I came here for their special $40 lunch tasting course menu to celebrate my cousin's birthday. We ordered one of each set (seafood, beef, and pork) and everything was delicious. My favorite dishes were the scallop starter dish, the pork jowl, and the shrimp with mango salad. Note that some dishes are slightly spicy. The spice was ok for me but I heard a couple diners at the neighboring tables mention that it was too spicy for them. Also appreciated that they provided a birthday dessert for my cousin. They got very busy by the second half of our lunch but the waitstaff was still very attentive and friendly. I think this was a great place for a special lunch and would definitely come back.

An exquisite $40 lunch tasting menu at Hed 11 , featuring beautifully curated courses that cater to all palates. Located in the San Francisco's Japantown, this Michelin guide restaurant offers an unparalleled dining experience with options from beef, pork, seafood to vegan. Pork Set: Begin with a tantalizing Grilled Hokkaido Scallop served over rice noodles, bathed in a rich coconut curry. Follow up with a zesty Grilled Pork Jaw in Spicy Salad, then dive into the depths of flavor with a Pork Rib in Spicy and Sour Soup. Round off your meal with a Thai Style Papaya Salad with Strawberry, and finish with a delicate Thai Style Cheese Cake infused with Red Onion and Passion Fruit Purée. Seafood Set: Kick off with the same succulent Grilled Hokkaido Scallop, followed by a refreshing Shrimp Salad dressed with Chili Jam and Lemongrass. Savor the Poached Grouper in a Spicy Mushroom Soup, and Sauteéd Cabbage with Pork Crackling. Conclude your feast with the same vibrant dessert as the pork set. Cocktails: Elevate your meal with unique cocktails. I love the 'Pineapple Cheese Pie' - a creative blend of rum, vanilla, pineapple, topped with yogurt foam and popcorn for a playful twist. Or refresh with 'Mae Mali', a fragrant mix of kaffir lime and jasmine syrup with rum, offering a taste of Thailand's aromatic essence.I enjoyed the culinary journey that blends traditional Thai flavors with modern culinary artistry, all in the sophisticated setting of Hed 11. Whether you're a meat lover, seafood enthusiast, or a vegan, they have something special for everyone.

Delicious flavors, unique presentations, and creativity. Highly recommend this tasting menu, which changes roughly every two months. Comparing to other michelin stars like Khin Khao, I have to say the taste here is better. It's an 11-course menu but 6 courses are part of the "main" and come at once. Each dish was well crafted. My favourite was that they didn't shy away from spice, though I have to say I'm not sure that many could handle it! Everything was a hit but for me the highlights were the papaya salad with scallop, the shrimp and the banana dessert. The one dish, curry chicken in banana leaf was slightly bland. Anyway, try it out! You won't regret it.

A Southern Thai Culinary Journey at Hed11O R D E R E D * 11 course menu for 2 peopleV E R D I C TDining at Hed11 was such a unique experience--it's not the same as its sister location, Hed Very Thai, even though they share a connection. While Hed Very Thai offers a more casual, lively vibe, Hed11 feels cozier and a touch more upscale. You don't have to dress up (unless you want to), but the setting, tucked inside the Kimpton Hotel Enso, definitely sets the mood for a special night out.A heads-up on parking: the hotel lot is convenient but can feel a bit pricey. I'd recommend doing what I did--park on Sutter Street or at the Japantown Center parking lot and enjoy a short walk over. Now, let's talk about the star of the show: the eleven-course menu. Every dish took me on an underwater adventure for my taste buds, with a clear focus on the southern region of Thailand and incredibly fresh seafood. Each course felt intentional, balanced, and bursting with flavor. A quick tip--one or two dishes pack a spicy kick, so be prepared! I didn't have one specific dish that was my ultimate favorite but know this, I also didn't have a least favorite dish either. From start to finish, the food was phenomenal, the service was attentive without being overbearing, and the ambiance was warm, cozy, and slightly romantic. This is the kind of place I'd return to for a special occasion or, let's be honest, after a hefty payday--totally worth it!Highly recommend if you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience.

Celebrated Valentine's Day one weekend early since I'm going off to a bachelorette this weekend. Parking was rough in the Japan town garage which is one way...so unfortunately we were 15 minutes late. They gave our table to a party of walk-ins but I understand. We were seated 15 minutes later. I ordered the beef while my partner got the pork. The appetizer with scallop was perfectly cooked, moist, juicy, but still charred. There could have been a higher ratio of curry to rice noodle. I also wasn't a huge fan of washing down the already barely there curry flavor with more lime, so I should have used less. The pork rib soup warmed our souls. My beef entree was alright, tasted sort of like bun thit nuong, but some pieces of meat I couldn't chew and had to spit it out. The cabbage stir fry though had so much umami it made my order worth it - I've never had anything like it. My partner got the pork specifically for the pork jowl, which was tender and tangy. You could tell a lot of preparation went into it. His papaya salad was standard and nothing special though. I would also note they gave a LOT of rice. Noticing my partners progress on the rice, the server asked multiple times if we were doing alright with the spiciness. I personally didn't think it was too spicy, but she gifted him homemade condensed milk. Great service on her part to notice him struggling. Cute cheesecake treat at the end. For $40 for a 5 course lunch experience, I definitely recommend!

Overall very solid restaurant. A lot of dishes were great, but there were definitely a few that weren't my cup of tea or were bland (as some other reviews have mentioned). At first, I thought the dishes were small, but course 4-9 really do fill you up, especially if you eat all the rice (which is refillable). Dishes are spicy and have a kick to them, but nothing was unbearable or to the point that it made you sweat (2.5-3/5 spice level - drink some water or eat some rice and you'll be fine). Cocktails are fun but one was slightly too sweet. Service was attentive and good - nothing to complain about! The side of the restaurant leads to the 2nd floor of a hotel, which is where the restrooms can be found. The 5/5 dishes: Spicy hamachi salad with Thai herbal whiskey (sake) - almost like a bite sized tartar on a thin cracker doused with fish sauce. Tasty, and the sake afterwards rounded out the salty flavor of the hamachi very well.Sea crab dip w/ sticky rice - simple yet effective. Either the curry or crab had some sort of smoky flavor. It was like I was eating clay pot rice without the clay pot. Sticky rice helped soak up all the dip, which was nice.Maing crispy pork - salty pork with a slightly sweet pear on the bottom. It was a nice small bite to end the 2nd course. Papaya salad + Hokkaido scallop - very soft scallop with noodles on the side and papaya salad. Everything mixed in went well together. You get some tartness from the tomatoes along with the nuttiness of the pistachios while still getting the spice from the chili. You can let your server know your preferred spice level before they mix the papaya salad for you (1 chili had a kick and was good enough for me).Herbal curry with beef tongue - definitely a very homey soup and not a thick curry at all. The tongue was soft and having the side of rice with it was great. Reminded me of a sinigang without the sourness.Grilled iberico pork - probably the best dish of the night. Smokey, sweet, & salty. Paired with the rice = amazing and simple. Banana ice cream - delicious way to end the night! Like a banana cream pie without the extra cream. The ice cream was creamy and paired well with the crumbles (some sort of cookie or graham cracker). The dishes + drinks that I wasn't the biggest fan of:Banana blossom chicken - as another reviewer said, this chicken was indeed bland compared to the pork or beef tongue. I wish the chicken was somehow grilled or was placed in a thicker or richer curry. Pineapple mojito sorbet - very tart. I assume this is more of a palette cleanser, but I am not the biggest fan of overly tart or sour dishes or even mojitos. Would have much preferred some sort of small pastry/cake.Pineapple cheese pie - definitely too sweet for me, with the caramel popcorn topping on top as well! If you like sweet drinks, this would be good for you. It did remind me of a pineapple yakult because of the yogurt foam. Lemongrass pendan - more on the drier side and made with gin. I actually would have liked it more if there was a stronger pandan taste and some sort of creaminess.I would easily give Hed 11 five stars if it wasn't for the above dishes. Definitely a solid place worth trying!

My wife and I stopped by Hed 11 to celebrate a special occasion after seeing they recently were recommended on the Michelin guide. We stopped by on a Friday evening around 6:45 p.m. without reservations and had no troubles getting seated. To briefly summarize my experience, the food was delicious and very filling, service was top notch, wine pairing worked well, cocktails were well-balanced and creative, but the experience was a tad pricier than I would've expected for a restaurant without a star (yet). I recently went to Anomaly for a fine dining tasting menu not too long ago and it was not only cheaper, but it was also a bit more impressive in terms of coursing.I won't parrot too much what other reviewers have mentioned in their reviews about what Hed did well, but rather, I'll focus on the items that resulted in my deduction of a star in my review. To get the good out of the way, the curry crab dish that was served as part of the main course was a 10 out of 5. I could easily eat a whole pho bowl sized portion of this dish. The dish had such a wonderful balance of sweetness, heat and umami and paired nicely with the trio of rice. My next favorite bite was the braised cube of beef, which was reminiscent of Taiwanese beef jerky, but 100x more tender and absolutely melt in your mouth. I hope these two dishes remain on the menu after the menu gets refreshed in a week or so for the fall season. With the highlights out of the way... one of my main qualms about my experience was that the dessert courses were not particularly strong. The first dessert dish was interesting -- in that items not traditionally seen in Western dessert where integrated into the dish (i.e. corn), but my wife and I both independently came to the conclusion that the dish reminded us of a snow cone with an assortment of miscellaneous toppings. With the second dessert course, the mochi adjacent textured bites were a bit too dense and certainly too sweet. Successful Asian desserts tend to be more muted in terms of sweetness, but I felt like the palm sugar syrup in the dish was far too sweet to have any more than a few bites.Overall, solid dining experience. I loved that each dish was explained in precise details when they were presented at our table and we were able to experience a wide gamut of Thai cuisine. That said, for two diners, two cocktails, a shared (premium) wine pairing, and a 18% tip, be prepared to shell out upwards of $660 for the night.

3.5 stars. At this price point of $185 I am expecting most dishes to be on point but the overall experience did not leave me raving about any particular dish. The crab dish was so spicy that I left the sauce untouched. Both of the dessert dishes felt like an afterthought. The mochi skins had different flavors but I couldn't taste the difference since the filling were all the same and overwhelmed the palate. This is probably the first place I left both dessert dishes unfinished. The dining room remained relatively empty, but could also be the storm.

This place was fantastic! I would highly recommend it, and I really enjoyed every bite of food I had.To start, the location is in a charming hotel in Japantown. I love the charm and charisma of this part of the city and was so happy to have a reason to go. The hotel itself was cute and clean. We walked from the hotel lobby up the stairs and immediately found Hed 11. The atmosphere is Hed 11 was elegant, clean, and contemporary. I really liked the styling of the space and tablescape. The dishware complimented the food bites and added to the fantastic flavors experienced when eating. Now for the food:As advertised, there are 11 courses and boy; you will be stuffed by the end of this dinner. I was so full by the end that I was almost upset I couldn't fully enjoy the full flavors of the last four courses. But, hey, that is a great problem to have. This is not one of those expensive restaurants where you will need to buy a pizza after, you will be completely satisfied. The first three courses were smaller bites. The first plate was spicy hamachi salad on a shrimp cracker, and it danced in my mouth. The flavors blended so well; it was really delicious. The second was three separate small plates, all served at once. It included a coconut-type cracker with caviar, creamy crab dip with sticky rice, and crispy pork with pear. Again, it was an amazing combination of flavors that worked so well. The last of the small bites was the papaya salad with a grilled scallop. This was one of my favorites of the night. The tableside preparation and explanations of its roots in Thai food carts were fantastic, only to be beaten by the amazing combination of flavors. Courses 4 - 9 were where the portions became bigger and I started to get very full. It was not made clear that the one bowl of 3 colors of rice is meant to last throughout all six protein dishes that come out, staggered, two at a time. My guest ended up eating most of the rice after the first two proteins, so had little for the rest. However, everything tasted amazing, and I loved the flavors and textures. My only recommendation would be to maybe serve a small portion of rice with each round of protein. Courses 10 - 11 were dessert and the cherry on top of the whole night. The final dessert was called Andy Warhol's Banana Ice Cream, and nothing could have prepared me for the creative approach the chef took to this. It tasted phenomenal and was amazing to look at. Lastly, the cocktails were well prepared and tasted amazing.I have very few cons from this experience, but I left much fuller than I would have liked. However, that is my fault for having no self-control around amazing-tasting food. I would definitely recommend eating here, and I would not be surprised one bit if they get a star sometime soon. The owner, Billie, is so sweet and came over to check on us multiple times. I love her other restaurant, Hed Verythai, downtown as well.10/10 would recommend.
