We went to Bombay Brasserie for dinner on Christmas and enjoyed it! We had combined it with a visit to Union Square. Sadly the Christmas tree experience at Union Square has deteriorated over the years but we were glad to end it on a high note with dinner. As others have noted they did seem to be short staffed so it was hard to get their attention, however our server Lilian was super efficient and kind.We enjoyed the wine more than the cocktails. The butter chicken was one of the best I have had in the bay area. Definitely expensive but worth a shot especially if you are in the area. We went with our toddler and while they did not do anything special for him like offer a sippy cup or a kids menu - we did not feel uncomfortable bringing him which was nice. We did have to park the stroller in the lobby which made me slightly uncomfortable.

Ate here using my $100 credit from booking a room.Food wasn't bad, I've definitely had better Indian food but this place was decent. We were walk ins to dinner and the server asked if we had reservations and we said no. She stated that she could seat us but we'd have to be gone within the next hour and a half. That's fine with me because we ate within 45 min. I ordered the curry prawn with basmati rice, I'd skip next time considering the curry came with 4-5 pieces of shrimp is an orange curry sauce. I think next time I'll opt for the Bistro menu instead of eating Indian food.

I went for dinner as I had $100 in credit via the hotel upstairs, I do live in San Francisco.First of all, good god what is with these price points? I assure you that this is not "what Union Square costs". Even the Times Square Olive Garden manages to keep prices not silly.I got the Chicken Biryani ($36) and the garlic naan ($8), with just sparking water ($12!) to drink. Both were perfectly fine, but the portions are all out of wack. The biryani could have probably been split by two people but it was only one piece of naan. The dining room is decent, but nothing special. It was not busy on a Thursday night, so the party of 7 tech bros (that's gender neutral) dining clearly on the company tab and discussing their favorite tech conferences was the main thing I could hear. Now the service: If you're going to put 18% automatic gratuity on absolutely every check, make sure it isn't disjointed and slow, especially if you think your place is "fine dining". Also fix your front door so it, you know, opens?Absolutely skip this place unless you have credits from upstairs or I guess like to spend $75 for one person to have chicken, rice, bread and water.I highly recommend going to Rooh about a mile away instead if you want actual Indian fine dining in a far superior environment with actual service.

Went for breakfast. People joke online "Japan is living in 2050." It should be the Bombay Brasserie is living in 2050. Slow service (15 minutes for water, 30 for everything else.), cold food, and people getting up and leaving consistently, and a whole host of other things. How are they living in 2050? They add an 18% automatic gratuity to your bill. "We're going to give you a bad experience and you'll still be required to tip." They've cracked the code. I've been sitting here for about an hour and a half. No refills on my water, and I still haven't received my check. There are several diners in Union Square with cheaper, better food. Just go to one of those.ETA: Ah, everything takes an extended amount of time except for the check. They'll make sure you receive that quickly after asking.

Very good for a hotel restaurant. They say they have the flavors of India with a French twist.Went here for breakfast while I was staying at the Taj, and even though they were listed as closed for the day (Sunday), they were in fact open for breakfast.I ordered a mango lassi and a Campton Benedict. The mango lassi came with a small diameter paper straw and was very hard to drink, but had good flavor. I should have asked for a spoon to make it easier to consume. The Campton Benedict is a crab cake benedict and was filled with minced crab. I was surprised at how much crab was in it. Crab cake benedicts can be very hit or miss, but this one was definitely a hit. Nice and crispy on the outside of the crab cake. When I ordered, they asked me how I would like my egg poached, which is very rare. Most places don't like poaching eggs and just give it to you however it comes out. I ordered it soft poached for that good runny yolk perfect for a benny. Came out perfect! Served with potatoes, even though it isn't stated on the menu.Very attentive servers that made sure my water was always full. This can be an issue for me at some places because I drink a lot of water very fast. The dining area was very upscale yet relaxed feeling. Not loud at all and perfect if you're hungover and just looking for a place to eat in peace. They have single use ketchup on the table, which is common at more upscale places and I prefer it because I've seen the way some people (and their kids) use their condiments. When the bill came, saw a mandatory gratuity charge, which I was not a fan of. I believe it was 18%. And maybe it was on there because I was using a breakfast credit and some people don't tip? Not sure, but there was no mention of it before and I'm not a fan of that. If it's mandatory, just build it in to your pricing or list it on the menu.Overall, good food. Just not happy about being surprised by a mandatory gratuity charge. Also, a tip for the wise: be careful ordering the "Indian Breakfast". Depending on your selections, the food may be cheaper ordering a la carte than at their meal price.

We had a lovely breakfast during our brief stay at the Taj Campton. We ordered the Indian breakfast that came with a mango lassi (delicious) and masala chai tea along with our choice of entree. The masala chai was good but not as flavorful as I wanted. I got the omelette and my husband got the lentil pancakes. Both entrees were very tasty. The service is superb and if you get there early, you can get booth seating which makes the dining experience so much more comfortable and enjoyable. Would highly recommend this hotel and eatery!

TL;DR - Very good food, but the service could ruin the whole dining experience. We were really excited that this upscale Indian restaurant opened in SF and couldn't wait to try it. We were celebrating two 50th birthdays and wanted to end the day with a nice dinner. We reserved a table for 5 PM, and they were very accommodating when we called that afternoon to reschedule for 7:30 PM. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and seated immediately. The restaurant was almost full, but only two servers were taking food and drink orders. Both of them came by to take our order, and we received our drinks without any delay. However, there seemed to be some confusion. Our food was delayed significantly, and we had to ask a couple of times for water refills. When we expressed our dissatisfaction with the service, the gentleman who served us appeared visibly unhappy. The unfriendly servers and the delay in food delivery really detracted from the overall experience. The hostess, who seated us and tried to help the servers with water refills and drink service, was very friendly and did her best, but it was clear that she wasn't in charge. Now, onto the food--this was the highlight:Le Tandoor- King Salmon: Perfectly cooked with the right flavors.- Prawns: Too salty and overcooked. This was the only disappointment - Bhatti ka Murg: Rightly spiced, juicy chicken thighs grilled to perfection.A Partagez- Chicken 65: Very good, with authentic flavors and the right amount of spice.Les Plat- Kerala Beef Pepper Fry: Excellent, with authentic local Kerala beef fry flavor, served with Kerala Porotta.Mandatory 18% gratuity was a mood killer too, especially when the service didn't deserve that

Food was fresh tasting and well prepared. Just the right amount of spice level. Waiter was kind but had too many table to cover. Beautiful room to enjoy a fantastic meal. Their sister restaurant is in London, how cool is that.

Right from the romantic ambience to the food and the service is to die for, John, Edwin and Lillian served us so well and even all the other staff. Lilian really went out of her way to make us feel so welcomed and the manager even offered to give us free valet parking when shared that we parked on the adjacent street. We order lotus roof kofta, chicken biryani, naan and lamb soup. Really enjoyed the cocktails as well. It was sooo good and I could feel the quality and freshness of the ingredients in the food and drinks. They even gave us desert(complimentary) when we shared that it was our anniversary last weekend. Made us feel so special. Thank you Taj, for sharing your warm hospitality with us.

Enjoyed a wonderful meal with wife and little one and would highly recommend. Thanks to Lilian and Eligeo who made a solid team and expertly managed a busy floor, frequently swinging by to check on our needs despite a high volume of customers coming through for a Friday night dinner.Overall: solid customer service, nice ambience and a place where the food and drinks come out at just the right pace such that you don't feel rushed. The food presentation and quantity is akin to a tapas-style where dishes are easily shareable and if you're hungry or in a group, can definitely try a few items across the menu to get some variety. Food: Duck samosa - looked a little bit more like an empanada - but overall a nice variation on a typical samosa. We also tried some dahi puri (slightly more like a traditional dahi puri) and paniyaram (latter reminded my wife of the spice profile of her mom's home cooking). Main course lamb ragonjosh had a nice kick and just right on the spice. Cocktails: Adraki Punch and Paan, with the latter especially with a notably smooth finish. Dessert: Ended with a coconut pudding pictured here which is dairy free (wouldn't have been able to tell). Great offering if you have any folks in your party who have a dairy allergy - but I'd choose it again even if that were not the case.
