I love the market, the ambience and the selection is great.I'm giving only a mediocre rating because the famous turkey sandwich is just deeply disappointing. The turkey is flavorless and very thick cut (excusable but less than ideal) and the sandwich is under-dressed.Roast turkey doesn't have to be flavorless. Turkey should be salty and savory. Any turkey sandwich should have bacon. And then a remoulade would be nice, something creamy and peppery.

Everyone comes here for the turkey sandwiches and it didn't impress or fail. It's a solid sandwich, delicious on dutch cruch. Turkey was a bit dry, Definitely order it with avocado and extra onions. Nothing to go out of your way to get. Pricing still reasonable for a sandwich in SF.

Countless times over the years, I've blown past Arguello Market without giving it much thought. Usually because I'm on my way somewhere else, but I also can't say I've ever had much of a reason to come here either. Sure, it's not all that far from me, but around here, my default has always been the Safeway just down Cabrillo. However, after seeing a piece on this place on SFGATE about their "world famous turkey sandwich"? Well, let's just say that self-proclaimed title was enough to put them on my radar to check out! Now, while there's obviously a lot more to Arguello Market than just their aforementioned sandwich, it seems like a good number of folks who come here do so just for their sandwiches. Not that I blame them - the first time I came here, I headed straight for the deli counter without looking at much of anything else. Which just so happened to include their menu board, as I already knew what I was going to get before I even set foot inside. However, as I waited for my order, I actually found their offerings interesting enough to come back to try something else. In general, it's not particularly extensive, and their sandwiches are more classic in nature, but it was also pretty cool to see fresh rotisserie chicken as a sandwich option, as well as piroshkis and calzones available to be had.-- FRESH ROAST TURKEY SANDWICH with EVERYTHING (Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onion, Dijon Mustard, Mayo, and Pickles) with Swiss Cheese (+$1.50) on Dutch Crunch...$11.95(https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/arguello-super-market-san-francisco?select=l1EOVV_fC8A0sbkY9PiOUw)Thankfully, this wasn't too shabby! The sandwich as a whole felt light, but it actually had a good amount of turkey, which was surprisingly moist, save for a few pieces. That said, all together, the sandwich felt a little dry, as there wasn't much mayo or mustard (adding avocado might have helped).-- HOT PASTRAMI SANDWICH with EVERYTHING (Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onion, Dijon Mustard, Mayo, and Pickles) with Swiss Cheese (+$1.50) on Dutch Crunch...$12.95(https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/arguello-super-market-san-francisco?select=i4QHWj09V0JLvT2SiGzggA)Between the two, I thought this one was better. Partly just out of preference (I love pastrami), but also with how well everything complemented each other. Plus, this one didn't seem quite as dry and the bread seemed softer. As for the actual market portion of Arguello Market, their greatest appeal is probably the sheer convenience more than anything else. While they cover all of the basics you might be looking for, the range of their selections isn't super deep (limited cuts of meats, fewer varieties of brands, only your basic produce, etc.). What's more, their prices trend a bit high ($3 for a can of corn, for example) and parking isn't always the easiest. Given that, it's not so bad if you just need one thing and you're already here getting a sandwich or if you happen to live nearby. However, if you're looking to complete a longer shopping list, you just might be better off heading over to the likes of Lucky or Safeway. All in all, THREE AND A HALF STARS would be perfect, but I'm rounding down for now. The sandwiches are probably closer to four based purely on taste, and you certainly won't regret what you're eating, but when factoring in the price, it's hard to ignore the fact that I can get more of something that tastes just as good elsewhere.

All the HYPE is/are lies. Based on the hype I tried the turkey sandwich +$1.5 for cheese and +$ 1.75 for avocado, a RIP OFF. I mean $1.5 for a slice of cheese, yes one slice, think of that for a moment, and measly old avocado. What a disaster, the turkey was totally DRIED out and TASTLESS. Cheese was supposed to be provolone but got orange cheddar instead. By and large I ditto most of the 1 star ratings. This place is a GIANT rip off, AVOID this place like the plague, not a very friendly place, language issues! Got the, hey don't bother me I'm making a sadwich attitude. The display case is deep and chest high and imposeses a major barrier between you and the person making your sandwich, things I like to watch, and I'm 6 feet tall. I could have caught the cheese thing only if I could have watched. I'm certain Arguello pays the help CHEAP so they get cheap. You know you get what you pay for right! Bottom line YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, AVOID THIS PLACE, AVOID AVOID AVOID!

Yesterday we picked up sandwiches from Arguello Super Market. Luci had their famous Turkey sandwich and I chose to go with the hot pastrami. My Pastrami sandwich was great! The Dutch crunch bread was fresh, and the melted pepper jack just brought everything together. The crew behind the deli area were great! There are few tables outside for customers to sit and enjoy lunch. The area is not as crowded so it's great to stop by and grab a sandwich on way to presidio or beach for a picnic much like we did yesterday.

The best turkey sandwich in San Francisco, but the hot take is to order it with AVOCADO & CRANBERRY SAUCE. Yes, I said it. Trust it, try it, then get back to me on it This market also always has the absolute best service and staff, along with a wide variety of produce, pantry, and wine. Great for locals and tourists alike!

One of the hidden gems in San Francisco is Arguello Market. I miss it, now that I spend most of my time in Palm Springs. Go for the delicious sandwiches (order ahead, it's a busy place) and walk the market for premium cuts of meat, and all things upscale grocery. From the moment you walk in the door, where you'll get a greeting, to the ubiquitous line at the deli counter, this market screams home to me. The SF potato salad (a la Herman's) is delicious, the sandwiches are made to order and please be polite to the kind staff, who work diligently. It's a welcomed blast from the past of sweet corner markets, where you are known. Bravo!

I recently read about Arguello Super Market in the local paper, so decided to try their world famous turkey sandwich. The turkey sandwich is alright and really nothing world famous about it. The attitude is a bit rough from the sandwich dude tho. Cut me off to let me know that he can only work on one sandwich at a time when I wanted to order two. I get it, but it's the way he said it that bothered me. Very condescending. So guess what?! I just ordered one (to share with my hb) which is just fine since it wasn't that great anyway. The cashier guy was nicer and joked with me a bit to lighten the mood, so an extra star for him. Probably won't be back anytime soon or if I'm back; won't get their sandwiches.

A staple to the SF experience - I'm not a fan of sandwiches, but this is my FAVORITE place to order a sandwich. Great customer service every time and so close to an entrance to Golden Gate park. I hope they continue to stay around for years to come!
