My friends and I walked here from Pier 39. We definitely worked up an appetite, considering we literally ate like 2 hours prior. I ordered a "personal" sausage and shrooms ($14) which has 2 slices of Detroit style pizza. Honestly so worth it. They make everything here fresh and crispy cheesey edge piece is to die for! The soft, spongey focaccia bread and meaty marinara sauce was a satisfying meal. I was raving it to my friends that we had to stop by here and I'm so glad they went along with it. Service was polite. There was a bit of a wait tho. Lots of indoor and seating. All in all, I would definitely come back!

My conversation: me: can a get a slice of A and B? Him: 30$. Me: Oh, just a slice of A. Him: We don't have a slice of A. Just a personal. Me: ...? But you just said... How do I know which ones you have slices for?Him: ....Me: ok, personal of A

We generally end up staying at the Ferry Building for lunch, but we saw Joyride down the street and thought, why not? (Of course, after checking Yelp). I got the #8 "Satisfying Sausage and 'Shrooms" which had sausage, black olives and mushrooms. The pizzas come in three different sizes - slice, personal and large. I wanted a slice, but #8 doesn't come in individual slices, so I got the personal (which is the equivalent to two slices). The pizza was delicious with crispy, crunchy edges and the dough seemed relatively light for the typically dense Detroit pizza. We also ordered a Caesar salad which paled in comparison to the pizza. It's a great spot to dine out with friends since everybody can get what they want. Indoor seating is relatively limited, and the tables are fixed in place. I believe there is only one four-person table, 4-5 two-person tables and bar seating, so it's not a great spot for a large group. There are many tables outdoors which I think are for general use (not just for Joyride) and there are many four-person tables, but it can get windy (and you might risk having your food snatched by a seagull).

Distinctive Detroit-Style Pizza at Joy Ride PizzaJoyride Pizza, a Detroit-style pizza restaurant in San Francisco, is expanding quickly. Over the last few years, they have opened several new locations. According to their website, they now have seven locations in San Francisco.I tried their pizza for the first time today and found it unique and tasty. I had been walking by their Pier 1 Embarcadero location for a couple of months but never had a chance to walk in and try their food. I tried their thin-crust Greek and cheese pizzas. This location is great! It is right there by the water and next to the Ferry Building. It is cozy and convenient for those who work within walking distance from the Financial District. The young people who work there are very nice and accommodating.I was planning to take my pizza to go, but after ordering the food, I changed my mind and decided to have it sitting by the counter. While my food was getting ready, I started reading about how the founders succeeded in growing the business fast despite the challenges of the pandemic. The Jacobs brothers specialize in Detroit-style pizza, known for its rectangular shape, thick crust, and caramelized edges. They have operated Samovar Tea Lounges since 2002 and had to change their business model when the pandemic severely impacted their tea business. Inspired by a friend opening a pizza shop, they converted their Valencia Street tea lounge into the first Joyride Pizza location in 2021. With Alastair Hannmann, formerly of Tony's Pizza, they began selling Detroit-style pizza.Their pizzas are visually appealing, with toppings like ricotta, arugula, and pesto. If I had to make one criticism, it would be that they are slightly too salty. Other than that, they are delicious.

The holidays are here and the City is alive with December spirit! Over the weekend we went to the Ferry building on Saturday for the Farmer's Market and took note of a few new vendor/restaurant openings within and surrounding the building..one of those being Joyride Pizza!Wanting to introduce Detroit Style pizza to my family and grab a snack before heading to Union Square, we ordered a few slices and a few beers on-tap: cheese (topped with a strip of house made Marina), the Sweet Bianca (essentially a cheese slicetopped with a dollop of ricotta and fig jam), and the Satisfying Sausage & Shrooms (this one you have to order as 2-slices). Looks like outside of their menu you can also build-your-own and they do offer gluten-free, dairy-free, plant-based options as well. Slices are a bit more pricey than I'm used to, but I figured crossing the bridge would mean opening the wallet a bit more for afternoon yummies and quality toppings.I've had Joyride before at Gilman Brewing in Berkeley, but haven't been to their own brick-and-mortar until this moment. Love how the windows are panned with beautiful slices almost like a candy store for outside traffic, just a fresh pizza version for City travelers :)Great staff, fun ambience, I think I'm just more of a traditional, NY slice kinda gal. Slices were light and airy, family loved trying something new and being East Coasters themselves, now have something to write home about. All in all I would stop by again and maybe try a few other fun toppings from the menu.*While waiting for the slices, we read a "Pizza Knowledge" sign that mentioned how Detroit Style Pizza was originally made. Zoom in on photo for all the deets*

Detroit style pizza. They sell slices and pies all square. They have some interesting combinations but I went for the pepperoni. It was a pretty good pizza and the service was casual and good.

Wow! The slices look mouth watering from the window. I saw they have a spot here and another in the Mission. Detroit style pizza and some interesting options! The prices are not cheap, plus you have to get two slices essentially for some flavors. The staff was super helpful, especially when I struggled with the order kiosk. Thanks! Soooo good, the slices were delicious and exceeded expectations. Other than my pepperoni slices being a little on the cold side, I was pleased. Sweet Bianca was magical. Sweet heat pineapple was pretty darn good! Expensive, but delicious.

I'm no stranger to Joyride, having frequented 3 of their other locations. I was initially all about the simple cheese or pepperoni, but I've started exploring their more creative options. At this location, I've been dabbling into several flavors only available as whole pies. Garlic Knots: Loved that they gave such a huge container of sauce. I was able to pick apart each knot and load it up with that delicious tomato goodness. The knots themselves felt fluffier than regular garlic knots, probably because the dough here is fluffier than regular pizza. I liked the browned garlic used instead of raw garlic, for a deeper flavor without the raw tang. Nice thin layer of melted parmesan on top.Supreme: I guess there is a thing as too much meat! All of it is tasty in its own right, but it's so overloaded you end up tasting more meat than pizza. Plus it feels very sodium heavy, since I was super thirsty an hour or so later, which doesn't happen with their other flavors. Smokin' Hot Mother Clucker BBQ: Probably my favorite of the whole pizza only flavors. Loved the tang of the BBQ sauce with the hot peppers and the red onions. Not a configuration I would have figured out together myself, so I'm thankful for their creativity.Greek: Despite all the toppings, tasted a bit mild. I liked the dorati tomatoes, since they were somewhere between fresh and sundried. But I kinda wonder if actual tomato sauce would have been good too. The artichoke hearts added a nice pickled taste, though some were a bit too fibrous. Olives were a good contrast to the feta.Ocean Beach: Maybe it's my Connecticut roots, but I like clam on pizza. So this was probably my second favorite of the whole pizza flavors. Lots of clam pieces and the dorati tomatoes added just enough tomato flavor. The capers were interesting, not something I normally see on clam pizza, but added a briny contrast. Only thing missing is maybe more garlic?Green Goddess: Mild tasting and herbal. I do like the mix of ricotta mounds with the pesto drizzle and the little pickled peppers. The arugula is kinda meh though. I feel like if I'm gonna go for a veggie pizza, this is about as far as I want to go.Sweet Pineapple Heat: Not a fan, despite the hype. There was too much pineapple making it too sweet, without the reliable salty ham to offset that. Also, it wasn't all that hot and the semi-cooked jalapeños didn't quiet work texture wise.Soft Serve with Chocolate Chip Blondie Crumble: The crumble is a bit oversold. It's more like tiny crumbs and there's not much except for a random walnut piece here and there. The vanilla soft serve is pretty basic. Guess it's better to stick with their specialty here, pizza.

Thank the pizza Gods for pleasant surprises! One of my favorite Detroit-style pizza spots in SF recently opened up their latest location at Pier 1 near the Ferry Plaza. This may be the 7th or 8th location. Taking the place of the old Starbucks that was across from Gott's in the Ferry Building, Joyride brings much needed pizza joy to the Embarcadero in a convenient and tasty way.Detroit style pizza is a must-try; the foundation of its flavor is the crust, which boasts a beguiling combination of textures. For instance, it's thick and airy on the inside, yet strikingly crispy on the outside, the crust is a canvas of contradictions that play together beautifully. This tantalizing juxtaposition is achieved by baking the dough in a seasoned, rectangular steel pan, often borrowed from the auto industry, which imparts a singular, caramelized edge to the pizza. On this remarkable, pillowy, base is layered a generous amount of cheese, often a blend of Wisconsin brick cheese that extends to the edges, creating an irresistible halo of crispy, cheesy goodness. As the cheese melts and bubbles, it cascades over the sides, forming a crunchy, golden-brown perimeter that is a hallmark of Detroit-style pizza. Now, this style is very caloric and it's very difficult to eat a whole Detroit style pizza alone (I've tried). But, it's amazing and Joyride does some of the best in SF. This location is so convenient to everything (BART, Ferry Plaza, Market st) and has convenient ordering at a kiosk. You place your order, take a pager, and eagerly await your pie. They have filtered water and bathrooms. Seating is a bit limited and I suspect that once people realize this is here, it might be more crowded!

Detroit Style Pizza made with organic yecora rojo flour and creative local toppings. The on-trend pizza in SF these days is the Detroit Style pizza that owes its rectangular shape to the oil pans used in the automotive industry.A decendent of the Sicilian pizza the focaccia crust is crispy around the edge and airy inside which makes for a crust with a lot of heft.Joyride takes advantage of this with a creative menu of generous weighty toppings. My favorite is "Eat Your Veggies". Brussels sprouts, crimini mushrooms, black olives, dorati tomatoes, red onion, mozzarella & brick cheese, topped with fresh basil layered on a nicely cheese crusted focaccia style bread.I also like the "Garden Goddess" topped with a good portion of arugula, ricotta, sweetie drops, pesto, black olives, red onion, cracked black pepper, mozzarella & brick cheese. You can add or swap a number plant based "meats" or vegan cheese, if you are a veggie eater. On a sunny day you can hangout with your squares on picnic tables located on deck outside.Imagine peering out on the water, experiencing a San Francisco version of "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay" - and watching the tide roll away!
