Mi Yucatan has been serving Yucatanean cuisine for several years now, and I had enjoyed their mondongo before, basically their version of menudo (review: https://yelp.to/n0k87qX6j4). However, it looks like they're expanding their menu to include a robust selection of breakfast specials under a new moniker. A good thing since the Mission doesn't have many breakfast spots beyond breakfast burritos at taquerias and of course, Jim's (review: https://yelp.to/Wdzapjq_N2).The menu is pretty extensive, full pages devoted to main dishes, breakfast burritos, eggs Benedict, and juices. The last page listed omelettes, pancakes, bagels, and French toast (interestingly no waffles). I went overboard and ordered the $16.99 Strawberry Banana French Toast. It was quite a sight. There were two thick slices of Brioche bread covered in egg yolk, saturated in butter, and layered with a ring of sliced bananas arranged like dominos ready to topple. It was topped with thinly sliced strawberries shaped like a blooming rose (photo: https://yelp.to/GiPTFQkkYj). Yes, it came with a ramekin of syrup. I don't think it was maple. More likely agave. While the execution was impressive, I have to say the cumulative result was just too sweet for my taste. Perhaps if I tried the $19.99 French Toast Combo, I could've counterbalanced the sweetness with savory elements like bacon and eggs, but even my belly has its limits.FOOD - 3 stars...a nice presentation but just too sweet for meAMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...still the same space it's been as Mi YucatánSERVICE - 3.5 stars...attentive enoughTOTAL - 3 stars...I'll come back for the more savory side of the menu RELATED - Exploring the Mission? Reading about the breakfast burritos being disappointed and now I've joined the club. Ordered the California breakfast burrito. Chicken was stringy and way overcooked. Tin foil was wrapped into the layers of the burrito. Was super disappointed to pay $25 for something so unappealing.

My first time here, this place wasn't crowded when I went here, but they were getting a ton of door dash orders. The reviews kept talking about the French toast, which was odd to me, but I had to see what the hype was all about. The place was clean and nicely decorated with pictures and paintings. Everything is made fresh to order, so be prepared to wait. We ordered:1. French Toast: This definitely was true to the hype. It was so fluffy and sweet. It didn't need syrup.2. Chilaquiles - The chips were crunchy and had a light kick. Like once you start eating, you can't stop. This definitely hit the spot. 3. Chorizo breakfast burrito - So flavorful and meaty. Perfect ratio of chorizo, egg, and beans. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to come back.

I ordered the Chorizo Breakfast burrito. The place that I usually get my breakfast burritos are closed on Sundays. So today I gave Ariels Breakfast a chance. Honestly, I am disappointed. I was really hungry and was looking forward to my meal. I ordered for take out, I'm not sure if they make their burritos much nicer for people that eat in the restaurant but it looked like a burrito you would get from the frozen section at Safeway. The burrito itself felt so watery when I was unwrapping it. Luckily, I didn't make a mess but I did eat it with caution. I ordered it with avocado specifically and had none of it inside my food. That is the reason why I'm writing this review because they did not add avocado, the main thing that I wanted on it. Too much meat, not enough vegetables like the ones that are mentioned when you order. It was just the chorizo and watery beans. I did not even eat the whole burrito, it was not satisfying at all.

Roaming the neighborhood and was originally gonna hit up one of the taquerias. Then I stumbled onto this low key gem. Looks like they do some breakfast, both Mexican and American, as well as some hearty entrees with some pointing to Yucatán roots. The kind server approached me and timidly disclosed her limited English. I scanned the menu real quick and just pointed to an item. Easy peasy. Bistec con Papas ($17/5*) Very homey in that I've eaten this dish at many Mexican and El Salvadoran homes, and this was dead on spot on. Serious cooking skills. The beef ain't nothing special, probably sirloin or round sliced super thin. But it is gloriously bathing in this balanced tomatillo sauce laced with a stealthy kick of black pepper. All of a sudden that not so special beef is absorbing all those flavors. Super impressed. This monster plate also comes with a tad of rice, a few Yukon gold potatoes and this black bean purée that almost resembled a soup. And when that flavor bomb of a sauce was allowed to meld with everything else, just took me back to someone's mom or grandmas table. The tortillas they gave out were super thick and fresh. I would just plunge the supple tortillas in the piping hot sauce and beans. I could of made a meal just outa that. Can't wait to try some of their soups/stews. This place transported me. When a place does that, can't leave less than a fiver. A personal rule of mine.

So me and my boyfriend have been craving and wanting a chorizo breakfast burrito for the longest time. Although there are many Mexican restaurants around the city, we just could never come across good reviews on breakfast burritos. I seen this place had a Chorizo breakfast burrito to offer yet only had one review. So we decided to take a chance on it. & Boy am I happy we took that chance. If you are looking for a big, hearty chorizo burrito, you definitely need to try this place out. Pretty pricey for a burrito but definitely worth it. It normally has eggs, chorizo, beans, cheese and sour cream, but we decided to not add sour cream. Haven't gotten the chance to try anything else from this place, but if we decide to order something else from here, i'll be sure to update this review! Take the chance and try this out!
