*Check OpenTable for recent reviews--most of the Yelp reviews are old reviews, and this place was revamped post-covid.*There are so many places in San Francisco to spend too much money for okay food. This is not that. This is a thoughtful omakase menu by a wonderful chef who has poured her soul and history into each dish. A mix of uniqueness, fantastic taste, and love. We felt so privileged to get to experience this--on our list, it will be one of those few places that we discovered before everyone else did. We will be back, and will be telling our friends! If you want to feel sneaky, like you found something *really* special, then check this place out.

Meh. Food isn't bad, but isn't going to make you super happy, either. Guess I'm not really surprised we were the only ones there for about 30 minutes. They also add a 25.5% combined service charge.

The restaurant was hard to find, (no sign) and i thought the food was mostly a steak house due to the old food pics from what was the previous restaurant. The service was ok and it was nice ambiance. The menu was limited and the items were on the expensive side. Do your research before going there.

Not at all what I expected! Tapas style food servings. My wife and I had dinner reservations in the beginning of September. When we arrived and until we finished we were the only diners. Food wasn't particularly outstanding it was like average bar food at best. Server was friendly & manager was friendly. According to manager the 5A5 Izakaya is just a pop-up at that location because their main location (on Jackson St) is still closed due to building or remodeling issues. No longer the 5A5 Steakhouse from before...sadly my wife and I found this to be a very underwhelming dining experience. However, they did honor a 5A5 Steakhouse gift card we had from before they closed down (because of the pandemic) hence the overall 3 star rating. Food selection is pretty expensive for what you get and that's not including booze. That was our experience but they've only recently reopened so we'll see if they can get back to the 5A5 Steakhouse days...

We were planing to visit this place because we had a great time at the 5A5 steakhouse that we have visited before covid. My husband thought it's the same place as the steakhouse when he booked through open table. But it ends up it's a total different place other than steakhouse. They have a very small selection of Asian fusion food. We ordered the beef noodle soup ($30) and a dumpling ($23) literally just one dumpling. With the 10.8% of tax and 25% of sf mandate service fee. AND still need to add 20~25% tips. Very pricy to me. I think the name 5A5 should better off keep it as a steakhouse. I miss the old times.

This was so weird...we walked in (after knocking and they let us in) and there was no one else there. Literally no one except for one visible person in the kitchen, the host, and a waiter that never came back. We left after sitting for almost 15 mins. They were also out of wine?

Food, service, ambience were top shelf. Each course that came to the table was even more delicious than the previous dish. What a delight to experience all the flavors and how creative on the part of the chef. We truly enjoyed everything about this restaurant and would highly, highly recommend going to 5A5 for a truly unique culinary experience. Btw I've written a review for this place 2x before and for some reason it doesn't get saved. Hopefully this review will be posted.
