and that's when the hostess mistakenly called my 23 year old, 5 foot tall friend a MINOR (lol.) After swiftly clearing that up, we were allowed to sit at the bar and were taken good care of by the bartender who helped us place our drink and food orders. Unfortunately though, that interaction with the hostess really embarrassed my friend, but I understand there were no bad intentions from her. The restaurant was lively and energetic, and it seemed like everyone was having a good time. It was the holiday season when we went, so we ordered the Papa Noel and Sugar Plums Dancing cocktails from the seasonal drink menu. The Papa Noel drink tasted like swiss miss hot chocolate with mostly just rum and was difficult to finish, but I appreciated the warmth of the drink. We started with the wagyu toast (which we stupidly realized was raw only until after it came out.) I'm quite averse to raw meat but tried it anyway. While I can say the flavors were interesting, it wasn't palatable for me (and was kind of overpriced.) The salmon ceviche was uninspiring - I've had better ceviche elsewhere. The one standout of the food was the tender and juicy braised short rib, which was DELICIOUS. The portion size included a lot of meat, satisfying our carnivorous tendencies.Overall, I could see this spot as a nice place for drinks and Japanese Peruvian bites. Maybe it was just the time we went, but also seemed to be an ideal date spot for a sugar daddy type relationship (no judgment here, just kind of interesting to sit next to at the bar.) Despite the mediocre experience at this location, I'm still eager to try the rooftop!

Really cool spot in San Francisco. Have a couple locations and I heard their rooftop location is awesome. But this spot is cool too. We had the Dragaon, Rainbow and PAC Heights Rolls for apps as well as the Veggie Gyoza. All were amazing especially the Gyoza. Had the Braised Short Rib for my main which was fall off the bone amazing. Service was super friendly, a bit slow but super nice. Reason I didn't give it 5 is because when. I see the word Peruvian, I'm expecting more Peruvian. I know it's a fusion but Peruvian is one of my favorite cuisines so I just had more traditional Peruvian takes. But a really good spot and I'll for sure go back.
