Date of Visit: 2/6/2025Having a great Happy Hour drink with friends is one of the most relaxing things to do after work. Visited the Heartwood located in financial district in San Francisco on a Thursday evening, and it was tucked in the Commercial Street with outdoor table and nice and cozy bar and sofa area. We were sat at the table closed by to the window, which has nice day light to take photos.Apple Propaganda $18I got the gin based cocktail with green apple, juniper, pisco, bay leaf and elderflower tonic. The cocktail is very refreshing and not too sweet.Leaf Water $18My friend got the tequila based cocktail with Jasmine green tea, honeydew shiso cordial, citrus, and shochu. There are a piece of shiso leaf in the glass, which added some flavor. Both cocktails were great!

I reserved Heartwood for a work Happy Hour and it was an outstanding experience! The team was incredibly communicative, responsive, and easy to work with throughout the process. The food and drinks were fantastic, and the ambiance struck the perfect balance for work events, date nights, and casual hang outs. The service was attentive and ensured everything went smoothly.I'll definitely be returning--and if you go, don't miss the pigs in a blanket, they're a must-try!

Newer spot nestled in an alley closed off to traffic so you're in for a treat to slip into some trouble where you can't be easily traced. Heartwood offers a great lounge feel in the heart of FIDI that you can pop into with a large group on a Friday afternoon to start your day. Service was great and quick. Drinks more than just appetizing, very tasty with good quality. While we were here there wasn't a type of music that would define this but they did play some RNB at a light volume so conversation can still be had. Overall cool little spot, I recommend coming for cocktails and some small bites (sliders and calamari were solid options). I'll be back to slide through for the Órale and Oasis cocktails! Yum

We walked in on Friday evening for some food and drinks. We were surprised to find the place empty. While we were there, a few other people came in, but it wasn't very busy. The food was decent overall. However, the fried chicken bites were way too salty, the smashed burger was dry. The Treasure Pig in a blanked was delicious, and I'd definitely order it again. The Avocado & Crab was interesting, but we couldn't taste any crab. It actually tasted a lot like canned tuna. The cocktails and wine were delicious, and the ambiance was great. The service was also friendly. We'd probably come back for drinks again, but the food was a bit hit-or-miss.

I left my heart...in San Francisco, and in Heartwood! Located in a small alleyway known as Commercial Street in the heart of San Francisco's Financial District. Heartwood is a bar and restaurant that comes from the same team that brought us Beehive in the Mission, and the nearby Treasury a few blocks down. Open for only a year, what sets Heartwood apart from their sister bars is that their cocktail menu's emphasis is on flavors derived from plants, fruits, herbs, and spices, which is epitomized by their namesake which is intentional in referring to the inner part of a tree and the nearby Transamerica Redwood Park, which is mere blocks away. Coming for a post-work snack and libation with a few co-workers one day, we arrived at about 5 p.m. and although the weren't busy except for a larger party of what seemed to be colleagues we were able to sit inside next to the accordion-like windows that open out onto their patio on Commercial Street. Upon entry, visitors will notice their red brick walls, exposed wooden beams and floors, and the silver oak bar towards the back of their interior. The menu at Heartwood into a drink menu featuring Cocktails, Slushies, Highballs, Wines and Beers, while the food menu features Bar Bites with categories including Snacks, Veggie Bites, Sliders, Toasts, and Something Else...Since we came for after-work drinks, I ordered their Apple Propaganda, which featured botanist gin, green apple, juniper, pisco, elderflower tonic, and topped with a bay leaf. Others in our party ordered their Forbidden Fruit Slushie, which had passion fruit, lemon thyme, ginger and citrus; their Toki Highball, which had Toki Japanese Whiskey, soda and lemon oil; and their Heartwood G&T, which had Sipsmith Gin and house tonic and topped with seasonal garnish. Of course we needed a little savoriness to go with our strong cocktails, and we ordered their Treasury Pigs in a Blanket, which were their all-natural beef sausage wrapped in puff pastry and served whole grain mustard; and their Beef Tallow Fries which was served with ketchup and malt vinegar aioli. The staff was so nice that they also gave us a serving of their signature Popcorn, which was topped with their Heartwood seasoning. Our drinks were delivered to our table first and my Apple Propaganda had a nice subtle gin base with a fruity-herbal aftertaste with every sip. Everyone else seemed to like their drinks as well, as we were here to chat and take in the atmosphere of which not much was happening as we came early and only a few extra customers would come while we were there. We really enjoyed both the hot dogs wrapped in puff pastry and their fries and the popcorn seems to be their signature dish that they offer on a regular basis and I am more that supportive of that, as it has a unique seasoning to it, which provides an extra kick with every mouthful. Our total bill was roughly twenty dollars per diner, which was actually quite reasonable considering how expensive things can be price-wise, especially in downtown San Francisco. I would definitely come back and try more of their Bar Bites menu as it stretches a wide range from fish and chips to taquitos, and with cocktails as nicely composed as they are at Heartwood, it proves they have plenty of heart left in San Francisco.

Summary:Tasty bites served alongside well-crafted drinksDetails:As expected from the folks who brought us Beehive and Third Rail, Heartwood is yet another addition to their collection of sister bars that serves up some excellent artisan cocktails and tasty eats, inside a moody, modern vibe.Between the three of us, we went through a good chunk of their menu, and were pretty pleased with every drink we tried, so you can't go too wrong there. The few bites we got were also tasty, though the beef tallow fries are a must have, and were, in fact, probably one of the best fries I've had in recent memory. The crowd seems like it can vary pretty drastically day to day, though given its location in the FiDi, I'd imagine it to be busier on weeknights than weekends: we actually came on a Saturday night, staying for a good three to four hours, and found that it never got too busy, aside from a group that had rented out half the bar earlier in the evening.Accessibility:Huge, spacious venue, with a mix of seating options, though the most accessible spot is likely to be the lower accessible counter at the bar itself. Generally pretty easy to get around, though if someone's rented out part of the space and rearranged the furniture, you may find things to be a little more difficult than usual.

Came by for an event that was being hosted here and thought it was a super cute place. I had an order of small fries and the featured cocktail -- leaf juice (leaf something). I thought the drink tasted incredible, especially as someone that doesn't really enjoy the taste of alcohol. The fries were crispy and the mayo (?) dipping sauce was definitely yummy. The bar is kind of hidden in a small alleyway, but if you map to it, it's accurate! Swing by for a chill vibe if you're in the FiDi area.

We were the only table on the day we came so I can't speak to ambiance (loud?) but I can say that the food was very good and the service was too. Service can degrade when restaurants are busy or slow and that wasn't the case here. Will definitely come back.

Didn't try any of the food here, but had a really good experience here with happy hour/drinks on a random week day recently.I knew it opened recently and some friends who loved whiskey said it was a great new whiskey bar, so had to come check it out for myself. The place was intimate, and unfortunately we came during some conference or convention, so it was actually packed even at open. However, the service was still quick, and the drink list was extensive. I enjoyed their renditions of Old Fashioned and dig their spirit selection. Great spot for HH!
