Impeccably prepared pasta paired with an excellent wine list. All staff were friendly and welcoming and the service was excellent. Nothing to complain about here, and I was a HUGE Locanda fan.Side note - we did have an issue at no fault of the restaurant that the owner actually called me about to address. That's the kind of thing customers remember and return back for.

I think this place has reoriented my baseline for five star reviews. The quality of the food, dark and moody ambience, and immaculate service made this a dining experience that I would like to repeat over and over again. Is it traditional Italian? No, but you don't come here for that. You come for the innovation and creativity! Not one dish disappointed. Every dish was at least one person's favorite at our table. For the antipasti, we ordered the Acciughe (anchovies) and the Sformatino (honey nut squash custard). The savory-sour hit of the Acciughe was an explosion of flavor while the Sformatino brought a delectable creamy experience. For the primi, we ordered the Tajarin al Burro e Salvia, Malloreddus, and Pappardelle. My god, the Tajarin al Burro e Salvia was simple but RICH and my favorite pasta of the night, a mix of a very eggy thin noodle, melted better, sage and cheese. The Malloreddus made for lively discussion at our table, a saffron pasta dish with sausage and a crunch(!). The Pappardelle was the most classic dish of the night and well executed with premium meats. For dolci, we shared a Budino. It's described as a chocolate hazelnut pudding, but I would liken it more to a cross between custard and flan. It was rich, creamy and NOT TOO SWEET!Finally, our server Emmelle was a standout. She was attentive and patient and did a great job walking us through the menu. I'm itching for my next visit here. Make sure you drop by too!

So happy for a yummy and well decorated Italian restaurant conveniently in the Mission! Barberio Osteria has amazing pasta and the most wonderful service. We came on a friday night (without reservation) and were seated right away. The restaurant itself is very spacious, pretty dark (so excellent for date nights?), mansion-feel, there is a large section in the back and in the front as well, and plenty of bar seating. For our first visit, we came for pasta and were very pleased. The menu seems to be updated with the latest seasonal offerings which is so exciting because this means, we'll get to try new things every time we visit :) We ordered these pastas and highly recommend: - Cappelletti (filled with autumn squash, mascarpone, parm, and serviced with brown butter, sage, toasted hazelnuts, pomegranates, and saba. If you take a look at my picture you'll see how beautiful each cappelletti is (they are a little bit bigger than a tortellini and have thicker dough, reminded me a little bit of wontons but with ticker dough). LOVED it, we wanted more. It was rich but not overwhelming, every bite left us wanting more!- Maccheroni alla chitarra (guinea fowl ragu, fennel, red onion, chili, porcini, tomatoes, roaster sweet peppers, capers, olives, parm). This was divine. The pasta was like thick spaghetti, and the ragu itself was well-balanced with all the other ingredients in the dish and every mouth was a little bit of a flavor and texture bombFor our first visit, we didn't make it to secondi but you bet we'll be back! We wrapped up our wonderful dinner with a strawberry sorbetto and you get two lil scoops of the most fresh and fruit-foward sorbetto you can find around town*CHEF's KISS* overall

Food was okay. Rice ball appetizer and the winter squash was the best by far. Everything else was ok.

I'm so happy that there's a new Californian Italian restaurant. The chef travelled to Italy a lot and his food reflected his experience there.- Black truffle agnolotti was excellent. - My partner really enjoyed the pappadelle- The salad was refreshing with seasonal citrus.I will check out AltoVino next. It's their sister restaurant.

Had dinner here with a few friends recently and we had a fabulous experience! Everything was delicious, from the appetizers to our pasta dishes and dessert. Our waitress was super attentive to our food allergies as well, which was appreciated. The bottle of wine we shared was excellent, and the manager even came over to give us a taste of another wine on the house. These little touches made the experience stand out. The ambiance here is elevated and polished yet familial--warm hospitality and friendly staff. Great for a date, celebration dinner, or special night out. We will be back!

Overall, everything was good, but I'd basically call it "as expected" for an upscale Italian place in SF. I enjoyed the meal and the ambiance, but probably a one-and-done spot for me. Starters: prosciutto, ascolane, anchovies, sformatino. Clear winner was the sformatino. Creamy and delicious butternut squash. Prosciutto was also really good, with a nice portion and buttery, crispy gnoccho frito. Mains: whole rockfish, paccheri, and cod. The whole rockfish was nice, substantial portion of meaty pieces with a crispy exterior. Cod had a soft, buttery mouthfeel. Pasta was cooked al dente, which I like, but overall flavor was nothing super exciting. Overall, worth a trip if you've been to the standard SF Italian stalwarts repeatedly and are looking to change it but a bit, but wouldn't say you have to hit this spot.

Best Italian restaurant in town! Best restaurant period. The service is hands down the best I've ever received. The manager Saul (pronounced sal-ual) is top tier! Thank you so much for everything!

First time here. Food was delicious--the insalata and Bronzino with sides. Service was excellent. The music was distractingly bad--covers of iconic songs--and detracted from the clean, modern, warmly lit setting.
