Bonito Poke

I've been searching around for a good poke bowl since I was spoiled by abundant & well priced quality poke bowl options when I lived in Hawaii. I think I found it (through Yelp)! I live a few blocks away so I swung by one afternoon & ordered their California bowl over all greens. The bowl was super fresh & featured big, quality chunks of tuna, probably the largest tuna cubes that I've encountered in a poke bowl in recent months. The avocado & imitation crab went well with the ahi & the bowl filled up my stomach. I was a happy camper for the rest of the day.Very friendly guy running the food truck. I was initially skeptical about Bonito Poke, but I was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the fish and generous portion sizes. While I would have liked the fish to be more marinated, they do offer a variety of drizzles and sauces like aiolis and soy sauces that you can add afterwards. The toppings, including seaweed salad, avocado, edamame, and cucumber, were a nice addition.Service is good. They take card and apple pay as well which makes the experience really easy. Since its a food truck there is no designated seating. However, there are many tables nearby the outside of pwc and chipotle. Its also close to Salesforce park so you can bring your food up thereOne thing to note is that when I went at 12:30, they had already run out of spicy tuna. So, I recommend going early as it seems their stock of certain items is limited. Overall, I had a satisfying experience at Bonito Poke and would recommend it to those looking for fresh and customizable poke bowls.

Fresh and yummy! Got the original bowl and it was exactly what was promised. The photo shows a double of the protein. It is on the pricey side but hey for fresh seafood that's the premium I guess. Fast service. There wasn't a line at the food truck. Quick grab and go meal that felt healthy.

Stay away from the Hawaiian BBQ. The chicken was drowning in some sort of sauce with smoke flavor. It was either dark chicken or white that was stained with the sauce. I didn't think I could ever experience bad chicken teriyaki and yet I just did. I thought the Hawaiian mac was mashed potato. It was disgusting. It was obviously old and it all stuck together like mashed potato. It had zero taste. It seemed it was frozen and thawed badly. I had an upset stomach and bad taste in my mouth for the rest of the day. I still can't believe how bad it was. I don't think I've ever written a bad food review. I am pretty easy going and know food cant always be good. This was just gross.

created my own bowl with salmon, which i was pleasantly surprised to discover was an option! generous portion of fish and crab salad and everything tasted fresh. food came out quick which was great for mid-workday pick up. the rice seemed like normal white rice rather than sushi rice, and I wish they had ponzu or a vinaigrette based dressing to choose, but overall solid meal.

Poke doke artichokey! No, Bonito does not sell artichoke. But they do scoop more than a dollop a daisy of toppings on your poke bowl. And then fish isn't good, ITTSSS GREAAT™. I try to eat gluten free and they stopped making their poke with tamari so I reached out and the owner brought me a whole separate batch made just for me because I asked in advance . So sweet. He also gave me a free drink when there was difficulty finding my GF poke. This is the best poke I have had in the city fins down.

I write this review after almost getting sick to my stomach and vomiting. This is by far, the number one worse product I have ever received from a food establishment. On April 9, 2024, I ordered their salmon bones from the Too Good To Go App. I expected a fresh fish product because of the poke that they sell on a daily basis. What I was given was a frozen lump of salmon bones. Other salmon bones that I received from other establishments were extremely fresh, not frozen. What Bonito Poke presented to me was a gray frozen lump which the employee had to dig deep into the freezer for. This was totally and utterly horrendous. I couldn't believe my eyes. After getting home and examining the fish bones, there was a dark ashy color and horrendous stench emitting from it. As a result, I traveled back to the food truck, which was a waste of time and gasoline to do so. When I returned to the food truck to express my disappointment at such an inferior product, all I received was a baffled look. No apology, no refund - only an offer of the same mess of garbage. I, in no way was going to subject myself to such trash again, therefore, I declined and left with NO APOLOGY, NO REFUND, NO EFFORT TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT. I was not about to accept such a load of crap again or take that chance. I am not sure about the taste or quality of their menu, however, I would seriously think about ordering from the menu because if they have old, stinky, smelly, and rotten salmon bones to sell, who knows the quality and state of the ingredients they are using. I reiterate this is the worse product received from any food establishment in my life. Good luck to those and their stomachs that patronize them. I assure you, it would be a big mistake, and a chance I would not be willing to taken if you value your life. Escribo esta reseña después de casi sentirme mal del estómago y vomitar. Sin disculpas, sin reembolso, solo una oferta del mismo desastre de basura. Yo, de ninguna manera iba a volver a someterme a semejante basura, por lo tanto, rechacé y me fui SIN DISCULPAS, SIN REEMBOLSO, SIN ESFUERZO PARA HACER LAS COSAS BIEN. No estaba dispuesto a aceptar semejante montón de basura otra vez ni a correr ese riesgo. No estoy seguro del sabor o la calidad de su menú, sin embargo, pensaría seriamente en ordenar del menú porque si tienen espinas de salmón viejas, apestosas, malolientes y podridas para vender, quién sabe la calidad y el estado de los ingredientes. ellos están usando. The two or three days a week that this truck is here at howard and 1st street, Bonito is the best poke I have found in the city. I have tried several actual storefronts in the area and they pale in comparison. Unfortunately with that they are also easily the most expensive. They also have raised their price several times since I first started coming two years ago, and have come out with smaller packaging. Any much smaller, or more expensive, and I may have to say goodbye to my favorite truck...

I'm honestly shocked I haven't updated this sooner because this is literally the ONLY poke I eat anymore (I am not exaggerating). The first time I had it was already pretty good but everytime after just got even BETTER! The key? Tuna, tuna, and MORE TUNA! I'm so glad my boyfriend got me to give tuna a chance because it is magical. Usually tuna is one of my least favorites - but the tuna here is just SO good! The chunks are massive and just have a wonderful texture to them. I've tried a few of the bowls and all have been tasty but my favorite would have to be the bonito bowl! I get all my bowls with salad greens as a base and I felt that the sauce for this one works best - nice and creamy! I also love the roasted edamame, it adds such a great flavor and the texture is different than regular edamame. It's pretty cheap to add toppings as well, with some as low as 25 cents so I tend to customize with each bowl. As for the size, I can definitely finish a bowl in one go, but I'm also always super full (and remember, this is with salad). I honestly find it to be a super great deal! Now for service, I wasn't able to comment the last time as a friend ordered and picked it up, but I ordered myself this time and was at awe by the amazing service! I called without realizing they weren't taking orders yet, but the person helping me on the phone was very kind and said they'd call me back at 1. I received a call literally on the dot for my order! Most places would have you call back on your own but I was really surprised that they took the extra step to call us back themselves! Bonito Poke is amazing and you 100% must give it a try!!
