We had yummy mango and Ube desserts! WiFi not available or strong, but the daughter of the owner was super nice and as she was closing up gave us some other treats from the Philippines which was very kind of her. She offered us the Ube dessert. I had ordered the mango one. I'd come again to order in bulk. Here I just ordered a quick bite since I had been eating my feelings lately (recovering from a breakup and overeating). Place is cute and very quiet! Also comfy.

Barfia is a very chic cafe with aesthetic vibes. They have a small menu. What intrigued me was their barfi which is Indian milk fudge. At $3.75 each, they're pricey but I saw some interesting flavors and decided to get a box of 8 to share at home. Tried: peanut butter, ube, mango, pistachio and khoya. I was hyped to taste this but sadly it was pretty disappointing. The texture is a little off putting for me and the flavors are all fairly mild. I did some googling and discovered that barfi is actually super easy to make. It's simply milk powder + ghee + sugar water. You just mix and add whatever flavors you want but everything comes together very easily so I'm not sure why it's so expensive. The presentation is beautiful but taste was sadly disappointing

I was in the area for a hair cut and had heard about this place from a friend who visited their store in London and raved about it and when I walked by the store I knew I had to check out the barfis.Growing up I had the fortune of eating a lot of barfi and peda in Calcutta and know my sweets !!! Barfi comes from the word 'burf or barf' which means snow/ice in Persian and Urdu. And if you look at the dessert in its simple, original form, you would see how the name makes perfect sense...this is a milk based sweet flavored traditionally with cardamom, rose essence and nowadays - creativity is the limit !!!I got the Khoya and the Mango Coconut flavored Barfi and my favorite was the Khoya one - call me traditional but that one felt like I was coming home!I will go back anytime I am in the area - if you are in San Mateo you gotta visit Barfia and it's woman-owned #forthewin

Friendly servers. The place has a chill vibe. They have puzzles and games on their table for those who want to hang out for a bit. The breakfast sandwich (ube pan de sal) is delicious and so filling. Their barfi is colorful and yummy! My favorite is the ube coconut. Give it a try!

Previously The Spot, I noticed there's new spot (no pun intended) in my neighborhood so I feel obligated to check this out. The moment I entered, there's comfortable seating and a nice, homey experience. Not a lot of seats, but comfortable. They have different kinds of pastries, some interesting barfi, drinks, and even have a handful of hot breakfast & lunch menu. Their service was also great. The owners were really nice and kind, and YES! This is women owned. As fellow woman, I'm so proud of them! I tried their pastries and they have great chocolate croissant! Their danish cheese & jelly was also tasty (I usually always disappointed because the "cheese" was always too sweet). Haven't tried the ube yet but I'm sure it will be good!

Nice coffee shop with cozy vibes and tasty treats. The Chilli Paneer Empanadas had really good flavor. Albeit the outer covering felt a little sweet over time. The barfis were quite tasty but slightly on the pricier side IMO.Service was friendly. Definitely recommend a visit to this local business.

How refreshing and homey. As Starbucks is making their stores unfriendly for anyone who wants to sit down, read the paper or chat with friends, here is a friendly establishment with inviting seating, free internet, and great coffee. Also delicious breakfast sandwiches and bagels with cream cheese. It's an Indian place started in London but fits great on 25th Avenue in San Mateo.

Super cute family run cafe! The ambiance is vibrant and inviting. Leslie and Rupinder were extremely friendly and welcoming and offered me a sample of the barfi. I was super grateful for the experience as it left such a wonderful taste in my mouth. I tried the beef empanadas and the peanut butter/chocolate barfi; both were super tasty and flavorful. I will definitely be back in the future!

This should be your go to local morning cafe in san mateo. The couch and the atmosphere is as cozy as it gets. The breakfast sandwich is made w/ care. The vibe created here is just right.
