Completely outstanding in nearly every respect.I had the uni crème brule, focaccia with french onion butter, lobster risotto, pici, black truffle ravioli, pork chop and a dumpling. The pastas are all superb. I couldn't pick a favourite. The uni was a remarkable dish. Right on the edge of being too elaborate but so delicious.French onion butter was a lovely clever thing. Really delicious.Pork chop is a pork chop -- it's as good as any other I've had but it's not a wide dynamic range.A nice old school piece of cake for dessert.Kitchen a shade slow here and there but the food was out of this world. I was surprised they had a walk-in spot for us. Will be back.

We came to 3rd Cousin for Valentine's Day dinner and were very excited to try their menu. Unfortunately, the food and dining experience were disappointing. The one dish I loved was the uni creme brûlée. Sadly it went downhill from there. Nothing was bad, but the flavors for the majority of the dishes felt muted and not as nuanced as described. Additionally the cook on some of the food was off. For example, the risotto was noticeably under cooked. We sat at the counter, and had the pleasure of watching the kitchen at work which was fun for the most part. Unfortunately, we overheard some arguing amongst the servers and food runners. I get it, because it was quite busy, but it was a bit unpleasant. Service was decent enough.Overall, I don't think the food and service were worth the high price tag.

3rd cousin has such a special charm! The ambiance, experience, creativity, service... everything about this spot has made this meal so memorable. Definitely in my top three restaurants of all time here in the SF Bay Area, and I can't wait to come back. We came by for a birthday celebration and opted for the five course menu ($89pp) along with the wine pairing ($55pp). Loved the variety of flavors as we ate our way through each course. A couple wow factors: the smokey dashi broth for the crispy black cod dish, refreshing sharpness of the thai basil in the campenelle, and the rich hojicha fragrance in the perfectly textured panna cotta. The uni brûlée is also a must ($38 supplement). One thing that stood out to me was how friendly and warm 3rd cousin felt. We were warmly greeted by the chef and owner as soon as we walked in, and the service throughout the meal was top tier. For example, as we finished the toasted bread slices for the uni brûlée, two separate servers came up to us immediately to ask if we'd like some more, free of charge too. For a restaurant of this caliber, it's hard to stay warm and cozy without the feeling of being pretentious, however 3rd cousin truly makes you feel like family the moment you walk in the door. Highly recommend!

Came here with a reservation through tock for sf restaurant week this year. For the appetizer, entree, and dessert you had a couple options to choose from. There was the option to purchase add-ons and if I am back again I would try the uni creme brûlée. I opted for the tuna crudo for the first round which was served with a yuzu filling type paste under the fish and it was amazing!! I chose the fish entree and nothing was special about it, but it was cooked well. The dessert was just right though to cap off the meal, it was a panna cotta that was the perfect amount of sweetness. I think all the dishes were topped with an edible flower of some sort. We ordered their only bottle of orange wine for the table and it paired nicely with everything. They did have a specific wine tasting available as an add on. The service was attentive! We sat outside in their parklet and got blankets and heaters around us. The ambiance inside did look better though and matched the sophistication of the restaurant menu.

Friendly upon seating. Good menu. Affordable prices. The best dish was the steak. Everything else was pretty average :) Thanks!

I've bookmarked 3rd cousin for a while and finally was able to get around to try it out. Overall experience was great. The chef was super warm and welcoming, just like your 3rd cousin! From the outside, the restaurant looks very unassuming. The interior is beautiful, and it was busy the night we went. I tried the famous Uni crème brûlée since I LOVE Uni, but unfortunately it didn't blow my mind. It was unique, and tasted fine, maybe it was too hyped from all the reviews. We ordered the extra white truffle risotto since it was the truffle season. The dish was good also. Their steak was really good though. I'd go back just for the steak.Service was top notch. Chef Greg came out and greeted everyone and even served people, which is rare to see. I think his passion for food definitely comes through his interactions with the customers. Overall, a good dinner experience. I'd say definitely check it out if you haven't.

The restaurant was full we had a 7 pm reservation. Apparently they have outside seating. A lot of the times the serves would go outside but the front door was always left open. I was extremely cold and uncomfortable. I didn't care for the service. The food was just OK. They were too many servers all super different with different personalities not professional. I felt rushed and the food was just mediocre for this price that we paid. It could've been much better on top of all that they had San Francisco 7 percent and , 20% tip like I didn't feel that I wanted to tip 20% for the service that I got, but it was already included would not recommend and would never go back. They handed us the bill. They didn't even ask if we wanted tea or coffee super rushed and I don't understand what the hype is all about totally unhappy with the service the ambience and all of the Friday night. I could've picked an extremely amazing spot in San Francisco. !!!

Greatly appreciate the owner for reaching out and personally apologizing to his customer for a misunderstanding over the phone. This establishment has great potential. Food consists of quality ingredients and is well prepared. The lobster risotto and filet mignon were cooked to perfection. A few dishes were a let down, especially the uni crème brûlée. I am the biggest fan of all the components on its own, but when combined, it was too rich. The sweetness from the sugar layer took away from the savory, umami flavors of the uni and caviar. Regardless, I am happy to have checked off dining at 3rd Cousin as I have had this place bookmarked for over a year now! Service is great-- very attentive staff and thoroughly explained the menu to me when I had questions.

I had a tough time choosing a restaurant to take my sister for her birthday given she has a gluten sensitivity. I read that the kitchen here does an excellent job with allergies, so I thought it was worth a shot to try their tasting menu given all of the praise this place has. I'm definitely glad I chose this spot! The service here is top notch. When we walked in, they already had a birthday card ready on the table for her. Nearly all of the staff came by throughout the dinner and warmly wished her a happy birthday. They even ended the night with gifting her a bag full of chocolates to take home as a birthday gift too.But we came here for the food and that was a hit. I still think about their uni creme brûlée a month later and both of us thought it was their best dish by far (maybe one of our favorite dishes of the year). It's a quaint restaurant with delicious food/wine and amazing service. Parking is also easy to find on a weekday night!

This could be my favorite overall restaurant/experience. Ever. Let's first talk about the food. Incredible. Fresh. Dynamic. Balanced. Every bite from the soup to the steak to the dessert had elements of crunch, acid, softness, umami. I enjoyed the 5 course tasting menu + focaccia. I couldn't recommend it enough! It came with a pallet opener, crispy clams with tartar, tomato soup, choice of pasta, choice of protein, and choice of dessert. Now let's talk about the service...I left a note about my dietary restrictions on my reservation. I've done this at other restaurants, but this was the first time I had a server recite back and both confirm she's aware AND the kitchen knows. WOW. Bravo to my server, Marian! Every course was perfectly timed after the one before was finished, being served at the perfect temperature every time. Plates and flatware were replenished after every dish and my water was always filled. The chef came out multiple times to each table introducing himself. What an amazing experience!!The space is a bit small so I suggest making a reservation. If you're local to SF I *highly* recommend trying... or if you're in town visiting it's the perfect stop right before hitting the airport.
