Happy Hour in the downtown area of San Francisco is becoming a rarer and rarer opportunity, thanks to Delarosa Downtown this concept thankfully still remains alive and well seven days a week! Added to the fact that it takes place over three hours from 3 to 6 p.m. and you can either dine in their bar area or their outdoor patio and enjoy the benefits of a rare affordable menu in the city. Located along Yerba Buena Lane, which is no street but a pedestrian walkway that separates the San Francisco Marriott Marquis Hotel and St. Patrick Church and the Jewish Contemporary Museum. This pedestrian walkway was once the epicenter of restaurants in San Francisco's museum district. Obviously things have now changed, but I commend the team at Delarosa for staying put and weathering the storm of the local community, no matter how long it takes. Open for nearly a decade now, Delarosa's success is derived from their first location in San Francisco's tony Marina District, which opened back in 2010. From there, two more locations, one here in downtown and a third in the East Bay city of San Ramon. With multiple locations in their midst now their fans can enjoy the benefits of their rustic Italian menu that features both small plates and Roman-style pizzas. What brought a friend and I here on a chilly weeknight was the fact we wanted to meet up in the downtown neighborhood and were searching for a place to enjoy a nice Happy Hour. Surprisingly there aren't a lot of options when it comes to Happy Hour in the downtown area so imagine our surprise that they still had one that lasted for four hours on a daily basis at Delarosa in downtown, but the overall Happy Hour menu was reasonably priced with a number of drink options. With no reservations to dine here, I wasn't sure what to expect as they were busy but not super busy when I approached the host desk. It turns out that their Happy Hour menu was accessible at their bar, but the additional communal tables in their bars were reserved when we arrived. With their bar filled with customers, they told us that we were allowed to sit at their covered heated patio in front of their restaurant and still access their Happy Hour menu. When we sat we only had about a half an hour to enjoy the affordable prices of their Happy Hour menu, so we went to town. We literally ordered all of the food items on their Happy Hour menu. I ordered their Meatballs, which was served with spicy tomato sauce and toasted crostini and their Pizzetta Sopressata which was topped with marinara sauce, provolone, hot sopressata, shishito peppers and olives. My friend ordered their White Prawns which featured shrimp cooked with garlic, herbed butter, white wine, calabrese chilis and crostini; their Cauliflower Fritti, which was topped with bagna cauda and calabrian chili; and their Pizzetta Margherita, which was topped with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese and basil. To start our meal with a drink, I ordered their Salty Dog cocktail, which was made with vodka, elderflower and grapefruit, and my friend ordered their Espresso Martini which was made with vodka, espresso and coffee liqueur. Our food would come out at a rapid pace and it would seem like a lot of food but thankfully we were famished and they were ready to satiate our appetites this evening. The highlights of our meal were the meatballs and shrimp and both were cooked perfectly and flavorful. The pizzas were both tasty and were actually perfect size to share at half a slice each. If there was one caveat to note, it is that the Pizzetta Sopressata was super spicy, even for me, who loves everything spicy, but alas even I had to down my cocktail to quench the fire on my tongue. This gave me the opportunity to order another cocktail before Happy Hour was up, so I ordered their Aperol Spritz which was made with aperol, bubbles and club soda, while my dining mate ordered their house red wine. Our bill came out to $96.94 with added gratuity which was well worth it since our server Jonathan made sure we were able to order before their prices changed with the time of evening. A return visit to Delarosa is a must, as their Happy Hour menu was filling enough with a decent amount of options in both the cocktail and food departments that you could easily enjoy a complete meal without eating the same thing twice and in this day and age that is a remarkable accomplishment. Here's to hoping that Delarosa downtown thrives with experience and continued good service, food and cocktails.

Delarosa is a unique SF pizza spot because it offers a less popular style of pie that's often overlooked -- Roman pizza. No, not pinsa, its fluffy Roman counterpart which is also delicious, and not the popular, wetter, Neapolitan style, nor the thicker, square Sicilian style; Roman pizza is thin and round like a Neapolitan with a crispier crust much more akin to a slice found in New York City. Delarosa cranks out truly delicious crispy pizzas with fresh ingredients in a modern, relaxed atmosphere that feels comfortable and nice without being stuffy at all. While you can never go wrong with a classic Margherita, the true gem of this shop is the prosciutto di parma. This is my favorite prosciutto white pie of all time, with an extremely creamy and cheesy base that reminds me of burrata topped with ample tender prosciutto and a mountain of arugula kissed with freshly grated parmesan. If you come to delarosa you MUST get this pizza, as it is among the best in all of the bay area and worth every penny of its very reasonable $22 price. Delarosa is a 4 star restaurant but I am giving it 5 stars based on this best-in-class pie alone; and the great, friendly service doesn't hurt, either.

Always a good option for the area if you are in a larger group and/or don't want to hit up Little Italy. I went after a convention and the group I was with easily got a spot with 6+ people for a same day reservation. The place has low lighting in the evening and both outdoor and indoor seating available. The service is inconsistent. This time I went, our hostess came off as cold, only confirming our reservation with a head nod and saying nothing else and we had to flag someone down for a water refill. Other times I've had more pleasant and warmer service. The pizza is great! But doesn't challenge anything in the neighborhood of Little Italy in SF. But you really have the advantage of minimal wait times at Delarosa and being able to accommodate large parties easier. This time, we ordered the fungi fennel sausage and prosciutto do parma, both of which were hits with the table. The drinks are inconsistent and this time was no exception. I got an Arnold Palmer which was everything I wanted. A friend got the Italian 75, twice, and the same drink came out tasting very different both times that we asked if it was the correct drink. If you're in for pizza and the like but don't want to go to Little Italy, Delarosa can be your fix, even if the service and food is inconsistent.

The inside of the restaurant is warm with lots of live chatter. There's also outside seating if you'd like to dine in the crisp night air. When we got there, the hostess wasn't the friendliness. We had made reservations beforehand (730p on a Friday night) and mentioned that to her, to which she gave us a standoffish greeting. She walked the floor once, grabbed menus, asked us to follow her, realized she was going the wrong way, turned around and went to another section of the restaurant, but the movements and demeanor still felt cold, despite the warmth of the ambiance. Our server, was a little more approachable, but also had a standoffish type of vibe and talked way too softly for the establishment in that we couldn't hear a word she was saying the entire time of service. We kindly kept asking her to repeat herself, to which seemed to make her annoyed, by the look on her face. Aside from the service, the food was outstanding. Everything that we ate was IT! We had no leftovers amongst the 3 of us, to which we shared 3 apps and 3 entrees. My only other wish is that the stools/benches we sat on had backs. Call me old, but my lower back was hurting by the end of the meal. But does the food solely outweigh the service and ambiance? Check them out and let me know what you think!

Good happy hour & cocktails. Busy around 4:30pm on a Tuesday, but there was room at the bar for a couple of us.* The Monarch ($14) - 4 stars. Nice refreshing drink, a little strong for me but did the trick.* Cauliflower Fritti ($10 Happy Hour) - 3.5 stars. Good flavor, a little on the soggy side but I still enjoyed.

This is a great place for pizza and pasta if you're in Downtown SF! I've been here a few times now. Recently was at a convention at Moscone West and booked a lunch reservation here. Checking in for our table was quick and easy on a Saturday afternoon at 1pm. Our order was taken and food was served in a timely fashion. Service could have been friendlier but at least it was efficient. If you have vegetarian friends with you like I did on one of my visits, there are good options here on the menu for them. Ambiance is nice with an open and casual setting including some communal tables mixed in with smaller tables. If you don't like sharing a long table with others, make a reservation. There is nice patio seating as well. They can accommodate large groups too - I went to a group dinner once and 12 of us were seated outside together. Here are some menu items I liked:-gold and red beets salad (4.5/5)kale, avocado, farro, sliced almond, goat cheese, balsamic vinaigrette-ziti with chicken parmigiana (5/5) -spicy fennel sausage pizza with mozzarella, onion (4/5)-margherita with burrata pizza (4.5/5) While it's not one of my top pizza places in the bay, the crust is very good, and it is a solid and reliable choice if you're in the area.

This spot was great for our group that wasn't super hungry but needed some food after a long day. First, the drinks were incredible. I'm glad that they had some fun drinks with great flavor to start the meal. We began with an appetizer, which was really large but didn't really move the needle as much as I had hoped. The pizza was the same - good - nothing exquisite, but a solid price, with solid ingredients, and interesting combinations. For the location, the price, service, and pace was awesome.

Been coming here for many years now and it's always a pleasant experience. Quality food at affordable prices - pizza has a nice crust and isn't too greasy, I like the buratta one quite a bit. The beet salads here are also not to miss - the large is a very big portion and can easily be shared. Also, don't miss their happy hours for even more amazing deals. Clean and cozy inside - they even have a bar that often stocks fairly nice whiskey and spirits. Their espresso martinis are a hidden gem! They use real expresso and shakes up to a nice foam.

Delarosa is located in between union square and target, and can tend to get quite crowded. That being said, the pizza and the pastas offered are solid but nothing extraordinary. Some of the pizza's lean towards the saltier side, but my favorites include the marinara with beretta and the spicy marinara which comes with chili peppers, chili oil and sausage. The marinara pizza was crispy and the beretta was perfectly melted and creamy. One thing that was great to see was that the restaurant offered cheese alternatives for pizzas which was super convenient for my vegan and lactose-intollerant friends and the non-dairy cheese was quite good! I would definitely recommend this place overall for a good solid pizza.
