Food was just okay - nothing to call home about. I went to El Zocalo with my mother when we were looking for some food for dinner.I ordered the pupusas - they were just okay. It tasted great and got the job done. That being said, this place will nickel and dime you ever step of the way. I was charged for to go containers and there were some other hidden fees.

Hadn't been there since the last time I ate pupusas which was a while back. Back then they charged for hot water. Just plain hot water, with no tea or anything else.Today they charged. $0.50 for to go containers, and $0.25 bag fee.And for an order of ~10 plantain pieces, they charged $10. $1 for 1/7th of an entire plantain. Bring a thermos container next time to avoid the sneaky charges.

An unassuming restaurant that serves legit pupusas. What can more can I say?Well, heres more of what I can say: I loved how tart the pickled veggies were. The sauce had a good kick to it as well. The pork and cheese pupusas were delicious! Would prefer a little more cheese but still solid. Currently, Take Out only.

My aunt and mother enjoy Pupusas Revuelto. One comes with chicharrón con queso and the other has chicharrón con queso and fijoles. I got one each. I called in the first time and it was ready with the young lady and the cash register as sweet as can be. My folks are from Nicaragua but dishes get assimilated due to proximity and taste. The ambiance from what I could see wasn't something to write home about but it was roomy and enough tables to handle a busy night or luncheon. I've returned since then (less that a week) and will become a steady customer because my mom who's 92 and doesn't eat much, loves these so every week I'll see them and thumbs up.

I remember this restaurant when they were in the Mission almost 50 years ago, after the bars closed, it was packed and buzzing. Now they're tucked away in a mall with sweet, motherly waitresses and efficient bus staff. The pupusas are big, hearty, hot and delicious with a tangy cabbage salad that compliments the pupusas perfectly. I always order mine grilled a bit longer so the queso oozes out and gets crispy. My Nicaraguan and El Salvadorian friends rave about them as they are handmade, fresh, delicious and inexpensive. I also tried their enchiladas with mole sauce and their special El Zocalo sauce; both delicious, lightly seasoned and perfectly under salted. I'll try other items but always order an extra pupusa since it's their specialty. For the haters who ranted about this fine restaurant, three words, Taco Bell gringo.
