Coming back from the gym, I've always seen this truck parked here and finally decided to give it a try. I haven't had much luck with taco truck burritos, so I decided to give tacos a try this time around. I decided to go with 5 tacos ($2.50) each which is $12.50 if you pay cash, my card was charged $13, so I'm guessing that's a CC fee or whatever, no biggie. There were a few orders ahead of me, but they were still able to get the tacos out under 10 minutes.I got 3 carne asada and 2 carnitas tacos. It's double tortilla action which is heated up on the grill to get a nice toast which I liked. In terms of how much meat they put on the taco, that left a little bit to be desired. It felt like a 3-finger pinch amount of meat for each taco, which was barely anything. I think if the tacos had more meat I would've enjoyed them more bc the tortilla was the dominant flavor which is a bummer bc I liked the taste of the carne asada.

This truck is down the street from my home and I finally stopped and tried it. I'm glad I did. The truck is no frills but tastes a lot better than the other trucks in the area. The pastor was good and the asada is the best I've had on the peninsula so far. The prices seem to have come up since the earlier posting but the amount of meat on the tacos seems to be better too. I'm pretty picky with my Mexican food and this beats a lot of the restaurants and trucks I've been too and the closest to L.A. tacos that I grew up eating.

This one is a throwback for me! Having grown up in Millbrae, El Camarada was an essential after-school staple for many years. I have good memories of coming here with my friends to crush some tacos during middle school (the truck is just a short walk from Taylor Middle School), and even through our high school years. It's a pretty unassuming truck with a fairly low profile, but is honestly more solid than it appears at first glance. I had my family try the food here for the first time recently; I ordered them an Asada Super Burrito, an Asada Quesadilla, and a trio of asada, lengua, and pastor tacos. They were pleasantly surprised, given that they'd driven past for so long without ever stopping by. The asada burrito in particular was really well done, with the meat being well-seasoned and perfect ratios between the queso, guacamole, and crema. There were a couple of little nit-picky things, too; for its price, the quesadilla was a touch small, the pastor came off a bit too sweet, and the lengua could use a touch more flavor. That said, the fact that my sister -- who is notorious for her pickiness -- finished her full order and made a comment on how much she liked it just goes to show that this truck really is the real deal. It is definitely a quality local stop worthy of your time!(Update: I never would have thought it, but my grandma of all people has been hooked. I found out that she comes here on her own more often than I ever would have imagined, and has thanked me for introducing her to her new favorite local spot.)

El Camarada had changed hands earlier this year, now being named Mely's Taqueria. The food is still as good but in a different manner. There are expanded menu options, including nachos now. The cooks are very friendly and explain the items on the menu if you are unsure. It is situated close to the Millbrae Plaza, making it a great place to eat when you're walking back home after running errands.

The truck parks on Richmond Drive/Magnolia in Millbrae, north of the library. Good tacos, but a bit greasy. Quesadillas so-so. Sopes pretty good. Meat kinda gristly. No place to sit. Decent price.
