My go to for an affordable cheap and easy omakase. The fish is always fresh and they give you really long pieces. Rice to sashimi ratio on point as well. As for the appetizers, I got the tofu and Edamame. They're what you expect, nothing special. Tofu had a sweet teriyaki sauce and was crispy. Now you might think I'm crazy for ordering the California roll with my omakase but I will say this is a very solid roll. It's very creamy and the rolls are thick so you are getting your value for sure. I know that they have several locations but I personally prefer this one only and I will be back. I think I've come enough where they remember my order now and the waiter is so kind. I usually get the server, Linda and she's amazing. The restaurant itself is quite small so if you're coming around peak dinner time, you might be expecting to wait a while (but it's worth the wait!).

Hurts me to make this review but I used to love Amami but felt it was a bit lacking today :(What my partner and I ordered:Soft shell crab ($10.50)Tonkatsu bento ($16)Omakase ($42)Melt in the mouth roll ($18)The 10 pc omakase, the fish isn't as fresh as it used to be. I know I'm eating fish but some felt a bit chewy/fishy than when it used to be very buttery that it melts in your mouth. The soft shell crab should've came out first but it came out last with the tonkatsu so it was cold to me.My bf liked the tonkatsu but I felt the portion was a bit small. Overall- it was lacking and customer service could've been better. I was constantly flagging the server to refill water and hot tea.

I know there are a bunch of Amami sushi's around the Bay Area (with photos of the same dishes especially the omakase), but correct me if I am wrong... I hear this is the OG and possibly the only eatery own by Chef Alan? No idea how true this statement is. This place is highly recommended by every Bay Area group chat I am in. And I cannot agree more. This place is LEGIT. I cannot give 5 stars because 1) lackluster service, 2) the location/minimal parking, and 3) some dishes are subpar and not authentic at all. FOOD:- the omakase for $42 is FREAKING AMAZING and FREAKING WORTH IT. The slices of fish are so THICK and so LONG. I wish there was a little bit more rice to make it 2:1 (2 fish to 1 rice instead of 3 fish to 1 rice; to make it more balanced and more palatable). I love, love, love the fresh wasabi. I will get this over and over again every time I visit. - negi toro roll. I personally love any negi rolls (I always try negihama rolls every chance I get at Japanese restaurants). I'm disappointed they didn't offer negihama rolls but only negi toro. I'm a very simple person and I love the simplicity. However, I wished someone would have told me that you do get the same toro in the omakase. - dinner combo: teriyaki beef and spicy tuna roll. I personally didn't try any of this but was told the beef portion was good and the spicy tuna roll comprised of super fresh cucumber with an awesome crunch. I loved, loved, loved the salad. The dressing wasn't too mayo-heavy and the iceberg lettuce was a fantastic touch. Very refreshing. - agedashi tofu: I appreciate how evenly and thinly each tofu piece was fried and to a superb crisp with every bite; however, the sauce was HELLA SWEET. Needs a bit more sour and savory aka more authenticity that you get in Japan. SERVICE:- PROPS for pouring tea without anyone having to beg for it - I remember coming to the same place years ago and they explained the omakase thoroughly of what each fish was and the proper order to eat them in. I don't know if they are over explaining things (at that time they were busy too and they always seem to be busy anyways), but I was sooo disappointed that no explanations were given. - THEY DO PROVIDE COMPLIMENTARY ICE CREAM, either red bean or matcha/green tea. I was again HIGHLY disappointed that other tables (and even one table was given the option of cheesecake!) were asked what dessert they wanted and we were not asked. I had to ask them. The waitress slapped our bill on the empty table next to us and didn't say "thank you" or anything. We were like whhhaaattt. Then, another waitress walked by and I politely asked "is it true that you give out ice cream? And is it true it is red bean or matcha?" and "may we please get some take out boxes?" But in the end, I am glad we received complimentary ice cream--thank you. AMBIENCE:- small, tightly cramped to the walls with black sitting (booths + chairs) and black tables... no tatami- Japanese decor- intimate, "romantically lit"PARKING:- very few spots in front of the restaurant, very jammed packed (I am rarely lucky but I ate my words tonight! There was a spot right when we turned into the very small lot. Never been more grateful and elated.)- free if in the lot- parallel parking around the plaza (I think some places are metered parking and some are without meters...I went both times in the dark and was lucky to find a spot somewhere in their lot both times.)- FYI: the lot is one way and when you exit, it is RIGHT TURN ONLY. You will drive folks behind you nuts. Will I return? HECK YEAH. However, I will likely try other Amami's out of curiosity and for the thrill of it. I definitely want to try their edamame, tempura, and of course will continue to order their omakase :)

This review will be short and sweet. The food was just OK, nothing memorable. Their service was non existent. We won't be returning.

I love coming here for their omakase set, since it's an affordable omakase set with fresh pieces of nigri. Their nigri are long pieces, which makes the omakae set even better! It includes fresh wasabi, which is such a game changer when eating sushi. I also enjoyed their chicken karage; it was crispy and delicious! Service is fairly quick and they fill up our tea cups often when they notice our cups are empty. 10/10 recommend coming here for delicious sushi!

I've been here a couple of times and it's often busy so try to go early if you can. It's also best to carpool since there's limited parking. The first time I went I ordered the omakase and the fish tasted fresh. For the second visit, I ordered the Amami Special Roll - unagi, crab, and cucumber inside, topped with avocado that was perfectly ripe. We also had the salmon teriyaki and asked for it not to be well done and it was cooked to our liking. This came with a salad that had a good amount of dressing and lukewarm miso soup. The food came quickly but the service was mediocre. Although the servers checked on us, they didn't offer to refill our water. The tables were too crammed and close to each other that neighboring tables could hear our conversations and vice versa, and we barely had any personal space. The food quality seems the same as other locations so you can't go wrong going to any of them.

All my coworkers say this is the best sushi in town and I think they're right! I most recently had the lunch sushi regular and the fish pieces were massive and fresh. Rice was cooked perfectly. We got fresh wasabi on that plate in addition to the shared ginger and wasabi paste for the table. We didn't have to make a reservation for our party of 10 on a Wednesday afternoon, but still got seated right away. We enjoyed the complimentary tea and radio music playing top hits. The lunch meals start off with the salad and then the miso soup. For some reason, the sushi regulars always come last compared to the other lunch options. I've also had their tempura udon which is yummy as well. I heard for dinner, they also give complimentary ice cream. Great service and great food plus parking is plentiful on El Camino.

Tried the other Amami Sushi in my neighborhood last Sunday night. I never tried it because the parking availability is always not great. However, we celebrated a buddy's belated birthday so I had my first opportunity. It was very good. The joint was packed for a Sunday evening and we were lucky to snag the last four-top. I'll be brief, this place was great. The sushi there was just as good as the other Amami. This guy ordered the Dragon Roll and the Tiger Roll. Wonderful. I tried to eat them as slowly as possible instead of gobbling them down like I had just returned from Survivor Island. It was not easy. Our buddy also enjoyed his bday dish and cleaned his plate like a champ. And our other friends also ate like there was no tomorrow.Service was very good and they never let us be forgotten, even this it was a packed house. To sum up: an excellent place for Japanese in my town. To quote the T-800; Ill be back.Check the pics.

Out of all the Amami locations, this one is arguably the best. Amami has built a reputation for its affordable omakase, and as a serious sushi enthusiast, I can confidently say their offerings are impressive. The omakase set provides a balance of freshness and variety, making it a great value for the price. I've also sampled a few of their specialty rolls, which were equally well-crafted and satisfying. This location tends to get pretty busy, especially during dinner hours, so I highly recommend making a reservation. On one occasion, I waited nearly an hour to be seated, which speaks to its popularity but also the potential wait time.Parking here can be a bit challenging and is often a matter of luck. There are a few designated parking spots outside, or you might be able to find some street parking if you're willing to circle around a bit. Despite the occasional wait and parking challenges, this Amami location remains a top choice for sushi at a reasonable price.
