Nicest, warmest, most helpful, down home, friendly neighborhood little wine bar and retailer ever. Absolutely loved the service and the vibe from the beautiful and kind young man (from Virginia) pictured here. I will be back soon.

Wine tasting $11.00What could be better than hanging out in your old neighborhood for the day? Hanging out with your two best friends and drinking wine! Michael was working the tasting table and he was a superb bartender! So friendly and knowledgeable about wine. We had a wonderful time plus got a Yelp check in discount on a couple bottles of wine!

I love California wine, and that's what they carry! They do tastings (check the hours), and have received many good tips for affordable wines there. Green and Red, and some OV Zin that are $20But they also carry the good stuff, at least the stuff that is sold to distributors. Stag's Leap, Turley, Dunn. The folks there know more about wine and the winemakers than I do, and I usually come outta there better informed. Cheers

Great Selection. Outstanding Service. Affordable Prices. We were introduced to Castro Village Wine Company by friends who live nearby. The selection was large and surprisingly varied for a smaller store. You can tell that the managers take the time to have a solid variety of options to choose from - for every palette and price point. The service was outstanding - fast, friendly and so very very knowledgeable. And best of all, a wine tasting was so inexpensive! Truly this place is a delight. Visit if you need to take a bottle home or if you want to stay a while and relax.

Seeking a beverage for the haute bourgeoisie at your next dinner party? This is the destination for local wines and some bubbly.....Did you know:Champagne established an eternal link to the French Crown when Joan I, Queen of Navarre and Countess of Champagne married Philip IV ('The Fair'), King of France.YUP lets have a toast to the COUNTESS of champagne.....In 1815, another Champagne innovation by a female .Barbe-Nicole Clicquot, one of the world's first international businesswomen, created the modern champagne market.Widow Clicquot AKA Veuve Clicquot developed Champagne's in-bottle fermentation. Veuve Cliquot's innovation was to turn the bottles neck-down and let the yeast settle in the neck in a process known as "remuage" or riddling creating faster improved production. She wrote a letter to a grandchild: "The world is in perpetual motion, and we must invent the things of tomorrow. One must go before others, be determined and exacting, and let your intelligence direct your life. Act with audacity."AND let us not forget another audacious woman of champagne !In 1858,Madame Pommery another widowed businesswoman used her fortune to good ends. One of her most dramatic gestures was buying Jean-Francois Millet's "The Gleaners" for 300,000 francs at auction. She announced the painting would be donated to France at her death, keeping the work in the country. OH yeah annnnnnnd she set up the first pension fund and a social security system for her employees. She also founded the orphanage in Reims and its maternity fund. Lets Drink to these women of Champagne.

Walking into this wonderful wine shop and seeing all the bottles can be a little overwhelming, but the knowledgeable staff has always been helpful in pointing out exactly what I am looking for. Specializing in California wines, they also have a good selection of half bottles. YES, I said half bottles (you don't see that often enough). I always find something new and delicious to try when I visit this shop. Easy to get to on MUNI, and have never had a problem finding parking nearby. MA

Castro Village Wine Company is an excellent small neighborhood wine shop that also has wine tastings! Although the selection is not large, they stock many small label and obscure wines. This is half the fun since you probably never heard of the wineries before and will be trying something new.I walked in with just an idea in my head and went to the Chardonnay section specifically looking for Sonoma/Russian River Valley. The wine I selected was not what I walked out with. Thanks to the knowledgable and friendly sales staff, after listening to my preferences, recommended another one for me. He did not care that it was cheaper than what I had originally chosen; he just wanted to make sure I'd like the wine! IMHO that's going a step beyond in customer service. While there are a number of other wine and liquor stores nearby, do yourself a favor and check into Castro Village Wine Company the next time you are in the Castro.

This place was nice. The staff was pleasant....the wine tasting is pretty basic. With stools in the back but not a place for a large crowd. They have a great selection of wines to choose from, so you can always taste & take with you.I'm sure this is a wonderful place if you live in the neighborhood but not somewhere I'd be dying to go back too.

I have been here before and was pretty excited there was a cute wine shop in my neighborhood. I know they do a wine tasting on Fridays which is amazing but they can more organized and friendly. This is the 2nd time I've tried to purchase wine on wine tasting night. It was not busy, people were tasting but I was stopped at the door and was literally shooed to step outside and was asked to see my vax card. I just wanted to buy a bottle of wine. Not taste anything. And again as I grab my vax card the gentleman again shooed me away again. If you're overwhelmed, I understand. But to shoo someone away who's trying to support your business is not ok.
