Hell, I remember when this legendary bear spot was 'Daddy's'. That was back in the '90's when I was in the twilight of my cruising marketability. I don't think I was on a daddy hunt, in particular, but in hindsight, I would've been open to having a drink with someone who had a deep baritone, equally deep pockets, and gray in his temples. The reality was that I was a cheap date, and this was the watering hole to be cheap.Flash forward a few eons and here I was again still being cheap. Only I was definitely not on a daddy hunt. Who's your Daddy now? Or maybe more accurately, Grandpapa. In fact, some middle-aged twink out on the sidewalk called me Mr. Miyagi. But hey, I come here for the friendly, seasoned bartenders and the cheap drinks. Gordy, why don't you hire more friendly doormen. The last time and the time before I visited, both doormen were rude and unfriendly. You can do better. Bartenders were great!

Bar had old school music. The dancers were a pleasure to watch. The drinks were ok. And the bathroom I couldn't see what I was doing in there. It was so dark. Door guy was very nice and friendly.

This is the best gay dive bar in San Francisco. The crowd skews older but it's always fun. Good music, cheap drinks. Mondays are underwear nights - very fun and a different kind of vibe than Powerhouse offers. A lot more low key and approachable!

Not recommended for people of color I got served by some new bartenders I never seen before I was waiting for a beer for 15 minutes and got served before by a white couple before I was served with my card in my hand!! Just bs I can't believe I made my request known and was ignored!!!I went to midnight sun

Been here a few times prior when visiting and I really like this place out of the other two I frequented during this trip (The Mix & Midnight Sun). As a matter of fact, we returned here as our last stop of the evening as the prices were unbeatable compared to the other two that I mentioned above as well the cocktails tasting much better (alcohol to base ratio). Our bartender (didn't get his name) was top notch and welcomed us back in after we told him about not liking the other two places.

Instead of heading home (which we should have!) we wound up here at 440.It turned out to be a real fun night. They have Guinness on tap! The bartenders were fantastic. I'm sure they've seen it all yet they remained friendly and brotherly. There was some great throwback music thumping tonight. When was the last time anybody heard "Let's All Chant" at a bar?The vibe is comfortable and it was pretty much packed on a Sunday night.I think I remember a lot of bears?

Another of my day off errands (I swear Cliffs Variety has everything I could possibly need) bar to stop by for a drink. Diverse clientele, sweetheart staff including Shane, Heath, Spencer & Tyler.Oh, and their decorations for every holiday are always over-the-top.

Best music in the Castro. Prompt, professional and courteous staff. May smell of piss, perfume or poppers depending on the evening.
