Put on your favorite cosplay custom and buy a Caltrain ticket! After you get a bento box here, you can enjoy the great food while riding the Shinkansen (Caltrain, actually) from San Francisco to Kyoto (ok, not really, but imagine San Jose somehow transformed into a city in Japan).Omakase was fantastic! The sake don (salmon two ways) was great too.Tip: go on a Tuesday, around 12:30pm, to avoid the lines.

I've walked past here and been curious so many times over the last few months, but I didn't realize it was a take-out sushi spot. Today I walked by and saw the outdoor signage on the sidewalk that said just that, Take-out Sushi. I immediately turned in and changed my personal dinner plans of cooking at home. At the hour I went in, 3 pm on a Wednesday, the case wasn't super full, but every single box was beautiful and tempting. The staff of one (out in the open) was very helpful and descriptive in answering my questions since I was so torn. I ended up getting the largest omakase box that was also the most expensive, but oh so worth it at $54 (he was also a great salesman and didn't pressure me). Let me tell you, every single piece in my box was divine- super fresh and dressed beautifully. The accoutrements were all so great, too (I didn't even know what everything was and still ate it:)I shamelessly finished the entire box all by my self in record time. I'll most definitely be back and hopefully I can avoid the long lines again. If you get the chance, you must give this spot a try!

Aji Kiji has been on my list to try for so long, but it's so hard to find a time to come before they sell out! This is a takeout sushi spot that offers incredibly high-quality fish for prices that are honestly fair for what you're getting--I think their hype is definitely well deserved. I got the 6pc Maguro + Maki set, and I loved everything I ate. The tuna tasted super fresh, and I loved how flavorful the rice was. I also adore the presentation; everything is so beautifully and thoughtfully done. The biggest struggle was waiting for the fish to get to room temperature before eating since I wanted to eat it up immediately. The shop itself is quite small but very clean and organized. I had previously tried to come on the weekends but was faced with super long lines (or them being sold out already). However, when I came on a Wednesday around noon, there were only a few people in front of me. If you get the chance, check this place out!

Fantastic takeout sushi that really is as good as advertised. While it's not omakase (this is a bento box, but for sushi), the quality of the fish is as close as you'll get to a sit-down omakase experience for the price you're paying. Ten pieces of nigiri and a small handroll (for me, tuna) sets you back about $50; even cheap omakase spots will end up costing dramatically more. This is a great way of introducing sushi that isn't relying on Whole Foods (or god forbid, Safeway). And unlike Japanese specialty markets (that also have sushi bentos), these are clearly fresh. The shop itself is tiny, very clean, with a great display of all that's available. Service is super quick (on a Tuesday morning); I suspect weekends are much busier.

Came at 11:40 and the line wrapped around the block but the wait was absolutely worth it! The line moved super fast (we only waited about 20 min) since the spot is takeout only. We got the sushi 6pc + maki box (about $30 after tax) and it was the perfect portion for two people for a light lunch! The fish was super fresh and the rice was seasoned well with a subtle wasabi flavor. The maki rolls were also delicious as well (surprisingly the avocado one was one of my favorites). Would definitely recommend checking out!! 100% worth the hype. Packaging was very nice and minimalist; loved the wooden box and soy sauce fish. The workers inside were very nice and friendly too.

I've been here twice, once for their omakase bento where you just line up and get a box inside and the second time, I pre-ordered their new years omakase bento for 2 people. Overall the fish is good and fresh. They put a lot of detail into their bentos. I would say some pieces are better than others, like their salmon and tuna but everything else it is just sashimi but I don't think it's amazing.I docked off one star because they really need to work on the front of their restaurant in terms of organization. I preordered the new years bento and put pick up for 12pm. I understand things can get busy and they're packaging orders as they come but if you're asking a customer to set a pick up time, I think it's reasonable to think you'll get your preorder within 30'minutes of the set pick up time. When I went to pick up my bento, they told me they're running late and would be another 20-30 minutes which was fine. I ended up waiting about 1hr and 15 minutes...Of course after waiting so long past the agreed pick up time, I was just excited to eat. The set had variations of food and came with miso soup. If you look at the photo of the miso soup, that's literally all they gave. It was like two spoon fulls of soup and that's it. The bento was good, the part with the crab and asparagus was honestly a little bland but all the sashimi's were good

Absolutely delicious! The line moves pretty quickly and I went early on a weekend so I was able to snag the Chirashi box. A few minutes before opening they handed out hot tea while waiting in the chilly weather which was so sweet. Very friendly, I was able to have all my answers addressed and overall a wonderful experience. The interior is super calm and minimal and truly felt like I was in an omakase restaurant. The chirashi box was delicious and even as one of the smaller boxes it's quite filling. Every bit of it looked meticulously placed, fish was super fresh and loved the addition of all the greens. There was not a part of the box I didn't like. There is no seating so I (and many others) went to the Japan town mall nearby got some matcha and enjoyed the sushi. Will be coming back soon!

This place is amazing! I love the fresh quality omakase! I went on a Friday afternoon and surprisingly there was no line! It's a small shop that was very clean. There was a lot to pick from! I remember my total being around $120. I love the fresh seafood and the pickled cucumbers. I would definitely come back to try their other boxes!

Really really good. Stopped by on a Sunday for lunch, and there was literally 0 line. Immediately got to choose which set we wanted, did so, and were told to wait 30 minutes before eating so the fish could come to room temp. There's very little seating inside, very clearly meant to be a takeout place. We got a chirashi and a handroll set. The fish quality was fantastic, super fresh, tender and clearly handled with skill. The fish in the handroll set doesn't come seasoned, but they give some light soy sauce to flavor the rolls with. Seaweed comes on the side, but there's not much, so definitely pack your handrolls full. The rice is also amazing, probably one of the best parts. Really chewy and tender, flavored just right. The chirashi was also really good. Get this if you want a broader range of fish. Price is on the steeper side for a lunch, but they don't skimp on the serving size at all. Definitely give this place a try if you want a nicer, sushi lunch!

For $30, the handroll set is very well priced. It's very fresh, the scallops absolutely melted in my mouth. It's perfect if you are on the go, live nearby, or walk over to eat it at Japantown. It's great fish without the price of extra tips for sit down sashimi. The rice has some soy sauce flavor in itself, and the addition of a hint of wasabi was a great addition. Perfect as an appetizer/finger food type serving if shared between two people.
