Such an amazing happy hour menu! 4 different hand rolls, 4 pieces of crispy rice and 2 pieces of sashimi for $30 !!The hand rolls were a crowd favorite - packed with fresh fish and avocado. Love the cozy, tiny ambiance inside too

Solid happy hour place! $5 offerings were a decent range of options. Small amount of seating (like 10 tables total including outside seating) so come earlier for happy hour and be ready to wait at least 30 min. Came on a Tuesday at 4:50pm and got seated at 5:34pm. Fish quality was good for the price! Not mind blowing, but fresh and delicious.Total bill was around $25 for one person which is not bad at all for a sushi meal. Will come again! Would be perfect if wait was a bit less!

WHAT A DEAL TO BEAT! Bubu's happy hour has definitely sparked some attention on social media so we had to go try it for ourselves. Even with all the rave we honestly were sat pretty quickly seeing that we came on a weekday (they also let people write their number down to walk around). First off--I'm still thinking about that butterfish crispy rice to this day!! Such a buttery, fresh, and perfectly crispy bite. I would almost go back just for that since it's such a unique sushi menu item. The 2 for $5 hand roll deal was such a gem especially in SF, however the seaweed was just super soggy for my liking. Overall the fish quality was pretty good but still had some tougher bites. Their happy hour menu was all pretty enticing--with lots of fried appetizers to try also (not pictured were our gyoza and calamari, both pretty average tasting appetizers nothing crazy). With everything being $5 we definitely over ordered out of excitement. So if you're looking for an affordable sushi happy hour this one is a worthwhile try--but be warned of some potential long wait times since it's a really small restaurant! *Bonus points bc they had warm hand towels and the cutest plates/sauce dipping trays:))

Sushi happy hours seem to be all the hype these days in SF. We tried to come for the first wave of happy hour around 4:30-5pm but not surprisingly, there was already a long wait. We decided to come back for the 2nd wave which starts up again at 8:30pm. My group of 4 arrived at 8pm to write our names down early but LOL damn we still didn't get seated until 9:15pm. The employee even told us there might not be a chance of us getting seated because they honor waiting list order over maximizing table arrangements.. Anyways onto the actual food - the fried appetizers were great. If we had to choose, the calamari was better than the kaarage. The hand rolls were large and filling. I thought the seaweed was a bit too soggy but it is quite a deal for the price. We also got the sashimi platters and they were decent. It wasn't the worst I've had but definitely not anything special. The yuzu sparklers were absolutely delicious tho.I would say it's worth trying as a small party of 2 if you don't mind waiting for happy hour prices. I don't regret going but just because of the inconvenience - I don't see myself frequenting any time soon :c

I had dinner here on a Wednesday evening (to avoid the weekend crowds) & was happy that we made it in time for their Happy Hour menu (which resulted in a bit of over ordering). We had: unagi avocado hand rolls, salmon avocado hand rolls, salmon & hamachi sashimi, calamari, chicken kara'age, takoyaki, gyoza & crispy bubu with spicy ahi. We ordered chicken tacos & beef bulgogi tacos but I didn't partake. My favorite items were the hand rolls, takoyaki, crispy bubu (deep fried rice cake) with spicy ahi. Service is friendly & helpful.Very cozy (small restaurant) but cute place.

Well the secret is truly out, the BuBu happy hour is definitely a popular spot to be, and the best part is that they offer it on Saturdays now too. The $5 happy hour at BuBu has to be one of the best deals I came across in 2024. They have so many items on there, but the best deal continues to be the 2 hand rolls for $5. They have like 5-6 different ones to pick from and honestly all of them have been tasty. The hamachi jalapeño and the spicy tuna are my favorites. On this last visit, they added some new items such as their tacos. While the tortillas doesn't really hold up, the shrimp and bulgogi tacos were both done very well. $5 gets you two tacos. They also had their crispy BuBu, which is crispy rice topped with fresh fish, the butter fish one was great. The walu sashimi, 3 pieces for $5, is an absolute steal and the pieces were thick. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area and need a budget friendly happy hour. We ordered a bunch of food and spent less than $60 and left full and happy. On Monday-Thursday it goes from 3:30-6pm and on friday/Saturday it goes til 5:30. Definitely come early bc the wait can be long since they don't have a huge space and just a handful of tables.

Originally ordered Takoyaki, two item bento and taiyaki. Takoyaki was good, nothing special. As for the Two Items was pretty small and did not think was worth the $18 but SF pricing you know. They ran out of Taiyaki N Matcha Ice Cream which was a bummer because I was craving it that day and didn't get any ):I would try their sushi next time, no for the bento.

Bubu has one of the best happy hour deals in the city! We came here around 4:30pm on a Saturday and waited around 30 mins to be seated. Their happy hour on the weekends is from 3:30-5:30pm so we made it just in time! They give you a sheet to fill out how many and which of the happy hour items you'd like and you can order from their regular menu as well. Their sashimi is so fresh, we got salmon sashimi and the pieces are also quite large. Their hand rolls are the best deal on their happy hour menu, you get 2 hand rolls for $5! My favorite is the spicy scallop hand roll. All the hand rolls came with avocado, which I wish it didn't because it changed the overall taste of some of them but it was still delicious! The karage was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and also came with some brussel sprouts for good balance. The crispy bubu's were interesting, it's nigiri but the rice is crispy and has soy sauce already. It's flavorful but a bit salty for me, I recommend not dipping it in additional soy sauce.

Was quite delicious and I would love to come back for happy hour. It's a small restaurant atmosphere so I suspect there could be a big wait if you don't come early. The service is a bit all over the place but they're so sweet so you can't be mad.

If you are planning to come for happy hour, come at least 30 minutes prior (even with a smaller party). My partner and I came 30 minutes before their happy hour opening time and we were probably one of the last parties to be seated - and this day it was raining. That'll show how good of a deal their happy hour is. While this restaurant is not my ultimate favorite HH in SF, it definitely is top 5. Their handrolls and yuzu honey sparkler are my must recommended. Chicken gyozas and karage are standard and good. If seated outside, last time we were there - there was only one heater for one side so choose wisely your seats.
