Wow, Wow. This has always been my favorite SF restaurant is still the best in town. 4 of us had an astonishing dinner last night. From the Martini's to the banana Foster. I had the trout which was really delicate and melts in your mouth. My friend ordered the filet. Shrimp cocktail was great and oh yes the service is impeccable. The ambiance is very elegant.

My family and I went to Bix for my mom's birthday. We arrived around 5 and the restaurant was about half way full. The restaurant itself and ambiance is very nice. Around 6, the live music started. We enjoyed some drinks before ordering our appetizers. I ordered the pisco punch, which was very good. Slightly sweet, slightly sour, and refreshing. Others ordered a French 75, the Gold Rush, and Pear Blossom. Everyone seemed to like their drinks. We ordered the marrow bones and sampler to start. The sampler came with the potato pillow, truffle cheese croques, and the deviled egg. The potato pillow was definitely the star of the show. The outside was nice and crispy with a soft inside and pleasant salty taste from the caviar. The truffle cheese croques tasted like a simple grilled cheese, but were still very enjoyable. The deviled egg had a slight truffle flavor. They were good, but not my favorite. The bone marrow was also delicious. Slightly salty and rich. It also came with a parsley, caper, onion salad which paired nicely with the bread and bone marrow. For entrees, we ordered the pork chops, braised short ribs, poached cod, veal potpie, and chicken hash. I ordered the chicken hash and it was ... okay. It was pretty underwhelming. The chicken didn't have much flavor and the puree underneath was slightly sweet. I also ordered the truffle risotto, which was delicious, it definitely saved my meal. My mom ordered the veal pot pie and loved it. My fiance ordered the short ribs, which were good... but not great. My sister ordered the fish and, again, it was a bit bland. My dad ordered the pork chops and they were also pretty good, but nothing crazy. We ended the meal with the fig leaf panna cotta and poached pears. Our waiter was kind enough to put a candle in my mom's dessert. Both of the desserts were very enjoyable. They were not overwhelmingly sweet, and had pleasant textures to balance out the dish. My fiance also ordered the espresso martini, which had a nice rich coffee flavor. Although the entrees were just okay, the overall experience was very enjoyable. The service was spectacular. Our table was constantly cleaned, our dishes were always replaced, and our waiter was very pleasant. The appetizers, drinks, and desserts also made up for the entrees! I will definitely come back for drinks, desserts, and appetizers. As for entrees, I will need to find something different.

BIX is a fantastic spot for a memorable dining experience. The space is absolutely stunning, with a chic, vintage vibe that's enhanced by live music playing in the background--definitely a special touch! It's also perfect for sharing a variety of dishes with friends or a group, which is always a plus. The standout dishes for me were the lobster linguine (cooked to perfection!) and the tableside tomato cart, which was a unique and delightful touch. The service was attentive and thoughtful throughout the meal.

Overrated in my book. The restaurant itself was nice looking with the grand stairs. There's live music and the ambiance is nice. That being said, for the price we pay here, food and service didn't live up to the high rating.I made a reservation way ahead of time of a family member's birthday requesting booth seats. When we arrived, they put up in a corner tiny table that's right outside the door to the kitchen. No cool. Then the food we ordered was very underwhelming. The only tasty item was the potato pillow appetizer. Service was also lacking and we just didn't have a good time there. Maybe it's an off night for them, but I won't be back.

Solid spot for a date or to catch up after work. I especially love the wall art in the bar area and the live jazz music. Service was smooth. We started out with the Truffled Cheese "Croques" and the Marrow Bones, then each had the Dungeoness Crab Pasta (I think it was Tagliatelle). The Truffled Cheese Croques were good, though I could probably have made these myself. The Marrow Bones were great -- definitely a sizeable portion. Given the richness of these starters, I would probably choose one or the other next time. Our main dish, however, was light enough that we weren't too stuffed when we were done. The sauce was light and loved the balance of cirtus, corn, and dungeoness crab. I would definitely come back for the food and the experience.

Don't ever go to Bix. There is a manager there that tells the waiters to inform a person at a table "I am sorry Sir you were over Served and have to leave!". This allows them to flip a table. Very Disturbing! Food is not good. No Star.

We came here for a holiday lunch. They don't normally open for lunch so that was a treat. The interior is beautiful and feels like a speakeasy from the past. Luckily, I was able to find street parking half a block away! We began with the steak tartare and deviled eggs. The tartare was mild in flavor and the crunchiness of the toast paired well with the texture of the beef. The deviled eggs were delicious! My friend had the lobster spaghetti, which he really liked. I thought the chicken has was good, but not great. I made sure to save some room for dessert. I ordered the poached pear and my friend ordered the gold street foster. The pear was nicely spiced and not too sweet. The foster, on the other hand, was decadently sweet! Both were yummy!

Stopped by for a friends wedding celebration. We were all running late but some of us arrived before the whole party so we chose to wait at the bar before being seated. We ordered a round of drinks & shortly after, the rest of the party arrived so we went upstairs. Our server Michael was very attentive, thank you for your patience as we were a big group & were all in celebratory mode. The complimentary bread & butter was the perfect starter. The bread was crispy, warm & soft on the inside. Everything we all had was perfect, flavorful & filling. All fresh & good quality. The ambiance is very dim, intimate & they had a live band that really added to the vibe. (Minus one star because the bartender that helped us downstairs seemed a bit annoyed by the group & the fact that we wanted to pay for our drinks separately, I didn't realize it was that big of a deal, we all ordered individually)

This place has a great relaxing old school lounge vibe. We sat on the second floor in the back in a big booth. Live piano music was playing for most of the night and it was perfect background ambiance. We were 6 and able to talk, catch up and have a great time. Service was pretty attentive, except they did take away my half eaten piece of bread without me seeing and I wasn't done with it. We ordered a variety of appetizers. There wasn't one that blew me away. The bread was just average too. The crab on top of the toast was good but it's not worth the price. The deviled eggs were pretty good. If I were to get an appetizer again I would get that. They also can match the serving size of the appetizer to how many people are in your party. My entree was amazing. The snapper was meaty and delicious. I could eat the skin too because it was crunchy. The greens with it were a nice touch. It was very big and filling. Expensive at $55. I tried my friend's truffle burger and that was delicious too. That was a huge meal and I think $36. The truffle wasn't overpowering and the rye bread added a good heartiness to it. I tried the sole also but it didn't compare to my snapper, the flavor of the snapper was more mild, like chicken and just meatier and better. But I think that's just because I prefer Snapper. We got a bunch of desserts. The bread pudding tasted more like a dense rich brownie. It had whipped cream on top but really needed ice cream. The best dessert was the panna cotta, it had more complex flavors to it. It was very delicate and the texture was spot on. I got the pisco punch to drink, and it was sour and sweet. It didn't say what was in it except that it had tears of cherubs or something like that. So I mean I had to get it. There is an extra San Francisco fee they charged to the bill. It was around $120 a person, though we did order a lot of food and drinks. Great place to have a fancy dinner for a special event or to bring a client.

Came to celebrate a birthday dinner with a group of friends. Made a reservation beforehand. The ambience of the restaurant is very nice. We sat in the upstairs balcony, which is extremely beautiful and were excited for the experience. Everyone ordered an appetizer and entrée and while the appetizers were amazing the entrées were pretty lackluster. The entrées that we had for selection sounded a lot more enticing than they actually were. We did not enjoy the service. Our waiter seem to be very pushy and didn't want to give us proper time to sit and eat and chat with each other despite having one of the last reservations prior to closing (so it's not like there were other reservations after us that the table would be needed for). At the end of the night we tipped generously for our experience. Before walking out, our waiter came out telling us that we needed to tip more because she had to pay out additional staff. We ended up tipping additional amount just to avoid conflict, but definitely left a sour taste in our mouth. Definitely would never be back. That was just extremely unprofessional in our opinion. While I believe an experience and ambiance can save a restaurant when the food is more lackluster, for us the food and the experience were poor quality so I just can't justify going back.
