Absolutely love Deccan ! It used to be our goto place to eat after drinking . Lately we've been going for dinner or doing take outs . Their food has been consistently good for several years now which is really hard for restaurants to keep up . The Hyderabadi biryani is to die for and a generous portion ! The restaurant itself is small and cute . The service is great and staff very attentive . It's been our goto place for biryani and chicken tikka!

3.5 STARSSeveral weeks ago, I made the mistake of NOT combing through the reviews of a South Indian restaurant in Sunnyvale. I ordered spicy and it legit felt like I was eating lava. This is coming from someone who usually requests spicy and extra spicy, and it's not spicy enough. What's that saying, "IF it hurts going in..."?So, yea...I'm surprised I could walk straight the next day. This time, I wasn't going to make the same mistake and made sure I combed through the reviews for Deccan House. Some of the reviews state that "mild" = "very spicy", "so spicy", etc. so I went with mild. Mild was plenty spicy for me so thank you, yelpers!Deccan House is open for takeout, delivery, and indoor dining. I ordered delivery so not sure if they still have outdoor dining.M E N USouth Indian cuisine with a touch of Indo-Chinese: Soups, apps, tandoor, idli/vada (savory snacks), dosas, uttapam (thick dosa w/ toppings), curries, dum biryani, breads, and desserts. No upcharge for 3rd party delivery apps BUT steep pricing...prices are 20-35%+ higher than competitors in the area. Ex: Curries start at $16.95 and it costs extra to add protein...$5 to add tofu?!Spice levels: Normal (not sure what that means), mild, and spicy.I ordered lunch delivery via Uber Eats. Was quoted 20-40 minutes and it was delivered in 40 minutes. Food was hot and securely packed. F O O D* Chettinadu: Spicy curry w/ salan, onion, special tamilnadu spices, coconut oil ($16.95): https://tinyurl.com/mrym4ja7*** Add chicken (+$2)*** Requested mildThe chettinadu was robustly spiced and spicy with a few pieces of tender white and dark chicken meat. The gravy ran on the salty side, and "mild" packed enough heat to make my nose run. I tempered the leftover gravy with coconut milk to make coconut noodle soup. * Hyderabadi Dum Biryani: Indian basmati rice, aromatic spices, Mughlai-style ($15.95)*** Add goat ($4)*** Requested mildThe biryani was fluffy, fragrant, and medium spicy with a handful of tender, bone-in goat pieces. Some of the basmati wasn't separated and a bit clumpy. The accompanying shorba (coconut gravy) and raita (yogurt sauce) added a layer of cooling spice. It's my understanding that mughlai-style biryani is supposed to have veggies but this one didn't. Overall, Deccan House serves pretty good South Indian fare, however, it's overpriced. I will pay for higher quality food but I didn't feel the taste, nor the quality was any different than local competitors charging a fraction of the cost. 3.5 stars rounded up for a small local business.

I came here solo for a late-night dinner, one of the few places that were open late and was sat very quickly; about 3-4 tables were occupied. The server (owner, maybe?) was very attentive and asked him what his favorite dish was: the Andra stew. I'm a five on the spicy scale, but I knew this place was going to be hot, so I asked him if he thought this dish was spicy, and he was an honest man and said it was the best one, so I had to get mild and suck it up. I got it with garlic naan, but I'd get it with regular naan next time since the stew was flavorful and hit the spot, and the man is honest, it was spicy! Regardless, I live to write about it and plan to go there another late night in the mission...

A small spot to enjoy some Indian dining. We were able to snag an outside table and sampled the dosa plate. Generous in portion for one person, but didn't quite hit the authentic flavors I was craving. Overall, a good option if you are new to Indian food but not the place I would send my Indian friends.

The service here sucks dude. I placed an order through Uber eats and wanted to add a item. I called them within 45 seconds of placing the order on Uber eats and they said "sorry we can't change or cancel anything, you have to do that through Uber eats."Totally fair, so I told them that I had tried to modify through Uber eats and the instructions were to contact the vendor directly. Same answer "sorry we can't change or cancel anything." So I was like "okay, that's not helpful." And they asked "okay should we cancel?" Like, what? They told me they can't do anything, and then tell me that they're going to cancel?I know they hadn't even started making the food because they took some time to locate the order. I ended up cancelling and paying the fee, but this establishment sucks, wouldn't recommend.

It was my first time here . It was a bit hard to find a parking spot close to the restaurant. I went on Friday around 2:30 pm . When I walked in to the restaurant, it seemed like they only offer takeout food . There was no one there except a guy sitting in a corner having his food . There were no one else. Not even someone to welcome you . It had a very weird vibe. Then that guy asked me if I want food ? I said yes . He said to go ? I said can I sit here ? He said yes . Then 3 guys came out of behind and one of them handed me the menu. I ordered chicken heidarabadi koorma. He asked if I want bread ? I said no . Rice is enough . When they brought the food , the portion was so so small , rice was just enough for a kid and the chicken koorma was SO spicy. Oh my goodness. I couldn't eat it. I asked the guy is it mild ? He said yes . I said well I can not eat it . Is there a way you can change it ? He said I am not sure , let me check . He took it and brought another bowl with hi was basically same . I think they added a bit of water in it and hit it up in the microwave. Since the rice was just few spoons , I asked for plain nan . My rice was already cold when they brought the chicken koorma. And still it was SOSO fccchbhfd spicy . Maybe it's just a good spot for Indians that used to these type of food that is really spicy. When I am ordering an entry why I need to order a bread ? Just because you bring a small portion of rice !?? It cost me $30 for a very bad food. When I paid I came out and asked the guy who followed me that why your price is so high for a low quality and portion ? The rice was just good for a kid . He said oh well you see the rice is just complimentary! I said what ? I have been to many other Indian restaurants. For $20 food your rice is complimentary? Any other places in SF they provide way better food , bigger portions and cheaper. You basically bring a small portion of rice so that the customer order more rice or bread . He started explaining himself and his resturant and I said I'm off here . That's fine . I will never go back here again . And I am advising any one who is deciding to go here , think 10 times before going here . The 4.5* reviews that they have is fake .

I have ordered few more times since my last review. I love their Biryani, it's the only authentic Hyderabad Dum Biryani that I have come across in San Francisco. I just wish they would a give a bit more of Salan on the side, it's just not enough for the portions. I like their chettinadu chicken too.

The deccan biriyani is amazing I've had it twice now. Best biriyani in the city I think. My only suggestion is more raita bc I like spice with a cool shot of raita for balance. Def spicy so if you can't handle a lot of spice I'd order something else
