This place is great if the tall guy is working. If Ron is working, check your change because he's ripped me off $$$ several times as recent as today where I had to demand my change back from a $20.

Mediocre stuff with nothing special. Feels like a pit stop type of place. There's more drinks than anything else in this store. The employee who was working there at the time was very passive and rude. Wouldn't recommend.

My friend and I came by after eating at Hot Sauce and Panko across the street. We went into J&H Grocery because we had some extra trash we needed to throw out and we wanted to buy snacks and drinks. Upon putting our trash in their trash can, the employee behind the counter yelled at us to tell us not to put our trash in his bin. We immediately took it out saying "sorry we didn't know," and the employee says "why don't you take your trash and throw it in the Chinese people's face," while pointing across the street to the beloved Asian fusion chicken restaurant, Hot Sauce and Panko. He repeated this several times while rushing us out of the door. My friend and I were shocked and confused by his racist remarks and extremely rude attitude towards us. We decided to go to Hyde & Pacific Liquors a block down the street and enjoyed the much more pleasant service and wider selection of food and drinks to enjoy. The other reviews of J & H echo the same pattern of rudeness towards customers. Do yourself a favor and skip this corner store on your next quest for snacks, drinks and other essentials and pay the much more friendly and non racially charged corner store a visit.

Please do not shop here. Just like the other reviews the employees are very rude and lazy. They overcharge on everything and some of their items are expired. The Tobacco products are all damaged. I have lived in Nob Hill for years and really never had a good experience at this place and will not be back. Please walk to Nob Hill Liquors to make purchases. Do not shop here.

This is a convenient corner store! It has many grocery and household items, but the convenience comes at a cost. The prices are high! I noticed the cost of ice cream is especially high! It does have reasonably priced wine though. This store is incredibly useful though if you live in the area and you're in a bind --- like you ran out of toilet paper, an item you need while cooking, or you need some more drinks for your party.During the high Mega Millions lottery, I bought a lotto ticket here like everyone else. It was quick and easy! This is an incredibly useful store for necessities and a nice location for those in the neighborhood, but I only come here if I absolutely need something and can't go anywhere cheaper.

One of my favorite parts of my current apartment is it's proximity to J & H. Great neighborhood corner store that carries all of the necessities (and then some). Open late (especially by SF standards) & kind staff. A bit overpriced, but you're paying for the convenience. Also- be sure to check the expiration date on your food items... I've come across a couple of things that are expired, so it never hurts to double-check!!

Do most of my grocery shopping here. Yes that's right I do grocery shopping at a liquor store. WHAT?! I love this place. Its right next to my house. The staff is so friendly and happy all the time. When I moved to the hood there was a guy there everyday who wore a cowboy hat (every day) and talked to me about raves. He always had techno or 92.7 on. Then one day he disappeared. And he hasn't been back? Where did he go?Everyone else is still awesome and don't judge me for buying peanut butter a few times a week. I love you J&H!

If you've lived on Russian Hill for a long time, you'll remember Peter and Angela, who ran the store for years and years before the new guys remodeled and very much upgraded it. You'll also remember that Nook used to be this awesomely ghetto tiny video store with moody, angst-ridden employees. But I digress. Yes, Fallopian, this is technically Nob Hill, but everyone still considers this corner Russian Hill. Anyway, If you live within a block or two of here, this is your store. The owner and the young guys he hires are always super friendly. The young guys are usually new to the country and struggling to get by, but just stoked to be there nonetheless. Yes, the beer is marked up an additional $1 over the usual SF markup. However, this corner market is a neighborhood institution. Come in there more than once a week and they will know you by name. As mentioned, a good wine selection for a small corner market, and they always have a a few wines for well under $10 that are totally drinkable.

The store owners are extremely rude and unprofessional. Walked into his store with the intention of shopping, but we were rudely screamed at when we tried a throw away some trash away in the store's trash bin. The owners shouted at us, telling us to get out of their store and throw the trash in the "Chinese guy's face" instead. We apologized and removed our trash from their bin, but the owner continued to rush us out and say racially-charged things towards us. We literally tried to throw our trash away and were verbally attacked by the owners. We left so confused. Not sure if the owners are racist or have something against Chinese people, but we won't be coming here again and neither should you. There's a corner store down the street that we went to instead, which had friendly owners unlike J&H.
