Staff are rude. I've been going for many years and I've accepted their Suttle mistreatment for lack of options.. but today, was unacceptable. I called because I had forgotten an item and was hung up on twice and then was told verbatim when I located my item " that's why you need to double check your itmes before making a complaint "I will never be shopping their again.. I will be going to casa lucas. This happened 6/30/ 5:45 pm

This place is good for fresh fruit, at insanely cheap prices. Be careful when purchasing packaged items (from the fridge or on the shelf) that the store didn't make themselves. Often times they aren't labeled in pricing and are super expensive (I bought a premade salsa not made by them and it was $8 for a small container).I have heard their ceviche, salsa, and guac made by them in the front fridge is good.If you go to their meat counter it seems reasonable priced for poultry and fish as well. Bags are now $0.25 so make sure to bring your own as well.I don't think I could make this my everything grocery store but we stop here when we need small things here and there instead of making a big trip.

Bought 6 Manila mangoes here last week , 2 for $1.00. I gave 3 to my sister .But when I sliced it open, I was very disappointed. All 3 mangoes were brown inside. They were not good for consumption .So beware of the quality of produce . Needless to say, I will not be going back to buy any fruit or vegetables.

Casa Guadalupe is supposedly better than its nearby counterpart down the street, Casa Guadalupe #2. I found the variety, freshness of produce, and prices to be comparable, but I would still definitely recommend Guadalupe if you're looking for a clean grocer nearby.TIPS ON SHOPPING AT MEXICAN GROCERS (Warning: I think I shop smart, but may come off sounding a bit like a homeless person):* Amazing prices: Most Mexican grocers are pretty dirty, Casa Guadalupe is an anomaly. Other than that, the prices and produce are good but nothing special compared to other Mexican Marts.* Where to go: My favorite Mexican grocers in the Mission are 24th St. Bart, 16th St Bart, and around 20th (the foreign grocer). Casa would be part of the rotation if it were closer to me. You will find prices a fraction the cost of Safeway or Lucky, and equal or slightly lower in quality / freshness. You won't get the variety or freshness guarantee of top tier grocers like Whole Foods. * What to buy: You have to be flexible with your grocery list at places like these, often they do not carry what you want or if they do, they might be expensive or poor quality. Citrus fruits, tomatoes, bananas, onions, and sometimes garlic are usually safe items to buy and super cheap. Sometimes you will find great deals on organic kale, lettuce, and apples but these items are the ones who don't make it past the standards of higher end grocers (I assume) and are always slightly defective (but still mostly good!). * What not to buy: I would never buy meat at these places (I've smelled rancid meat wafting from their butchery), and be extra discerning about produce like peaches, berries (not organic), and other fruit (apples are ALWAYS bruised or rotten). You will sometimes find great deals on organic apples or veggies, but look out for rotting areas and bruises which are inevitable.

They have my FAVORITE ceviche...who would have thought the best ceviche in SF is from a little market in the Mission. So good, very spicy and perfectly filling. I usually grab one of the big containers and a smaller container of their guacamole for me and my husband on my way home from Bart. Their produce also looks good and they always have a (super long) line, even when I went yesterday during the day, so the rest of the products/food must be good.

Casa Guadalupe is celebrating 25 years in business for a good reason.Great prices, wonderful people, and a fantastic selection of most everythingone needs. BTW: the closed shop at 25th is being remodeled from the groundup and will be re-opening when done. THAT'S a serious commitment to ourneighborhood and to the future of a great, small, family owned business. Maythey last another 25 years!

Apparently it is very difficult to find passion fruit in SF. I searched Whole Foods, Safeway, Trader Joe's -- none were carrying it at this point in time. And then I realized I hadn't tried the Mexican markets yet.Casa Guadalupe picked up the phone (no wait or transfer to another department!) and said they Did have frozen passion fruit. After a brief moment of confusion, I realized it was under the Spanish name "maracuya" and successfully scored 3 packages. They have a fantastic selection of other frozen tropical fruit purées -- from the more traditional guava and mango to the unrecognizably exotic Mamey and naranjillo.Cocktail making for the evening, saved by a little local shop with such kind and helpful staff!
