What a gorgeous, fabulous restaurant. Just wow! We'd been to the restaurant that previously occupied this space (Dosa) many years ago. The transformation from Dosa to Copra is incredible. Its spacious airy interior is nothing short of fabulous. Just beautiful, top to bottom. We had 11:30 Sunday brunch reservations and were promptly greeted and seated. Very glad to have arrived right at their opening for the fleeting feeling of nearly having the whole fantastic place to ourselves. It quickly became bustling and was nearly packed by the time we departed. Friendly, informative and fast (but not rushed) service from the waitstaff was perfect. We were walked through some menu highlights, upon asking our server for some of her favorites. Very nice that they have a selection of non-alcoholic beverages, since we're doing dry February. We opted for Orange Ruby and Salty City. Both unique and delicious. We each selected one appetizer ("Little" plates): Tender Jack "Sixty Five" and Shrimp Vennai Roast. For mains, I went with the Mysore Masala Dosa and he had the Kori Gassi. Everything was very good, extremely flavorful. The shrimp packed a punch but it wasn't blow our heads off spicy. Just a nice slow build of warmth. The accompanying cucumber was a nice complement to cool things down a bit. The jackfruit was perfectly fried and served hot, but I didn't love the internal texture of the jackfruit after a few bites. The yogurt dip was nice. The dosa was fabulous and a joy to eat. The chicken curry was packed with flavor. Can't wait to enjoy the leftovers for dinner over the coconut rice we brought home ~ and the Watalappan dessert we also ordered to go.I would most happily return t Copra without delay.

I am a BIG FOODIE!! I am from Mumbai, and have tried almost all Indian cuisines, not only that I take my spices seriously!! :)This place disappointed the Food lover in me! I love Indian cuisine for the sheer regional variety it offers. I always forward to trying new restaurants in this space. We have been wanting to try this place for a long time but every time we were in SF getting a reservation was a challenge. You have to make reservations in advance for this place, and they charge $45 pp in advance in case of a no show. They have a limited item menu, so the least they can do is ensure that they don't run out of those items! They were out of dindingul biryani! Which was one of the dishes we wanted to try. After making it to the restaurant it took over 40 mins for our food to arrive. My daughter being a slow eater was taking her time with her fried chicken but the waiters not once but twice tried to take her half eaten plate away without the courtesy of asking if she is done. The food wasn't impressive either. We ordered fried chicken, shrimp, lamb shoulder. Rasam puri, and masala dosa plus desserts. Rasam puri is just another take on Pani puri but again nothing out of the world, same goes for Dosa and other items. I feel this place is overhyped. The one star is for the ambience and the pretty decoration.

We decided to have an early dinner in the japan town area and we were very impressed with Copra. The interior felt very calming- a mix of jungle vibes and pottery barn catalogue. The staff seemed busy and attentive all at the same time. We didn't have to wait long for our food- which was exactly what I wanted, delicious small bites. My partner and I split the dosa which is a really fun dish to eat if you aren't used to eating with your hands. We also ordered four small bites including the scallops, fried chicken, crispy sambal peppers, and the octopus. I'd say we were pretty hungry to start and were able to finish everything perfectly full.I couldn't put my finger on it but if I had to guess this is primarily an Indian restaurant with a California flair- very yummy!!

I eat Indian food all the time and thought of giving Copra a shot. It is in the same place where there used be Dosa at Fillmore. I reserved table two day prior through Resy. They charge $45 for no show so better cancel early if couldn't make it. I was there early and after waiting 5 mins , they gave the table. The restaurant was full. The decor was good. The server was chatty. I tried shrimp roast, fried chicken and vegan cutlets. The shrimps were delicious. But the other two didn't blow me. The chicken biriyani was good , the chicken curry(they have a special name) comes with Appam. As I was celebrating a special day for my dear one, I requested a surprise at the end of the meal. But they served it in the most awful manner. The server forgot the spoons and we waited forever for him to come back.I was expecting better in an upscale restaurant like Copra.

Back again to celebrate another birthday! This time with 7 people. Definitely a great spot for large parties and celebrations. Just note that with over 7 people, you will have to do the prefix menu. The interior was beautiful, and food was amazing and so was the service! We ordered 2 beet salads, 1 rasam poori with an extra, 2 fried chickens, 2 shrimp roasts, 2 dosas, 2 curries, 2 sides of rice, and 3 desserts and it was an amazing meal. We enjoyed everything but the dosa was definitely the crowd pleaser, very crisp and came with some delicious condiments. Everything was very flavorful and beautifully presented. The rasam poori was also really cool to try, I've never had anything like it before.

I was really excited to check out Copra so I decided to go for brunch with our group of friends. Our party of 4 was running a little late but I was able to get seated first. The interior was stunning, but our group left feeling very rushed and the food was just average and overpriced on top of the rudeness we felt from our server. We did arrive late to our reservation and weren't able to get the full seating time, which we didn't mind, but our server constantly rushed us every few minutes, keeping time for us, telling us we only had X amount of time left and we can't place in any more orders. We understand that they have reservations after and need the table, however, our server could have been more polite with it. Our group felt so anxious during our entire meal that it was unsettling, we couldn't even enjoy the meal and we just wanted to leave despite us still being hungry afterwards. I also had a gift card for the restaurant that I wanted to use and when our server brought back the bill, she heavily emphasized that the tip amount was the amount after the gift card deduction, telling me to tip based on the pre deduction amount. I usually don't mind this friendly reminder and tipping is ultimately up to the patrons to decide, but after the service and treatment we got the entire meal, this left a bad taste in our group. As for the food, we ordered were: Medu Vadai, Rasam Poori, Shrimp Vennai Roast, Cardamom Copra Toast Kori Gassi and the Lamb Shoulder Chettinad. Out of the food items, the only ones that stood out to us and that we enjoyed were the shrimp and cardamom toast. The seasoning and spices for the shrimp were so unique and added a kick to the shrimp. The toast was also not too sweet and a nice sweet treat to balance out the spices and savory main dishes. Everything else was really basic and overpriced and I think there is definitely way better Indian food out there in the Bay Area. There was also miscommunication between our server and the staff, we had asked to check on the medu vadal since we were rushed to finish up, but our server had put in another order instead. We also tried their signature drip coffee and chai and it was disappointing for the price point. It was good but was it special, nope. For $5 you are getting a small shot glass size drink, you're better off going to a coffee shop to get a larger cup of coffee.

**3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars**My friend has raved about this place for the past year and I was so excited to finally check it out. Overall, super amazing ambiance and great quality Indian food. You're definitely paying for the atmosphere though because while the food is good, I think there are cheaper spots for even better Indian food, but it's just a lot more casual (like Palawan or Udupi Palace). My favorite dishes were the Littles, which included the Rasam Poori, Thattukanda Fried Chicken, and Shrimp Vennai Roast. They were all very unique and had great flavor. The Larges didn't feel as special to me. My favorite one was probably the Mysore Masala Dosa, but it was double the price of the one from my favorite spot. There was also a really yummy spongy coconut flatbread that came with it. The Lamb Shoulder Chettinand and Chicken Biryani were on the salty side to me, but tasted like classic Indian dishes.

Really yummy elevated Indian food in a gorgeous setting! The interior is modern and bohemian with tapestries that really set the ambiance. For food my friend ordered the Rasam Poori to start and then shared the Black Cod Pollichathu and Chicken Biryani. The Rasam Poori was fun and a creative take on pani puri with a passion fruit base. I really loved the Black Cod which was melt in your mouth and served with coconut rice. The biryani was good as well but we've had other great biryanis in the Bay so this wasn't as exciting. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu! Everything was delicious and although we didn't order drinks, the cocktail menu looked great as well.

Brunch was good but didn't blow us away. The chef is famous and we tried their sister restaurant Ettan. Recently we had a great dinner at Rooh and wanted to compare these places.- Rasam Poori: 3.8/5. Good flavor but didn't blow us away. My husband said the sauce was a little too tangy.- Shrimp vennai roast: I liked this dish the most because of the marination. My husband thought it's forgettable (what?!)- Dosa: we had to try it. The dosa was so crispy, unlike other places we tried. Chutneys were fine, nothing special. We know brunch menu isn't different from dinner. We might come back to try their dinner. The decor was tasteful, not over the top like I expected from the social media. Service was prompt and friendly enough.
