I used to go here before the restaurant changed ownership, menu, approach, etc. I remember the food under different ownership to be nourishing, tasty, but overall unmemorable.Chisai is both exceptional and also clublike: exceptional in that I tried fish I hadn't heard of from unusual origins prepared in unexpected delightful ways; and clublike in that there are only a few omakase options, so I check my preferences at the door and leave the decisions to the establishment; also clublike in that it ain't cheap. We were repeatedly and successively surprised and delighted.

Pretty good omakase spot with good price points in a quieter part of the mission. Small intimate setting and great staff. They have several omakase options, a slightly smaller menu for $95, a larger menu for $120, and a vegetarian option which I do not remember the price of. I ordered the oki menu ($120) which started with an oyster, followed by crab salad, sashimi, 12 pc nigiri, and ended with a mugicha ice cream for dessert with a mini taiyakiOverall good quality + flavor food. It was my first time trying snail caviar atop the oyster. They have a good variation of bold and more classic flavors for nigiri, and I would say more inventive and less traditional than most other omakase spots I've been to. The only minor feedback for the nigiri is that I noticed that the sizes were not very uniform for the nigiri's since I was dining with a few friends and the rice did fall apart a little, but not a big deal. There's also a supplemental menu which I ordered the uni carbonara which everyone raved about, I think the uni sauce + flavor was good but we all agreed that the noodles were on the softer side so not sure if we just had a batch which was slightly overcooked. Dessert was a delightful end. Overall would come back again.

Chīsai Sushi Club is an absolute gem in the deep south Mission--a cozy, wonderful spot I find myself returning to again and again (this being my 3rd or 4th visit). Their food is a dazzling array of flavors paired with pristine presentations that consistently amaze. Server Tricia and chef Darrin elevate the experience even further with their exceptional service and artistry. I've brought various friends and family here to share the magic, and every single one has raved about the experience. This place is a true diamond in the rough, and I can't recommend it highly enough! The first time I went, I filmed the experience here:https://youtu.be/xUM90Wi0NgA?si=cQZkX1pRDxo6mUeQFor a little added history and fun, ask one of the servers about the custom painting of Ocean Beach and the old Cliff House that hangs there. It holds a few fun little easter eggs about the establishment.

Chīsai sushi club gives off a modern trendy sushi vibe. It's a small little restaurant with counter and table seating available. There was lively music playing in the background but at times, it does get a little hard to hear the convo. Excellent customer service. We came a little before our reservation and were greeted immediately as we entered the restaurant. We ordered the buckwheat tea for the table and the server made sure to constantly add hot water to the pot.Fish was melt in your mouth with unique flavor pairings. My favorite bite of the night was the scallop with foie gras butter. It was soft, buttery and sweet! For supplement, our table ordered the uni carbonara and this was a little disappointing. The bacon flavor overpowers the uni and it the sauce is not as creamy as I liked it. My mom got the vegan option and she quite like her first omakase experience. A lot of textures and different preparations methods for each ingredient. Reservation highly recommended since it was pretty packed on a Thursday night. Parking is pretty limited in the area so definitely allocate extra time for it. Overall, the omakase experience was pretty good but I do wish that I got the counter seating. Everything was decent but nothing really wowed or surprised me. Probably won't be visiting again but I'm glad that I gave this a place a try and checked it off my bookmark list.

Tried this small, intimate sushi restaurant for the first time last night NYE. I thought they did well overall! It was a good experience. The prices are on the higher side so we opted for the omakase. I thought the highlight for sure was the 9 pc nigiri! Pretty awesome flavors If you ask me. The rest of the food was ok but did not WOW. Overall it missed a opportunity to show something unique but the simplicity and flavor was there. 4.5/5 FOOD4/5 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE

Came here for my husband's birthday to do Omakase and it was a hit! He did the Oki Omakase, which had 12 pieces of nigiri, a salad, sashimi, hand, and dessert. They also have a vegan Omakase, which is very unique and helpful for non-fish eaters and pregnant woman! It's a small restaurant on Mission, but the service and food were phenomenal and would come back again!

Though the name is Chisai (small), this restaurant was an oki (big) way to celebrate a special occasion! My companion surprised me by taking me to Chisai for an unforgettable omakase experience.Like the namesake, chisai means small, and this restaurant is small. The cozy interior creates a more busy feeling, and sound travels quickly. The dim and dark decor didn't give off a typical Japanese omakase ambiance; it's more like you're at someone's house in the city. It's a more Americanized look and feel. Service was top-notch. Our sushi chef was fast and flawless, and we enjoyed chitchatting with him. The service by waitstaff was excellent--plates cleared and water refilled.Omakase is what it's all about! They have three options: chisai (small), oki (big), and yasai (veggie). There are also options to add supplements. My companion and I both got the Oki, which we highly recommend. Along with 12 pieces of nigiri, all chosen by the sushi chef, we also got temaki, dessert, salad, and appetizers. They noted that my dietary restrictions and accommodations were considerate and didn't taint the flavor or taste of any dish. There's a fusion take on the experience, so keep that in mind. Almost every piece was phenomenal and executed exceptionally. My top had to be the Salmon, Black Cod, and Tuna Nigiris. Each nigiri was well portioned with an excellent rice-to-fish ratio, the fish was fresh and buttery, and the accompaniments were a great pairing. My companion and I also chose to share a Uni Ikura bowl; after mixing it, it was creamy, briny, and umami. Our ending dish, dessert, was so good. The vegan coconut and cardamom ice cream has me dreaming to this day, and my companion's ice cream is super cute. I wish we had more room in our stomachs to try more! After two hours, we were so full yet so happy. I highly recommend Chisai Sushi Club to those who like omakase or want a casual yet unique experience. It's located in Bernal Heights, and parking is limited to the street. I'm grateful to my companion for taking us out, and I recommend it to all city locals!

(4.5 stars) Chisai Sushi Club is a cozy, intimate spot perfect for a date night. I tried the $95 omakase--good value for SF--and every dish was well crafted. It started with a refreshing crab salad, followed by tangy, spicy ponzu sauce based albacore, and three courses of melt-in-your-mouth nigiri, with fish sourced from Canada, Japan, and Norway. The sea bream and cod were highlights. A spicy tuna hand roll and homemade elderflower ice cream rounded out the meal perfectly. Chisai also offers a vegan omakase. Overall really good sushi and attentive service too.
