TLDR : Great food, quick service - wonderful experience We tried the chicken samusas, salad and the noodles. The food was flavorful and not too spicy. Loved the fact that we wanted to place an order but the kitchen had just closed yet the servers and the kitchen staff were able to an exception.Great experience overall!

This is my go-to mom and pop Japanese restaurant! -simple menu-delicious food, fresh sushi-great price -friendly staff -the wait could be long since the place is relatively small, but worth it!

Came here after golfing at the presidio. It happened to be during lunar new year and ordered off of that menu. We started with coconut Thai ice tea, which was okay. Not super amazing. They also served us these lotus and potato chips, which were so good. Little bit of spice. I would buy bags of these if they sold it. Next we had a tea leaf salad. Fried garlic, peanuts, sunflower seeds, tomatoes, lettuce, jalapeños, a hint of fish sauce and dried shrimp. It was really good but not a super filling salad. They dressed and tossed it at the table. For our entree we had this spicy garlic Dungeness crab. It was amazing. It came with sautéed bok choy with garlic and fried onions and coconut rice. The coconut rice, I think was the best part of the meal. For dessert we had the passion fruit sorbet. Paired well with the mint and strawberries. We were really full after this meal. Our server was so great. We were seated outside and it got really cold. They offered everyone outside blankets. What a nice little touch.

I was excited to try Burma Superstar after hearing all about the restaurant and spin-offs. I came by on a rainy Friday and luckily didn't have to wait to get a table. There is also a Yelp waitlist you can join ahead of time in case it's busy. We started with the class Tea Leaf Salad and then shared the Nan Gyi Dok and Burmese Beef Curry with a side of rice. The Tea Leaf Salad was nice and earthy with a good crunch from the nuts and chickpeas. The coconut curry rice noodles and beef curry were good as well but overall I wish the dishes had more of a punch of flavor. I was left feeling a bit disappointed because of the hype I heard. The dishes didn't really standout but it was overall pretty good.

Burma Superstar? With a name like that I'mGoing to expect something to be the star of the show. The star would be the menu. The menu here is extensive and I think really shows off the culture in a great way. I can't say I've been to Myanmar (Burma). Really showing off my international IQ here. I would bet this would qualify as authentic. If we are going to refer back to the star of the show I'm going to make a wild statement. I think the coconut rice might be the star. Don't take something so simple and make it so good is really impressive. The complex simplicity of it all is amazing. I've had the tea leaf salad too which is a salad that actually tasted very good (shocking stuff). I had the shrimp here in this photo and it had a depth of flavors to it. The platha and the coconut dip was really nice too. You could tell it was homemade by how flakey it was. I mean you should really make a sandwich with this platha. It would be life changing.Besides this place being wildly overpriced, I really think its reputation is deserved.(4.4 Stars)

If you haven't experienced the magic of Burma Superstar yet, you're missing out on one of SF's hidden gems! The Tea Leaf Salad is an absolute must-try filled with tangy, salty, and crunchy layers of flavor. Another one of my go to's is the Pumpkin Pork Stew, a comforting dish that never disappoints. However, you really can't go wrong with anything on their menu. Burma Superstar is definitely a place worth visiting again and again!

This place was absolutely packed on a Friday night, but I was able to get seated outside pretty quickly. I really enjoyed the tea that they have for waiting customers, and all the servers were so nice! I got the nan gyi dok as a regular size, and it was so delicious! There were lots of different textures, and I really enjoyed the complex flavor profile.I wish I came with more people so that I could have tried more of the menu!!

I had a friend who was very excited to try this place and honestly I thought quite of the few options were just okay. Prices were really steep as well, but portion sizes were not bad.Tea Leaf Salad (4.25/5): My favorite item at the table, but I don't think it's significantly better than other times I've had it at other burmese restaurants. Great balance of fresh and slightly bitter, love the crunch of the peanuts against the slaw.Coconut Rice (3/5): Criminal to charge for rice and it's not super aromatic. Meh...Pumpkin Pork Stew (1.75/5): Pork was very very tough and even the pumpkin felt undercooked. Dish just felt under seasoned and I was super surprised that this was one of their popular options.Catfish Curry (3.25/5): They fry the catfish before saucing it and I enjoyed that texture. Catfish overall just isn't my favorite fish and the flesh is very very firm. Note that this is also bone in, so maybe don't order this one if you've got small children. I actually quite liked the sauce: tangy and spicy (they don't hold back!).

Made a reservation at Burma Superstar after hearing rave things about them. It was quite busy, but service was fast & friendly and it was perfect for a group lunch. We ordered an assortment of dishes and enjoyed each and every one.Thai iced tea -- classic, cool, refreshingTea Leaf Salad -- my favorite, love the crunch of different texturesMoh Hinga -- thicker catfish soup, very much a pleasant comfort noodle dishShan Noodles -- nice balance of textures & spicesCoconut Rice -- simple sweet & savoryChili Lamb -- second favorite dish, spices & seasoning for the lamb was deliciousBroccoli with Crispy Chicken -- standard crispy chicken & broccoli, reminded me of orange chickenThe overall food was quite yummy! The restaurant has a bustling and lively ambience, so making a reservation is highly recommended if you want to avoid long wait times. Think overall it was a bit overhyped as it tasted similar to other Burmese places I had with no standout dishes -- food was still decent though. It's a great spot for sharing flavorful Burmese dishes with friends or family.
