Did some research.. I'm a private Chef in the Bay Area. Trying to find a great seafood market can be.. difficult. This place made me happy, especially being a seafood chef.I came in during Happy Hour.. Which I would highly recommend because oysters are half off during this time. Not only can you get some super fresh fish but you can also sit down and enjoy their beautiful menu while you wait for them to finish the work that you asked them to do!So I was trying to get some seabass and they had some beautiful seabass from Baja.. I exclaimed my situation to them which was that I needed 10 six ounce portions and they gave me options - including being able to break down a fresh bass while I wait. So I ordered food while I waited!Besides getting excellent customer service, got to watch the fish being prepared, while I enjoyed some super fresh St. Simon oysters, scallop ceviché, and a cup of clam chowder. So I'm feeling good because I'm watching the fish being prepped, and then I'm also seeing my food being prepared right in front of me.. There is no mystery, no questions to be asked.. You see exactly what you get!Amazing service, amazing quality, people that are happy and pay attention to detail... Fresh selection and great tinned fish/imported goods like matsutake shoyu!Highly recommend for so many reasons. Cute, personable, quality.. The only place that I want to get my fish from from now on!

Loved it!! Clean well priced seafood. Cafe style . East coast/west coast vibe. Oysters best I've had in SF this year!Only down side for me ....they serve Cava but not Prosecco LOL. Personal preference :)

There's a nice outdoor seating area right next to this restaurant. You can order your food to go and have it out there. Order some oysters, shrimp cocktail and clam chowder. Great set up for a picnic when you don't want to pack ahead and prefer to pick up.

I wish I could give this place a better rating, but the service is consistently awful. You'll wait in line for at least 5-15 minutes because the staff is too slow and disinterested. They seem inexperienced, and I've personally seen people leave because of the slow service. Unfortunately, this happens every time I visit.

SUMMARY: Incredibly fresh food, attention to detail, amazing decor, friendly and helpful staff!!!We arrived here right when happy hour started; luckily we ended up being the only ones there. Billingsgate is in a great location to walk around before or after your meal. First impressions upon walking in was being greeted by the friendly staff and seeing the clean and simple interior. We came here for the happy hour oysters but ended up ordering much more, which turned out to be a phenomenal decision because everything was so good. Put this place HIGH on your list of places to try! Here's what we ordered with some tasting notes. Walking into this place felt like entering a fancy fish market. They offer sit-down meals, take-away options, and cuts of the most divine seafood. We enjoyed a poke bowl, which was delicious but lacked diversity and crunch. I wish there were more toppings and that the price was more reasonable.

Service was really nice. Food was tiny and not very good. Probably better to buy fish here then eat dinner.

This is definitely a first class seafood counter that also doubles as an oyster bar. It gives a cute café vibe, with the freshest most high quality oysters you'll ever encounter. Oysters are truly my favorite, and I'm a bit of an oysterologist so believe me when I say, the oysters they carry are definitley high quality and delicious. The oyster selection is as follows;St Simon: hails from Shippagan New Brunswick Canada, and has A dynamic sharp brine taste. The shell is brown and light bodied with supple meat and a sweet mineral finish on the backend. I never had these before like EVER...However, they quickly became my favorite over my favorite lolMiyagi: Originally was cultured in Japan but now hails from Washington state. they have fluted shells. Large portions of meat, and have a savory tangy backend. These are my all time favorite oysters. Standish Shore: Grown in Duxbury Massachusetts with a sweet buttery smooth texture. I think if your a beginner at eating oysters these would be a great choice for you.Shigoku: These oysters are cultivated in Washington state. The meat on these oysters seem to be plump and springy. They require a little more chew in my opinion and has a cumber taste on the backend.Hope this helps!
